This review is from: LEGO Lava Dragon Game (3838) (Toy)
So, I am a big fan of the new series of Lego Games. This one just seems to fall a little bit short of its brethren in terms of fun. The game has solid mechanics. Instead of rolling a numbered dice, you roll a blank dice. When a blank side comes up, you insert a tile of your color on that face (each face can hold 4 tiles) and move a space. When a side that isn't blank comes up, every player that has a tile on that face moves one. If there is still a spot left, you can add a tile of your color. There are some interesting mechanics. On two of the faces, a lava tile in in place which lets you move a piece to block another player's ascent. First player to the top of the mountain and that rolls a lava tile wins via flying away on the dragon. Another cool mechanic of this game is there is a stick that you can stick through the mountain and knock another player off the mountain... literally. It is fun, but I think that compared to games like Minotarus and Creationary, this game just comes up lacking. Still playable, still fun, just not my fave.

Lava Dragon is one of the Lego Games, a series of board games made out of Lego bricks.Though simply a regular board game, Lava Dragon has some interesting features to ensure that you will play the game multiple times. (Of course! It's Lego!!!) The dice, for example evolves throughout the game, pieces add to it almost every turn. Eventually, Microfigures are "leaping" around the board as players roll the dice, hoping to send other players to the start while they go to the top. Once a Microfigure reaches the top, it must land on a specific peg, whereupon, it will be moved to the dragon and win the game! For about the same price, you can get LEGO Monster 4 Game (3837), which is more fun and creative. The game times can be sporadic, however. Though the box says 15-20 minutes for each game, my first game took about 60 seconds at most! That only tells you how crazy it gets!!! Overall, this game is a nice buy, especially if you're a big fan of Lego!

With 4 kids (the oldest being 7 y/o), this is a great game for the whole family to play! Being that the game is made of LEGO's it does have a tendency to fall apart easily as the kids paw all over it, but the rules are very simple that even my 4 y/o can understand them. Definitely a great family game!
