It helps that Batman is the star...,

...but "LEGO Batman" could have been so much more. While I am generally pleased with the graphical quality and overall presentation of the game, the gameplay is in sore need of an overhaul
But anyway, let's begin with: THE GOOD: 1) The character diversity is impressive. I was happy to see some fanboy additions, rather than merely the main offenders, and overall, I was pleased at the number and variety of characters appearing. 2) The vehicle stages are impressive. While the main nemesis of the game (control) rears its ugly head at times, in general, the movement was fast-paced and frantic, if a little easy. 3) The graphics are nice. Crisp, colorful and clean. While it could have been better, the payoff would have been slight (these are LEGOs, after all). 4) There are a good number of extras in this game. Hidden stages, hidden characters, hidden facts, hidden upgrades - they are all here. If I had one gripe here, it's that there isn't a super-challenging mode (or at least one which I could find). THE BAD: 1) Control. It's painful. It's unforgivable. This same game has been made three times before - why can't they get it right? Walking along narrow pathways can be a chore, and jumps are often missed, causing much frustration. 2) Environment. At times, it's difficult to determine where you can and can't go - until you die, over and over. While the puzzles are generally not difficult, their appearance is often masked, and it can be unclear if there is a puzzle at ALL. Combined with bad point one, this yields an incredible amounnt of frustration. 3) Difficulty. With the exception of the cheapness factor due to the horrible control, the game itself is very easy. One-on-one battles are a joke (you can just hit one button, over and over), and the general rule of the levels is ...just to smash everything. Some more variety here would have been appreciated. THE UGLY: 1) Size of game. This game is just too small for the PS3/XBox/Wii. It would have been nice to see some challenge modes, or hidden stories, etc. etc. So, that's that. If you've liked these games before (as have I), you will like this one, but will probably feel a slight tinge of disappointment. If these games have not appealed to you, don't buy this one, unless you really like Batman.

So I'm a gigantic Batman nerd, and I've enjoyed the Lego games quite a bit so far. The two Lego Star Wars games (and by extension the complete saga) were a fantastic mix of puzzling, platforming, and action. They even managed to throw in Legos and Star Wars, I don't know how you could not enjoy those games. Lego Indy was alright as well, but something about it just didn't sit right with me, but after seeing the original trailer for Lego Batman I knew I was going to love it, and Traveler's Tales seems to love proving me right.
First off, the gameplay. If you're looking for some new and groundbreaking game mechanics then...why are you even looking at this game? It's the same basic control scheme as the others. Punch, jump, build, and switch characters are basically the only controls. You can however throw batterangs by holding down the punch button (a very cool addition). And you can acquire all sorts of new abilities by switching suits. There's a glide suit, bomb suit, heat suit. Just about anything the old 60's batman comics had, you'll find it here folks. Playing as the villains is also fun, as each one seems to have some sort of unique ability that will probably have you laughing so hard you'll fall off the couch. Yes the camera can get off sometimes, and lead to some needless deaths, but it's not as if you get some sort of major penalty for dying in this game. And the controls are so accessible, if you're looking for some way to get your non-gaming significant other into gaming, the lego series is the best way to do it, bar none. Generally I'm pretty alone in my love for my consoles, but I pop in Lego Batman (or Star Wars) and all of a sudden my fiance, brother, nephews, neices, parents are all fighting for the controllers. It's the weirdest feeling to be kicked off your controller by people who said you wasted your money on a console, but it's a gratifying one nonetheless. And for the nerds, let's see here. It's an original Batman "story." Ok, it's not really a story per say, but it's not based on any specific movie or comic storyline. And it while it doesn't fit into any sort of timeline, the number of characters in it will blow your mind. Barbara Gordon Batgirl? Check. Nightwing? Check. Alfred? Checkidy Check! And for those of us who grew up watching the old Tim Burton movies, the original score from the first movie is used as the soundtrack. Awesome little details really make this game. So if you love old school platforming, get it. If you like Batman, get it. If you've enjoyed the previous lego games, get it. If none of the above applies to you...well...I dunno what to tell ya. But for everyone else, you will not be dissapointed. Well worth it!

You'd figure that with two Lego Star Wars games and Lego Indiana Jones already under their belts, Travelers Tales' Lego games would be getting kind of stale. Well, you'd figure wrong. Lego Batman features everything that was enjoyable with the aforementioned games, and slaps the Batman license on it to boot. Playing as the Caped Crusader and his sidekick Robin, you traverse a Lego-fied Gotham City and take on the usual rogues gallery of baddies. Fans of the Batman comics will be happy to see plenty of familiar faces: Joker, Nightwing, Batgirl, Hush, Bane, and plenty more are all here for your amusement. If you've played any of the previous Lego-based games, you should already know what to expect here, as Lego Batman offers up plenty of funny and comical moments supplemented with tons of unlockables and bonus characters to boot. The game looks good and even offers Danny Elfman's classic Batman theme, rounding out the presentation. The only downsides to Lego Batman are the same flaws that were apparent in previous Lego games: the difficulty is simple to say the least, and the game isn't that long at all. Still, with the hordes of unlockables to find, you'll keep playing, although it would have been nice to have some online co-op features by now. All in all, Lego Batman is a fun and family friendly diversion that anyone can enjoy and easily pick up and play.

