This construction site dump truck has very good playability and is well-paired with the front-end loader (#7630). Both models are at the low-price end of the Lego City line. And both are nicely proportioned. The dump truck has a few more specialized parts than the front-end loader, but other than the two boulders, there are no pieces that are truly single-use (e.g., no one-piece truck bed). I can't find any shortcoming in terms of play (nothing keeps falling off when children play with it). I strongly recommend this model so long as you can find it at or below MSRP (when Lego models rotate of out production, you'll find resellers often list sets at ridiculous prices; shop wisely).

My son will be 8 and has been building legos for years now, large to small pcs as he grew. He will build for hours and create his own but he is now collecting all of the city construction. The pcs stay together, you can really use them to play with where they don't come apart once put together. Great for imagination and creativity.

I found two faults with this set. The sides to the trailer are set specific. The hinge for the trailer breaks off easily. Otherwise it is a fine set. It articulates nicely. My four year old likes it but I have to refix the hinge often.

I have been a lego collector for several years and the new construction vehicles they have been coming out with are great!!! Over the years the instructions with lego sets have become more simple to read and understand and the sets hold up great. Better construction and new style of parts have made things much better looking and they don't fall apart as easily. I would highly recommend this and other sets for anyone who likes the city series and collectors.

The kids and I had fun putting this together. Lots of small parts so watch the age group. So far by boys have come up with at least 5 variations.

We bought the first truck for our 6 year old daughter a while ago. It's very cool looking toy, and my daughter loves it. So we decided to purchase another one for my friend's son's birthday. My daughter needs some help from her daddy to put the truck together, but I think that's a perfect activity they enjoy together. Once the truck is put together, my daughter plays with it in a imaginary play along with other little Lego people for a long time. (she enjoys the little moving parts on the truck, as well as the little people and rocks that come with it.)

I bought this for my five year old and seven year old sons who love Lego. The box says it's for ages 5-12, so I thought it would be perfect. Great reviews on Amazon too. I guess I should have looked more closely--as it has 189 pieces--most of them very very small. This is way too complicated for any 5-7 year old to put together on their own. And as they try, they'll inevitably lose at least some of the pieces. So, in less than a week, we have a bunch of Legos to add to our set, but not enough to build the dump truck.

Now, if you plan to build it for your kids, and put it back together everytime they modify it--then you'll like this. Otherwise, I'd avoid this for those under 8. Much better is to spend your $20.00 on one of the generic Lego building sets.

If Lego really wants to design a dump truck that 5-7 year olds can put together, it should have 20-30 pieces not 189. Not sure what they're thinking.

My oldest son loved playing with legos, back in the 70's. Often they were too difficult to put together and take apart because the pieces fit so tightly, but when he got his project together, it stayed together until he took it apart. The new lego sets that we've purchased recently for our youngest son go together much more easily but they also come apart easily. This dump truck is frustrating because it will not stay together. It would be fine for an adult that collects such things but not for a child that expects the truck to haul plastic boulders.
