I agree with the other reviewers. I am a long time LEGO fan and somewhat serious collector. I have been buying LEGO Advent calendars for my kids since 2005. Every year they seem to get a little stranger and more expensive. The advent calendar really is a $20 set as another reviewer suggested.

My main gripes come from two different areas. 1) They spoil the surprise by showing every model on the outside of the box. Good for parents, I suppose, but horrible for kids. 2) The theme for the past 2 years has been very strange. Last year it was a cops and robbers theme... for Christmas! Three of the days didn't even contain a complete model, they just had sections of a jail house. It was pretty lame. This year they focus on fire fighters. Why? What do fire fighters have to do with Christmas?

I love the idea of opening a tiny LEGO set every day, but I can't stand the theme and I can't stomach the price.

Seriously, isn't the fun of it, the surprise?! You put photos of it all on the box. It ruins it. I have to figure out how to permanently wrap the thing so my kids' advent surprises aren't spoiled. If you want the parents to see, make some kind of wrapper we can take off.

I have purchased a few of these these every year, because the kids love them, but honestly, it is a $20 item, not worth near $40. I tried to open the wallet this year, but I had the same feeling when I watched the Grinch steal the last can of Who-Hash. Every year the price keeps climbing. We are starting new holiday traditions this year, beginning with a Lego boycott. Shame on greedy Lego!.

I have purchased two lego advent calendars every year for my two sons except last year, and I won't be purchasing them this year. When I started buying them when my kids were younger, they were 19.99, and sometimes you could find them on sale for 14.99!! I think they are very overpriced, even for lego. I think when they became so popular, lego bumped up the price because they knew people would still buy them. That is sad. Anyway, we are moving on to other things.

I actually called "Lego" about the Advent Calenders. The person I spoke with said they were focusing on our "Heroes" while still trying to make it fun.(I HOPE that is the REAL truth) THAT finally made some sense to me. I still don't understand the Cops & Robbers as I think there could have been many more "positive" images portrayed. The Fireman theme could be a good one. I did NOT purchase this through Amazon.
I was really irritated at the price this year then, my very wise other half reminded me, we purchased last year's LATER in the season when it was on SALE. I was also reminded how the news has been saying the cost of EVERYTHING would be much higher this year.
I like the fact EVERYTHING is ON THE BOX so I know exactly what is in the set. We resolved the issue by taking it OUT of the box, at home, used brown paper bags for the items, and the kids had NO IDEA until we wanted them to.
In closing, I LOVE Lego's, and I have since I was a kid. The prices are a bit high BUT I HOPE it will go down as the season goes on and there is more competition. Finally... WE all have fun with the calendar! IF they are REALLY featuring our "HEROES" then I, for one, am ALL for it!

What's not to love? My boys can't wait to open each of these small projects every day! This is our second year, and even tho I've wondered if the themes couldn't be a little more festive than cops 'n robbers, I plan on getting these for years to come. We enjoy the unique pieces as additions to our collection. This year I'm going to take them out of the cardboard box and put them in a permanent wooden Advent calendar I have that matches my decor. So much better than candy or cheap little toys! As for the climbing price, I find that interesting but have two thoughts: 1) Lego company provides me with free Lego Club magazines and a free high-quality weekly animated TV show; I don't think the price for this toy is outrageous; and 2) I've tried to find decent advent stuffing toys for my calendar that are a little better than birthday party favors, and that easily adds up to as much or more than the price of this product. Highly recommended.

My two boys love getting this every year, trying to make it a little tradition instead of candy, and they love them. I gave it four stars though because every year the price goes up and up. My kids (9 and 6) love trying to guess which item they will get every morning.
