We really enjoyed putting this set together. My son is 10 and has a short attention span and some LD issues but he really wanted to do this. He had done a Star Wars set but it was too "fussy" for him. In the "Town Plan" they divide the parts into numbered bags for each building and related parts, but there is still plenty of time searching for parts--just not so much time that you get frustrated. We put the related parts on paper plates so they wouldn't keep getting bumped off the table. My son worked on this a little every night (I helped look for parts), and he could easily follow the page by page instructions himself. He liked building something that was a replica of the original and he got a lot of encouragement to continue from seeing each section completed. (It's a big deal for him to finish something.) Sorry the photo isn't very good; we want to make something with roads for underneath, and we bought an extra set of "Town" people to add to it because my son loves to play with it.

This lego set was a nice challenge for our sons to build. The 8 year old could build most of it himself but needed a little help from older brother and dad. Great buildings, nice assortment of pieces, is definitely one of the favorite sets ever worked on as rated by the kids.

The Lego Town Plan is the coolest Lego set I've seen in years. This set is what helped me decide to collect Lego's again, after being a huge Lego Maniac back in the 1980's. I can't help but think about how much fun I would have had with this set as a kid. What you get is well worth the money spent. We're not talking huge buildings here, but you really can't go wrong, and would be a great start (or addition) to any Lego Town. The retro design is so cool, it looks like they come right out of the 50's! I'd say out of the three buildings, the gas station is the one with the most play value. The detachable gas pump island allows you to place the pumps anywhere, although it would have been cool to have them be more stationary so they aren't in the middle of the road...etc. The garage is cool, comes with a sliding garage door and a bunch of tools, as well as the car wash (only smaller cars will fit in the garage and car wash). The snack shop comes with food in a display case and cash register. The movie theater also has incredible detail, from the "Cinema" sign and marquee out front, to the soda and popcorn stand on the inside. Plenty of room and comfy seats for at least 5-6 minifigs to catch the western playing on the big screen. I maybe would have designed the ticket booth out front a bit different, but that's neither here nor there. The town hall has a cool outer facade, and the fountain is cool as well. I purchased a seperate green Lego base plate and put the town hall on one end of the plate, with the fountain in the middle, like a park. The interior of the town hall leaves something to be desired, but I think the outer facade is the best feature. The flowers do pop off quite easily, but it's no big deal. The blue roadster that comes with the set is very cool as well. It's a tight fit for minifigs, but a very cool car indeed. All told, a very cool set. If you aren't a fan of stickers, well, it comes with quite a few stickers. There are no pre-labeled pieces, so if you look at the set, anything with lettering you have to apply. But again, no big deal. Just time consuming if you're a perfectionist. Again, worth the money. Your town just isn't complete without it!

LEGOs are always fun. No time like the now to begin rebuilding those bridges to childhood, even if you must live vicariously through your children. In fact, I don't think I've let my 9-yr-old play with any of the LEGOs yet (and the Town Plan was his x-mas gift)! HA! He'll have to wait until he has children, and then he can play with their toys.Truthfully, my son emailed a wishlist link for the LEGO Town Plan just before x-mas. Amazon was expedient in getting it to our house on time, even though I told my son that there was no way we could get it in time, since he emailed the link so close to x-mas. He was surprised (as well he should have been; it was x-mas), and we've had hours of fun building together =) The LEGO Town Plan is an upgraded version of the Town Plan released 50 years ago (note the pics on the boxes; the weird-old-guy on the 2008 box is the kid on the 1958 box). The building designs look the same, but they open and function a bit differently than the original version.

Purchased this from Gold box deal one day for under 100. Set is rated 12 and up but my 9 yo assembled it with ease. I think the under 100 is a terrific price point for it. Comes with several mini figs and vehicles. The gas station is a little clumsy to work with trying to actually operate a mini fig in there, the sign on the gas station constantly topples over but the church is fantastic in it's detail and the clever use of the gold bricks in the pond is really nice too. Overall very happy with the price I paid, wouldn't think it was worth the everyday regular price hence the 4 stars

This set is really awesome. Of course, it's 1900+ pieces, so if you have animals or kids you have to be really vigilant that no pieces go their own way. Hence low rating on "durability"--lose one piece and you'll be unable to complete a portion of the city. It is a lot of fun, though, and a great project for kids and parents alike.

My son (7 yrs old with autism) got this set for Christmas and we just finished building the entire set. I am really really pleased with it. The buildings are nicely detailed both inside and out. It went together with absolutely no problems, although with nearly 2000 pieces it does take a while. I only gave it 4 stars for durability because as with all Lego buildings, you start getting rough and things fall off. That is just the nature of the product. You put them back on and keep playing. These buildings are pretty sturdy though. These are must have additions to your Lego town.

Purchased for 10 yr old granddaughter who loves building things....she loves it and completed it the day she began.....The price was nice as well. We discovered this Christmas what our daughter says is true...."you can always find it on Amazon and usually at a good price." This Christmas we did a lot of internet shopping for convenience and were not disappointed in our Amazon purchases. Now I've started looking at Amazon first when looking for toys, books and some gifts. Thanks so much!

This is a really nice Lego set. Makes a good size town with all kinds of buildings, people and vehicles to build. Although it is marked for the age bracket of 12-14 years old, my 8 year old grandson had the patience to tackle this. It takes some time to create, providing many hours of fun. When completed it is a good size, but not huge, so he was able to keep it set up to play with over and over again. Was very happy with this purchase.
