Other then getting a headache building the set with my son, its over 1000 pieces, I have no complaints. It has become the central focus of his super hero obsession and his bedroom. None of the components are difficult to build, and although the spiral staircase is cool its is a bit poorly designed because it often "collapses" with rough play. In addition while the rotating car pad is pretty neat, expect that one single lego in the middle to get broken the second a younger child trys to spin the platform by hand. But onto the good things; the detail is excellent from the computer screens to the joker bomb in the glass case. Mr. Freeze is just about the coolest lego man I have seen, you get a classic gray Batman, Robin, The Penguin, a penquin sub, a snowmobile for Robin, a larger snowmocar for Batman and a penguin sub. My only grip is there is nothing for Mr. Freeze to ride/drive but if your child is anything like mine that will be remedied in short order.
It would have been nice if they had labeled the bags like the Batmobile/Two-Face Chase set, 1000+ legos are difficult to sort through, but if you are prepared for that then this set is more than worth the price and your child will love it for years to come.
The only LEGO Set I have that is better than this is the Johnny Thunder Dragon Fortress. This is a very fun set to play with. It has great functions and the characters are really good. It has two of my favorite villains (Penguin and Mr. Freeze) and some cool Good Guys. The only thing I was disappointed about was that it didn't come with Riddler (because he's my favorite villain). Otherwise this is a very good set and I highly recommend it. And after all, I can't be too disappointed about Riddler because he comes in the Arkham Asylum set.
I love the set, it's got such great detail and I like the bat computer. The robin I like a lot better than the new ones. It may be difficult to build as there are tons of unlabelled bags. Though that's how old lego sets like this one were. The batman suit is neat, it's black with a gold/bronze similar to the new black suited batman but the new one has yellow on it instead of gold/bronze. The bat blade (sled) is nice. Robins jet ski is small but still cool. I like penguins sub as it's nice the features that make it look like a penguin like the flippers on the side and the penguin feet on the back. Alfred is awesome as he is a exclusive figure to this set as no other sets have him, not even the newer batcave. The penguin minifigure is cool, I still like this one better than the new one. Mr freezes body is basic just plain blue torso and pants but his helmet is cool and his weapon is pretty big. The Mr freeze goon is very simple just a blue torso with dark grey pants. The jail is amazing with the dark and old look to it and the secret entrance design is very neat. The dock and the bat symbol tower is good, the bat symbol also has a net launcher which launches out with the push of a button and there's also a middle with it the shoots if you pull the red piece back that's on it. The staircase in the middle I like a lot. This has gotta be my all time favourite lego set.
-Pros- 1-You get really great mini figures, like Batman, Exclusive Robin, Mr.Freeze, Penguin, 3 penguin missions, and exclusive Bruce Wayne and Alfred! 2-Really cool vehicles in this set! The Bat blade is my favorite in this set, but you also get Penguins mini sub, and robins jet ski! 3-The set is huge! It comes with a platform for any batman vehicle (Collectors edition bat-mobile won't fit on it). 4-The transformation chamber is really simple and cool. 5-The cage to catch the bad guys is really cool, and with Bruce's barbell on top was a great addition. 6-The bat-computer is my favorite part of the set...Just the design and everything on it. I love it. 7-I love the net feature as well. Really great. Also comes with missile! 8-The platform that the vehicles are supposed to go on can rotate as well. -Cons- 1-Mr.Freeze should have a vehicle, but thats not a big deal at all.
Overall, this is one of my favorite LEGO sets of all time. I got this over eBay for $350 about a year ago, and I've been wanting the set for years, and finally got it, so I just fell in love. I'm sorry to the people who couldn't afford this, it is very pricey, but I haven't regretted anything. So if you can, and you have a spare $1000, go for this set, its amazing :)
This set is amazing. I love the details and i love the size of it. I love the staircase and mr freeze is the cooler one. The only thing i do not like is the $700 price. It is very high yet reasonable since its a rare older set which is in high demand for new collectors and some old ones who could not get their hands on it.
My son saved for months to get this ever since he spotted it in his Lego magazine. As another reviewer indicated, it would be nice if they put all the pieces for a particular unit in a bag and labeled it as such. One ship/car/building/person spread out over 5 bags can get a little monotonous in a 1000+ piece set. Regardless, he joys in getting a new toy everyday (I'm pacing myself to a vehicle a day). Obviously components are not glued tight and with play will fall apart. Lego's can typically be better for 'looking at' rather than 'playing with'. My six and seven year olds' occasionally have problems connecting the pieces as well. I don't know if it is a hand/eye thing or strength issue, but it allows good father/son time to devote to a complex project.
