Product Description

This is the most awesome ship in the Star Wars universe. The Imperial Star Destroyer is the massively huge, incredibly powerful heart of the Emperor's fleet. Manned by the top crew in the Imperial Navy, the Star Destroyer was heavily armored and bristling with turbo lasers and tractor beam projectors. One Star Destroyer alone was enough to strike fear into an entire star system. Now you can add the Imperial Navy's best-known and most powerful ship to your LEGO Star Wars collection. Measuring an impressive 37" by 23", this model dwarfs any LEGO Star Wars ship ever produced. This beautifully designed and one-of-a-kind collector's item comes with a special display stand and collectors card. Also includes an exclusive Rebel Blockade Runner Mini-Model, so you can recreate the opening scenes of Star Wars IV: A New Hope.

Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The Lego Imperial Star Destroyer is one of the nicest Lego sets out due to its sheer size, over 3,000 piece count, and just because its one of the most elegant looking designs in the Star Wars universe. Overall construction time for this set is about 12-16 hours (not factoring in breaks and whatnot) and a good sturdy work area is recommended (I used a card table to build mine on)-I would NOT build this set on the bed or floor due to later stability issues that will arise. Please note that if you are planning to display this set that an eventual droop will occur (or may not, but I have seen where its occurring more than its not occurring) in the ship due to the weight of the ship being on two support structures. There are numerous fixes for this that could be found online using internet search engines, from simple fixes like using pennies to more complex modifications including additional Lego pieces. Great kit, and recommended for the serious Lego Star Wars fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Biggest and nicest Lego model ever October 22, 2005
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
At the time this model came out, it has been the largest set with 3104 bricks. It took me several days (12 - 16 hours) to assemble it. The model is very impressive do to its size of almost 1 meter (about 37 inches). Even though in the meantime Lego released the Death Star (model #10143) with more 3449 bricks, this is still the biggest one (size wise) around. Definitely a must-have for Lego/Star Wars fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great kit...but! January 7, 2007
My 12 year old son and I are just finishing this up. First and foremost, the magnets and part attachments that hold the two bottom panels will NOT keep them on. We used a hot glue gun that easily solved the problem, but it was intially very frustrating. Surprising that LEGO would have such a flawed design at this price. Recommend that two people work on this together and lay out the parts by type and size before beginning construction (we used clear baggies). Typical great LEGO instructions with a HUGE manual. Overall, an amazing kit with a design flaw. This thing is BIG!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Build August 25, 2009
Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Lego Star Destroyer is a great build. Make sure you have plenty of room and time to complete it. It took me 4 hours just to seperate the pieces into piles, and approx. another 25-30 to complete the build. This is a model, not a toy. It isn't meant to be played with or moved around much after assembly. The magnets hold the lower plates on just fine as long as you don't try to pick it up by anything other than the stand. I built it in our lower level family room and it is now displayed in our master bedroom. And yes, I did do the sound effects when I "flew" it from point A to point B.

4.0 out of 5 stars Son LOVES this, and is proving a great challenge for him! November 22, 2008

Can't really review the product itself, but wanted to let buyers know this EXACT model is available from Lego directly for $199 with free shipping. Even Lego's normal price is $50 less than Amazon's. Just wanted to let anyone know... oh, note that this info is as of 11/22/2008.

The star ratings are required to post, so I'm basing the ratings on past Lego experiences.

Once my son gets this next month for Christmas, I'll let you know how WE did with the assembly (yes, we do these big sets together! That's half the fun!)

Update 1/5/2009

It would appear that lego.com no longer has this item available, at least as of this update review, which is probably why the Amazon price has again jumped. Sorry.

As far as the product itself, a FANTASTIC Lego challenge for me and my son. He's learning patience as he prepares his work environment (as a good building environment is required for this large model), and that completion of a large project in one day is not required. We are very excited to enjoy this project together.

Another update once completed.

4.0 out of 5 stars What an AWESOME Build April 19, 2013
By AustinP
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This LEGO set is unlike any other. Its the King of all sets, the final piece to a LEGO set designers collection. Its a difficult and time consuming build, but it can be done easily if you are patient. I built this set in about a month and a half. I went to move it to where I was going to display it and hit a wall and it shattered. DURABILITY is a worry, it's held up by magnets in many places and they are just hard to trust. I rebuilt the model and stored it up on a shelf. There it stayed for a long time before the shelf was bumped and this great weight fell off the top shattering the set again. I guess it wasn't meant to be. That being said, if you have the money to spare, PLEASE get this set. It is so much fun to build (so much fun I built it twice, and I would never do that for another set) and the sense of pride you feel after you finish is hard to match. AWESOME SET!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lego Star Destroyer November 15, 2007
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
A must for this model is a very large table to lay everything out, an eye for counting and about 20 hours. Apart from that I enjoyed myself immensely and I have to say the model is awesome the more you look the more you appreciate the detail. I had no trouble with the magnets and I think the model is very sturdy and well designed. Its interesting when you build the different sections you wonder why certain things are buitl that way but when it all slots together it is a very clever piece of design. I am now looking out for the next one to build.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice set, and the magnets DO hold the set together February 5, 2013
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a great set. I have it myself, and the person who said the magnets will not keep the set together is just totally wrong about that. It can be a little tricky. It is the only Lego set I have ever seen that uses magnets to keep some of the set together, so it is a different way of constructing a lego set, but it does work if you follow the instructions and you also have to make sure you are not trying to attach the positive side of the magnet to the positive side of another magnet or the negative side to a negative side.

This is simple physics, and you can just turn the magnets around if you find you are accidently are trying to attach matching sides that repel instead of attract each other.

This set was made with two different grays. When if first came out, it was made with the old gray. Later on, Lego made the remaining sets with the bluish gray. Peeron () has a piece list for this set showing the pieces for the old gray set, but if you buy one of these sets and find that your gray bricks are just a slightly different gray, don't worry, it's not a blunder on the sellers part. It's more of a blunder on Peeron's part for not listing the piece list for both sets or may you could say it's Lego's fault for not being consistant with the color scheme for one Lego set.

Anyway, the magnets are not a problem as one reviewer would have you believe, and overall, it's a nice set, and pretty impressive. I thought the Super Star Destroyer set would be even more impressive, but it has almost exactly the same number of pieces ( you would except it to have more, since it is a SUPER Star Destroy, and since it did also cost about $100.
