Bought this as a Christmas present for my son and it was his favorite gift and the first thing he went to the next morning. He had some help with assembly, but that was to join in the fun. He built half of it himself, says he could have done it all but it would have taken a long time. Granted, he has a brain like a little engineer, and has done more difficult Legos for the higher age ranges. The sound is pretty cool, and thankfully not loud or annoying. The sound brick has those little button batteries. He would give it 10 stars, really loves this set. It's also quite large, which adds to its impressiveness.

Disappointment at the End Hours of Assembling, December 25, 2011

It takes a long time to put this thing together, that is OK, except that parts are put in wrong bags. The bags have numbers and you are supposed to open number 1 first, then 2 etc., but doing this will not work. You end up opening the bags out of sequence. The parts mostly go together well and don't come apart easily which is a good thing. What is maddening is a total lack of care about how the sound making module is designed to be put in place. After all that is the part that my son cared about most. This is not about not following directions. If you follow the given directions exactly, you end up with the sound module's switch press down. That means it cannot be activated because it is stuck down. I have assembled two of these to about 6 months, returned the first one for the same reason. Then this Christmas thinking that the problem may have been in that one unit, my wife bought a new one, but has the same problems.
With my son sad and slowly crying, I kind of fudged the assembly of the sound module by removing one of the black flat square pieces that is supposed to keep it in place. This freed the switch, but the module is in a semi-hanging state and will fall after a little use.
For a bunch of plastic parts costing $60, I expect more. So disappointed with Lego for putting this in market without checking it. Do Not buy.