Having just completed the Lego Batman game, I feel that I can provide a reasonable review. The game is a fun way to play as Batman, easily accessible by younger players (rather than the dark-nasty level of something like Arkham Asylum). Overall, the game is similar to other Lego games, such as Star Wars or Indiana Jones. The violence in the game is comic - since everything is built from legos, dying simply means breaking into component lego pieces.
As far as the game specifics - the game is broken into three overall stories, each of which pits Batman and Robin against a group of five villains from Batman's rogues gallery. Each story has five levels where you play as Batman and Robin, foiling the criminals. Then you can play five levels of the villains setting up the crimes. This means that you'll sometimes see a scene within a level from both the heroes' and villains' perspectives. Once you complete a level, you can free-play it as any combination of heroes and villains - meaning you can have Batman and the Joker working together. Some of the levels are vehicles, meaning you will be driving the batmobile or batplane (or the villains' vehicles) around, rather than controlling the characters. Expect familiar Bat-family characters and villains. Batman, Robin, Nightwing and Batgirl make up the heroes. Both of the Bats have several different suits for particular challenges (heat-protection, Sonic projector, glider, demolitions), and likewise so do Robin/Nightwing (magnet, underwater, attractor, and something I'm forgetting). The villains typically get only a single version - Catwoman gets a "classic" costume, and Joker gets a Tropical outfit as options, but they add no abilities. While the game is fun, I thought the developers could have added more. There are significantly less playable characters in Lego Batman than in Lego Star Wars, and many of them are simply thugs of various types. There are also fewer levels (30 vs. 36). The Star Wars game also has more extra levels and bounty hunter scenarios. In addition, the choices of characters force you to always use one of the Bats and one of the Birds in the free-play mode. Batman/Batgirl are essential if you need to shatter glass with the sonic suit, or handle hot materials while wearing the heat-protection suit. By including a few more villains, the developers could have allowed an all-villain free play - Firefly could certainly handle hot materials, for instance. Also, while the Lego Star Wars game has some hidden characters you can find while using the Extra Toggle feature (e.g., Han Solo in Carbonite), Batman doesn't have any such characters. There are also a few very frustrating scenes. Some are overly complex, and you'll be playing them multiple times to figure everything out. A few - such as the Ice Slide in Arctic World - will require you to play the level over and over until you get it right. Some of the hidden goodies are impossible to find without resorting to a clue book or online hints. Still, the game is fun. The humor throughout the short videos will amuse younger players, and the game is certainly worth the price.

Ok so i go tthis game so that my little sister and i can rot our brains out together haha. and it is a lot of fun. most of the missions are fun enough for an experienced person to have fun all the while a 10 yr old wont be lost int he dark. so overall the game is great and i would give it a, 8.5/10 for fun.
however this game has 2 problems which i will expand on. the first and worst feature are the vehicle sections, these missions are absolutely HORRIBLE. i mean they are about as much fun as running my knuckles through a cheese grater, except i could only do that once, in contrast to the 6 vehicle sections. these sections have camera angles that seem to try as hard as possible to piss you off, you will need to go to a specific corner of the map to do a specific job but you cant because the bloody camera is busy staring at the shiny brick on the other side of the god forsaken map. On top of that every section is basically you doing all the work in the only ship that actually matters while the other ship flys around stealing coins then losing them. Now we played this in coop mode so we can avoid the thick dunce they call an AI, but that didnt help because the partner always gets stuck behind a building you didnt even know was jutting out because of the stupid camera angles. I love this game but the vehicle sections are absolutely DISGUSTING. the next and only other main issue i had was something i went over above, camera angles, but only in coop mode. It seems that if you have a certain job to do, which your partner cant help you with, instead of zooming in on you and letting your partner wallow int he corner of view, it zooms so you can see both of you and everything within a 5 mile radius of the person farthest from the job. i kid, it really isnt that bad because honestly 90% of the time the camera was perfectly fine and well rendered, but just be warned, twice, maybe thrice, its best for player 2 to drop out for you to get a better view, then drop back in. in the long run however, the horrifically made vehicle sections that should rot in a special place in he.ll are the only major issues with this game. other than that its superbly designed. the drop in drop out feature through out is a great idea, so when one person is taking a leak you can steal all the coins (muahahaha) the game is very well designed as far as difficulty goes, it keeps it at a fair level for kids while making it interesting for adults it keeps the same basic idea so you are rarely confused (if you are, you my friend are an idiot) but is never repetitive it has highly replayable, which you WILL do just to get the blasted minikits to prove you cant be outdone but a lego game and other than the parts mentioned above you will always be entertained, and i do recommend this to anyone, whether you are 10 (in which case i apologize for the insults before) or if you are a "hard core gamer" that just wants a fun little game (in which case i would also like to point out that kiddie games make girls think you are "sensitive" lol) overall an 8.5 out of 10, just make sure to buy a bit of pain killers for the 6 vehicle sections...

i am very picky about the games. I thought I could never found a game that I have liked as much as little big planet. little big planet is perfect for single players but batman lego is real fun for multiplayers. lego batman is easy to finish and pass along the levels. we are always playing 2 people. it is the best multiplayer game i have played so far!

This is a really fun game. My kids and I love playing it together. The two player game is great to play with each other. Could have used a little bit more replayability to get 5 stars. After you run through the game once, it loses some of the fun.

I bought this game for my 7 year old, he was very excited about it because we do have all three games by Lego, and have really enjoyed playing them. It is the easier of the three, the levels seem shorter and villans take very little to knock off. In general it is a fun simple minded game, but the creators could have made the levels longer and more challenging, like in Lego Stars Wars. My 7 year old loves it, and would play it all day long if we let him. But it might be better to wait till it is priced cheaper and you won't feel cheated.
