Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Replicate the home to the nation's Head of State. There are few structures in the United States with the history and reverence of The White House, designed by James Hoban. On July 16, 1792, President George Washington chose this James Hoban design from six competing designs from renowned architects. This six-story Sandstone structure was meant to command respect for the nation from citizens and foreign visitors. Construction took place from 1792 - 1800 and it was rebuilt by Hoban following the fire of 1814. The assembled White House model stands 9" (22 cm) wide on a base with printed name label and includes a booklet with facts about the building, its construction and its history.

Of all the architecture sets, I think this is the best. It's a bit repetitive (there are two mass-made parts which are then put on as the windows and spaces between the windows) other than that, the build is pretty fun. If you have big hands or fat fingers this set will be a challenge to build, as all the pieces are on the tiny end.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this set is the instruction booklet. In addition to building instructions, it is full of history tidbits about the whitehouse as well as photos.
If you like lego buildings, then I'd say this set is a must have for you. When finished the set is rather small, and there are no minifigs. I wouldn't recommend this for a child, the play value for them is fairly low, it has no minifigs. This set sits on a bookshelf in my place. If fifty dollars is too much for a bookend, then I would recommend a different lego set. There are plenty of others that sell for fifty which have alot more bricks and minis. Overall though, it's a good set, just more of an adult set.

Receiving a Lego set during the holidays or on a birthday are some of the fondest memories of my childhood. Being an avid Lego fan growing up and keeping all my original sets from throughout the 80s for my own children to play with, discovering this new series of Lego sets brought all those memories rushing back. What an original concept! It's an excellent learning experience on these modern architectural marvels. I have purchased each of these sets except for Fallingwater, the Guggenheim, and the Empire State Building but they are next on my list. The White House is an extremely satisfying build and rich with detail. With the medium of the Lego brick offering endless building possibilities, this set captures the beauty and majesty of the White House. I hope this series is successful and continues to grow with new sets! I have rediscovered a nostalgic passion from my childhood and it's a very rewarding experience. Don't hesitate to purchase this set!!!

I have enjoyed the entire Lego achitecture collection. It isn't just a building experience, but also an opportunity to learn. Each set comes with a beautiful book that desribes the building or monument and details the structures architecture. The White House was, of course, an honor to construct and learn about at the same time. I loved this gift. I am 13 and in middle school.

It's very tiny when finished - about 3 inches by 8 inches. Not worth the money. You can buy lego toys triple this size with the same amount of money. Also I think it's a defect - missing two pieces. My son has to find two pieces from his other lego set to be able to finish. I saw other people in their review mentioned about the missing pieces. The age labelled 12+. But it took my 7 year-old 2 hours to finish it.

I was interested in buying this set for a while, but because the price was so high for such a small and simple-looking product, I wanted to do a little background check. A while ago, I used an Adobe PDF copy of the building instructions and LEGO Digital Designer to build the set and preview it. In doing this, I found a specific reason why the price of this building set was higher than necessary:

In place of the simple black 1x1 brick, a black 1x1 TECHNIC brick is used in its place.

This may not be really important to you, but it will be for your wallet. I absolutely love LEGO and appreciate the Architecture series this set is a part of, yet for almost $50, I as a consumer would expect a whole lot more than 560 small pieces.

The hole in the center of the black 1x1 TECHNIC brick does not show on the exterior and is not needed to hold any support pieces in place in the hollow interior, so I can take a wild guess and say that LEGO's initial price of this set is based on the usage on those specific TECHNIC bricks. These can easily be replaced with simple black 1x1 bricks, and using the price estimate button on LEGO Digital Designer (The older version from January 2012 when you could buy what you created; not the current version.), the initial price shrunk from $52.31 to $26.95...

I hope this helps with your purchasing decision on this set and I hope you find my review helpful. Peace out!

My son got this for hos 11th birthday. He is really into the Lego architecture series. This was the most challenging and rewarding one yet for him. Did over the course of two day ...really just night and then morning. Finished product looks really good and all his friends comment on it when they come over!

An awesome Lego kit that was a Christmas present for an 8 year old. She was able to complete with little help. The kit itself is beautifully done and makes a great display. The little history blurbs in the instructions really add to the experience. Recommended highly!

My 10-year-old nephew is a huge fan of LEGO, as well as anything related to American History. We saw this same product at a toy store in Williamsburg...it cost $75...wow! Amazon was much cheaper at $45. My nephew loved the gift and immediately began putting it together the day after Christmas! Ordering through Amazon made my Christmas shopping easier this year...and it's wonderful to be able to find this type of quality product through online shoppping.
