We purchased 2 of these Lego Ninjago Swords w/Sheaths for $14.99 each (yes, that is the full retail price) at the Lego Store in the mall this past weekend. The sword is ok. On the blade is a picture of a dragon with an emerald jewel eye breathing fire. The sword itself is not very sturdy (and I don't see it lasting long). It is made of a very thin backmounted foam material (the picture of the dragon is glued to both sides of the exposed thin black foam). It wouldn't take much effort/pressure to bend it in half (i.e., break it) because it does not "spring back" into shape. If the sword were made of a thicker, more flexible foam (more nerf-like) that would be ideal. The fabric sheath, however, is really cool-looking. It really screams "NINJA" and makes the outfit. My boys have dueled everyday with these swords without hurting one another. They especially like the sheath because they can store their swords on their backs when they aren't "fighting." The SWORD gets 1-2 stars and the SHEATH gets 4-5 stars and the SET an overall 3-4 stars simply because my boys love playing with it.

If you are looking for an inexpensive, slightly better quality sword, we also bought the How To Train Your Dragon Movie Hiccup Dragon Foam Sword a little over a month ago at Wal-Mart on sale for $6. It is a good foam sword that will last if you do not have a child who is inclined to "rip it" to see what's underneath. My younger son figured out that there was something under the foam and decided to (with some effort) rip the foam off and find out exactly what. Mystery solved ... it's clear hard plastic (which now makes the sword a little more dangerous). With the foam ...

I was disappointed when I opened the box and found that the sword was foam. For the amount I paid I was expecting something a little more durable. Once I got past that I found that my son absolutely loves it. It has some great jewel details on the sword and the sheath fits him perfectly and it is hard to get him to take it off. It is quite refreshing to get all of the plastic swords out of his underpants.

My son has had this sword for 2 years now and it is still in great shape! It's still his favorite sword and he plays with it al the time. He comes home from school and runs into his room to put it on just to wear around the house. :)
