In the end, there were no rubber band tension issues and we had a very stable ferris wheel.

Lego Ferris Wheel is not a bad toy for the price ($70) considering how much some items can be. My 8 year old and I had a couple of fun days putting it together (we haven't attempted to make the bridge or crane). Looks really neat and really visually appealing. Our problems 1) there was only ONE rubber band that came with the kit (!) and even that wasn't strong enough or provided enough tension to make the thing work. Without the proper rubber band, the motor runs, but nothing happens. We substitued our own rubber band 2) the cars bottoms fall off - it's fairly flimsy 3) when it's actually running, it's tricky to keep the wheels from scrapping against the sides of the frame, and when that happens, the wheel won't turn 4) mini figs can't fit in it -- Lego give you little tiny "pretend" people. Sort of disappointing.
Overall we give it a 2 (or 2 1/2).

My six year old son got this for Christmas and he absolutely loved putting it together. So far he has only put together the ferris wheel and it was very challenging. It took him about seven hours but when it was done it worked exactly as the instructions had described. However, it has to be fine tuned. After he assembled it he had some of the same issues that a previous reviewer had with the rubber band not having proper tension and some parts scraping against the sides causing it to be unstable, but this is all a part of engineering. I went back over the assembled wheel and showed him how some of the parts weren't snapped tightly enough and he had slightly misaligned a couple of areas. We corrected these areas in about two minutes and the ferris wheel worked completely as described. In the end, there were no rubber band tension issues and we had a very stable ferris wheel. The slight issues that arose were great for building my son's troubleshooting skills. He learned that projects don't always come out perfectly the first time around and that you have to fine tune your projects to get them right in the end. I would highly recommend this product.

The title says it all, really. It's an interesting set, and at the sale price I paid for it, I feel that it was worthwhile for the pieces it came with. However, the wheel itself seemed to be so flimsy that I couldn't transport it from one room to another without pieces falling off. It was also very difficult to balance the wheel correctly in the first place.

I didn't attempt either of the other designs included in the instructions, although I did assemble my own windmill from the pieces. I just feel that the ferris wheel itself was quite a letdown, especially compared to the normally sturdy nature of Lego products.

"Santa" brought my 5-year-old the Lego Ferris Wheel this year, knowing that it would be a two-man job. We had previously put together the Lego Fire Station and a smaller Lego vehicle, but I was a little concerned that 1,000+ pieces would be too much. Happy to say, he really enjoyed helping me build it, and there were enough simple steps that he was able to be a valuable part of my assembly line. The good thing with this design is that so many steps are repeated 8 or 16 times to create the circle, so after watching me do one or two, he could crank out the other ones.

We had some issues with the tension on the bands not turning the wheel, but we doubled it up with another one and it works good enough. (no matter what we do, it doesn't turn really fast). I called Lego and they are aware of the problem and are mailing me some extra bands that should work better.

It took us about 5 days to build at about an hour/day. We haven't tried the crane or bridge yet, but he's very excited to do both. At the moment though, he likes the Ferris Wheel too much to take it apart.

My 7 year old had great fun over three days building this project. - and after playing with it for a week, he put it away (it was taking up space).
A month later he built his own imaginary structures - but finally followed up by building the moving bridge - he liked that, but unfortunately the motor had stopped working by then, so he was left with manually moving it.

Lego blocks are good because you can always re-use the pieces, but this one the pieces are a bit specialized and don't lend themselves to building other more solid projects.
