I just bought this for my 23 year old self and this set has rekindled my past love of Lego. This set uses some Technic pieces and mostly Lego bricks, as opposed to some of the newer sets that use large, custom shaped pieces. The design is very detailed, and given the fact that there is more than 1200 pieces will provide someone with hours of fun building. But Wait There's More! The Highway Transporter set comes with instructions for 3, That's Right - THREE different instructions that utilize almost all of the pieces to build 3 completely different, but cool sets. The design of the Highway Transport also reminds me of some of the more classic Lego sets because it has such a high level of detail due to the use of many small bricks, but also durability due to the use of a Technic frame.
Since it is possible to build 3 different Lego sets with this one awesome product, I believe that this review deserves to address all 3 of the possible outcomes. 1. Tow Truck + car The truck has a nice durable frame, good detail in the cab of the truck and a working lift in the back. The lifting crane extends outwards, changes angle and can pull the car up with the winch. The car is also fairly durable and well designed. Only complaint is that the front wheels of the truck do not turn, so the truck is doomed to only drive in straight lines. Overall a good choice for the first build, but I will be taking it apart to build the crane next - 4.5 stars! 2. Crane The crane is probably the most impressive looking of the designs, but once built, actually feels like the cheapest. The boom arm is "extendable" by way of a push pin that locks it in place, but this feels lame in comparison to other lego cranes. Also the crane does rotate, but due to overly creative joint design it is very unstable and tilts off of the truck easily. The overall length of the crane truck is impressive, 5 wheels per side, but due to the lack of steering the truck only rolls forward and back. In its entirety the crane truck model is impressive to look at, but the functionality and mechanical design is severely limited. 3 Stars... 3. Truck with Trailer + 2 cars The last model, the one on the box, is worth waiting for. Build the trailer truck last, as it is easily the coolest model of the 3 and you will be hard pressed to want to take this thing apart. The front truck has a good steering mechanism, detailed interior with removable roof for access, and a nice realistic look to it. The trailer is very sturdy, despite its thin looks, and is fully functional. The top ramp lowers to allow cars to drive up it, and the bottom ramp acts as a second brace to keep the top ramp up in place. The technic base of the models makes the truck and trailer very strong, but the brick exterior makes this model look so much better than comparable technic models. The cars fit the trailier nicely, but seem to be slightly oversized when compared to other Lego Creator cars. Overall, this design meets all of my expectations and was a blast to build. 5 Stars easily! --Overall Rating-- Pros: *Holy crap! 3 Sets in 1! *High durability due to the use of Technic and Brick pieces *Not many large, custom, one-time use pieces *Classic Lego set design, reminds me of my older Lego sets *Good price for a 1200+ piece set Cons: *Once a set is build with the 1200+ pieces, it's not fun to take apart to build the next set *Wheels don't turn on cars or on Crane or Tow Truck (minor complaint)

I'm 25 and I've been a Lego fan as long as I can remember. I bought this kit for myself and it was a real joy to assemble. This took me the better part of an evening to put together and kept me well entertained and occupied the whole while through. I expected this, though, since it's one of the biggest kits I've ever assembled, in sheer size and in number of pieces. The detail and design of this model is real impressive, and I keep it on a shelf to display -- when I'm not playing with it, which is a guilty pleasure of mine.
The kit is a bit more complex to build than most others, and requires a keen eye and attention to detail, which is why I give it five stars in the educational category. The serious builder won't be disappointed by this kit; it's very fun to build. I've done it twice. I won't lie, the kit is fun to play with once built, but the true fun factor is in the building. I strongly recommend this for any kid (or grown-up kid) whose real passion lies in building the kit

I bought this set for my 9-year old grandson and gave it to him at our beach vacation. Every spare moment he had was spent putting it together. He loved putting it together and loved playing with the moving parts and cars afterwards. Great educational toy. I was impressed that he put it together all by himself. I highly recommend it.

I bought this for my 8-year-old son's birthday, and he absolutely loves it. The Lego Creator series is a fantastic way for kids to build 3 different vehicles with the same set of Legos, and then break them up to build creations of their own.
My son built the crane first, which he thought was OK, but then he built the highway transporter, and loves playing with that one. The 2 cars are nice because they're bigger than regular Lego Racer cars, and they roll around like a Hot Wheels car. The highway transporter is surprisingly sturdy (unlike the Lego Agents 5 Mobile Transport, which broke apart fairly easily). I'm just amazed what the Lego engineers have been able to do with these sets, and how they are able to make these completely different vehicles with the same set of Legos. My only negative with this product is the packaging. I really wish there was some sense or reason to how they package the different sets of Legos. There were around 20 bags of various Lego parts, and I could not for the life of me figure out how they were sorted. Right after opening the box, I had to personally sort out the different colors and sizes (I used several Ziploc bags to separate all the colors). This took me well over an hour, and made it difficult for my son to start building right away. All in all, though, this set was well worth the price I paid for it.

My 10 year old has had his eye on this set for some time. He received it for Christmas and immediately started putting it together. What an awesome Lego! (and we have many) This Lego set is by far his favorite! Thanks Lego and Amazon, you're awesome!

This is an amazing set. I bought this set for my son's 5th birthday. He is a great fan of Lego since a very young age, so he was overly happy with this one. He opened the box immediately and started building the main model. This took him hours and hours (over a few days) with minimal help by me. However, he was so thrilled by it, that on the 1st day (which was a weekend) I had to *make* him eat, drink and have a bathroom break sometimes...
Overall, it is one of the best sets we own. All three trucks are really nice. There are a few cons, though: The pieces are packed in 19(!) bags, but the bags are not numbered. This makes finding the bricks hard and tedious. In other sets he built in the past, the bags were numbered and the instructions pointed to the right bag so it was much easier. Then, trying to play with the Highway Transporter, it happens that the design of the (large) tires is such that steering the wheels on a countertop becomes somewhat hard as the tires tend to deform easily. I think that the rubber is just too thin and soft for this size of wheels. Unfortunately, the tow track and the crane do not have steering wheels, which is a pity as it could make these models perfect. For some time I wondered if I should take the boy to the next, Technic level, as the Creator sets proved easy enough. So just before investing in Technic models I decided to use this one as a test case. Now I am sure that he can cope with the Technic set, and this is probably our last non-Technic one. But what a "last"! Not cheap, but highly recommended. (I see the price now starts at $114. I can't believe I got it a few months ago on sale from Amazon for $67...)

I purchased this for my 8 year old son. He had seen the picture in another lego set he received and would not stop talking about this Creator model. I realized this was a little out of his age range but he is pretty savvy with legos so I took a chance. While he did need considerable help putting it together, the finished product is great. I wish the lego company could be a little more clear with some if its instructions, but ultimately we figured it out. Took about 5 hours to assemble, spread over a 3 day period. Very large, tons of pieces and adult guidance a must if under lego's recommended age frame. All in all, my son loves this set and is ready to tackle the tow truck that can also be assembled with the same set.

This toy was incredible. I Legos have come a long way in what you are able to build with them. I loved it. Durability is only a problem if you have a 4 year old who wants to crash the trucks and cars together.
