Amazon.com Review

Alpha Team throws puzzle after puzzle at players, and challenges them to guide a LEGO team through levels, rescue other LEGO team members, and open the level gate. The puzzles take quite a bit of thinking, and require the use of numerous devices, such as explosives and lasers.

Unfortunately, the graphics are quite small, and not very colorful--which isn't a deal breaker, but does remove some of this title's shine. Also, after players design a team member's path through a level, they're made to watch and see if their plan worked without interference.

Needless to say, this isn't the most intense game around, but it's a good diversion for puzzle lovers. --Robb Guido

Pros:

  • Solid number of LEGO devices and specially skilled team members
  • Well-designed puzzles
Cons:
  • Small graphics, and excessive amount of auto-controlled action

Product Description

The much-loved, interlocking, colored plastic pieces aren't going to get caught in the vacuum cleaner or make the dog choke anymore. Presenting a series of challenging puzzles to tickle your brain and keep your fingers moving, LEGO ALPHA TEAM lets you control Dash and his Underlings as they try to squelch the evil plans of Ogel. Redirect your team by placing stairs, trampolines, chutes, Changer Tiles, and other pieces on the board. You'll have a limited number of pieces on hand to complete each mission, making the action very difficult and the stress factor high. The game is full of great devices and items: two team members can seesaw or use anti-gravity generators, and there are explosive dynamite detonators, cutting lasers, and other items as well. A great blend of classic LEGO building and modern-day videogame action, LEGO ALPHA TEAM is a great way to give your brain a little bit of exercise and fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars LEGO Alpha Team GB Color, November 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: LEGO Alpha Team (Game Cartridge)
A fun Gameboy game for Lego lovers! If you enjoy puzzles, games, and Legos, you'll enjoy this color GB game. Use your lego-building skills to help your team outsmart the opponents. With over 40 puzzles and activities, this would make a great gift for any puzzle or GB lover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, looking for a sequel, June 22, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGO Alpha Team (Game Cartridge)
Judging from the hours my 7-year-old son has put into finishing all the levels of this game, I'd have to judge it to be the perfect video game. It's not an action game but a puzzle or logic game. The two of us played together on many screens, moving the ramps and tiles to make the players get from one point to another. One review complained about not being able to interfere with the characters as they are running the course, but it seems to me that this is just like computer programming. You set up the system then watch it run to figure out what goes wrong. Then you move some stuff around, maybe even reconceiving the whole plan, and try again. The logic skills it exercizes are evident. We played on the PC, not the nintendo, but our graphics were great. Maybe the Nintendo port is lousy, but it's a shame if it is, because this is a great game. I'm looking for a sequel.

3.0 out of 5 stars LEGO Alpha Team, July 8, 2001
By
This review is from: LEGO Alpha Team (Game Cartridge)
I got this video game for Christmas, and thought very highly of it. This video game really isn't rescuing people or going around finding treasure with your LEGO Team. It's more strategy. You have to move mirrors and stuff to the right position, and aim it so you can get to and opening in a house. After playing it, I discarded it, and I was very unhappy with my buy. But if strategy and smarts is for you, you should buy this game.
