My 7 year old son loved it!

My son loves Legos and we thought this would be a great way for him to count down the days until Christmas by opening a new Legos surprise each day.
Jason
He loves Legos anyway and getting 2 open 1 every morning was a highlight of his day.

For the past couple of years every holiday season we have picked up a couple of these calendars for family and friends. All the kids enjoy the countdown to Christmas by opening up a toy every day starting the 1st of December. The tough part is trying to hold the kids back from opening up the rest of the gifts in advance. We try to save one calendar every year for our own lego collection too. Caveat: For those on the fence we recommend getting these early because the prices increase significantly around the beginning of December.

My grandsons have gotten this calendar every year for at least 7 years. It has always been a big hit and they can't wait until the first day of December to begin. The activity is usually done just before bedtime and they have even asked to go to bed early just to get to assemble that days activity. Because of there being 2 boys, one day one boy builds and the other gets to place it on the display, and the next day it is reversed, so they both get a turn.
Well this year, because of the economy Mom had decided that the money could be used better somewhere else and discussed this with the boys. The oldest son decided he would make up an advent calendar so his little brother would still have an advent calendar. Well when I heard this, it pulled at my heartstrings and I ordered it, gave it to my daughter, and she kept it until the first day of December and just before bed they got the advent calendar, you would have thought it was Christmas morning. Such delight.

You never know what one thing will always be important to a child. This one is. They told their mom when they get to be partents they are going to get this for their children. Sob, sob.

This is the best Advent calendar ever! We can't wait to give it to my 7 year old grandson and watch him build day by day. He will be so excited to have something new to build each day.

My son loves Lego so I thought a great Birthday present for him would be an advent calendar. After looking at the calendar available this year, I was disappointed in that it didn't have as much Christmas themed Legos and seemed to focus solely on cops and robbers. I started looking for the one I had seen in stores last year and loved. Amazon marketplace to the rescue! I found one, and it wasn't that much more than this year's. My son loves it! The Christmas themed daily builds have been greatly received and somewhat reinforce the whole point of an Advent calendar.
This set includes:
*snowman Lego
*Dad minifig
*Mom minifig
*girl minifig
*boy minifig
*white cat (too cute!)
*brown dog
*Santa train
*tree
*toys
*sled
*fire truck
*firewood & axe
*few others I can't recall at the moment =D

Have gotten these advent calendars for over 10 years. Each year they get less and less interesting. Maybe due to the fact that my boys are getting older, but I think that it has more to do with Lego getting less imaginitive. They put in too many "people" which requires little to no connecting of pieces. The items that you do get to build are too simple and involve 3, 4, or 5 little legos.

My son was disappointed with this year's edition. Actually, one item was duplicated in the set and one item was missing, but since we were already well into December, it was too late to replace.

I bought a calendar for each of my younger grandsons this year (4 and 7 years old), remembering the fun my oldest grandson had with it years ago. My grandsons love legos. The 7 year old can put together the most complicated scenes and shapes so the shapes in this calendar were extremely simple for him. I also agree with another reviewer that there were too many people and not enough shapes to construct. In spite of this, both boys apparently lived in great anticipation each day to open each door. (However, the doors were difficult to open for the youngest.)

Even though I have encouraged both families to save the calendar for next year, I may have to buy a new one for each of them, now that I know that the legos change. One of my grandsons excitedly showed me his calendar scene when I visited - so I know it was very special for him. And, I heard from my kids that opening the calendar door is a great incentive for the grandkids to be finished with homework, bath, and chores in the December evenings.

Bought this for my 5 year old who just discovered Legos and it was an instant hit. He's so excited to come home from school every day and open up a new window. This is much better than the traditional Advent calendar with candy because it's something we can do together and lasts more than 30 seconds. It will be a tradition in our family as long as Lego continues to make these.
