They both had fun putting it together.

I like that you can build all three different models of the car shown in the movies, and that it came with Marty's skateboard.

In conclusion, if you know someone who is a fan of both Legos and the Back to the Future movies I highly recommend this set.

People are complaining the date set for the past is wrong. The brick says 1958. In the movie they travel to 1955. This is not a mistake, but a inside joke for Lego. 1958 was the year the first Lego brick was produced.

Imagine how excited to finally own my own time machine. I liked the idea that I could build my new time machine at home without the hassle of having to lease a workspace. When the time machine pieces arrived, they were much smaller than I expected, but, I still kept the faith. I turned on the 1985 time travel documentary, upon which this kit was based, and proceeded to build my time machine.

The instructions were very easy to follow. But, I found it very difficult to fit inside the time machine. Also, there is not a working flux capacitor- a let down for sure, as now I do not know what to do with this plutonium that I bought off some libyan guy in a mall parking lot.

If you are expecting to travel in time with this kit, you won't be let down. Upon completion I was transported back to my childhood with Doc and Marty.

I bought this set for myself- it was fun to remember the BTTF movies. You have three design options representing the DeLorean from each of the movies- getting a little more complicated looking for each successive sequel. For instance the "Mr Fusion" was Introduced in BTTF2 and redish/orange wheels and engine modifications for BTTF3.

Don't let the picture on the front of the box fool you, the tires can put moved into regular position if you want them for all 3 models.

There are not unique build instructions for each of the three. The instructions all have you build the original BTTF1 model and then if you wish to customize to BTTF2 or BTTF3 there are additional steps.

My main issue with this set is it is one of the least stable/weaker Lego sets I have come across. The pieces that make the rim of the windshield don't even click into anything on top, they just lay there. Other pieces are prone to fall off on anything buy light playing, and this is a set you want to "play" around with a bit.

Then there is the fact this simply doesn't look all that great- Lego seems to be able to capture so many things into true-to-life looking vehicles and structures the fact this has no real windows, it's a bit disappointing. They wouldn't be able to get away with this if they were intending to design a real DeLorean Lego model- that would need to be built off a completely different base.

Then of course there is the price- although not as bad as some Lego sets at ~$35 this set is still 20% to 30% above over what feels like would be the right, target price.

First things first: When this set was originally released, fans quickly noticed that the Flux Capacitor piece contained an egregious typo. (It asked you to "SHEILD EYES FROM LIGHT" rather than "SHIELD EYES ...") I ordered and received this set in June 2014, and it came with the updated piece with the proper spelling of "SHIELD." So if you order this set now, chances are you won't have to go through the pesky replacement process if you want the correct spelling on your Flux Capacitor.

As for the set ... look, there was no way I was passing it up. The Back to the Future trilogy remains one of my favorite film series, and I relished the chance to own a Lego version of the iconic DeLorean. This set contains both Marty and Doc minifigures (both featuring two different facial expressions), along with a skateboard for Marty. It provides the pieces and instructions to build one of three different configurations of the DeLorean. I went with the Part III version as it includes the steam punk-ish electronics on the hood which (a) look cool and (b) cover up a hood design that's stepped instead of sloped and doesn't look all that great in the Part I and II versions.

There are other things about the design that aren't ideal. The fact that both characters don't seem to fit inside the vehicle at the same time is a bummer. And the doors that open upward (just like in the movie) are cleverly constructed but flimsy as hell. They're connected by a single stud and will fall off if you're opening and closing them too much.

Still, any negatives are made up for by the fact that the wheels are designed to rotate under the car for when you want to put it in flying mode ... and that you can build a Mr. Fusion for the rear ...

So my husband loves "Back to the Future." He bought one of these as a gift for a friend and then had to buy one for himself. Even I have to admit its pretty awesome.

On behalf of my 11-year old son:
Very good similarity, really looks like the DeLorean time machine. Good construction.
Only drawback is that there is only room for one LEGO-figure inside. We remodelled it slightly to fit two figures. Then it was perfect :-)

I was very excited to receive this and spent the evening putting it together. There are a number of pieces (and extras, in case something gets lost), so it's not super simple, but no one really buys Legos to not sit any put them together, right? The end product is perfect!
