Wow same price as lego and prime shipping!!!
The reviewer above must not have noticed this is the exact same price as lego store and with free shipping. I will say 2 sets are available here and 1 is [...]$ higher but this isn't it!! great price and great shipping! Not to mention one of the best sets lego has ever made, it would be worth [...]$ more for the value of play!! From the blacksmith to the stabels to the market! this set is awesome! Definetely going to be worth about 3-4 times purchase price in about 10 years!! great for collecting. You get a big tree!! 2 cows, 2 chickens, 1 duck, a horse, a carront, a frog, a whole cooked turkey not just it's legs!! apples, flowers, fish!!, a rat, a hairbrush, a bed a dresser, a stove, a fireplace a treasure chest!! This is one massive set really great! It is not in numbered bags, some will love that, some like me won't!! 1601+ extra pieces and no numbered bags!! Ok it was kinda fun sifting for hours through a mountian of bricks saying, they didn't give me that piece!! Only to find 1 hour later they did YAHHHHHY!!!! I like that the houses can be displayed open or closed!! The waterwheel on the blacksmiths shop actually drives a hammer on the inside!! That inturn hits a sword on a forge!! really cool! All in all this is a really cool set, with a little imagination it can be the center of your castle set universe!! I have it on baseplates for display with the king riding by from the castle on his battle chariot, some dwarfs buying flowers at the market!! some dwarfs and knights getting weapons from the blacksmith An Indian riding bareback on his painted steed!! not castle but cool. Some soldiers enjoying some turkey and cheese! with whine straight from the lego barrel included with tap!! Yeah I can't see anything but 5 stars for this set!! Great Price Free 2day shipping!! Thank you Amazon!!!

Holy COW!!! there are a lot of tiny parts here. and a lot more then just mini FIGURES. there are ducks and roosters and a couple ox and a horse. they pretty much thought of everything for a village with a market square. this looks a lot like a smaller version of my home town farmers market.
there is a blacksmith here too to make the weapons to sell to the guards. a working water wheel to help the smithy and in the center of town is a giant tree!!! they have thought of everything here, right down to the posies, and carrots to feed the horse. there is more color here then the grand carrosel and it is more durable then it too. this isn't QUITE my favorite lego set (the imperial flagship) but it is up there in the top five. i will have to look into more of the castle sets

My son got this for his 9th birthday. He is a huge lego fan and this is the biggest set I have purchased for him so far. It took him about 6 hours to build this one and he is really proud of it. He says it has the best accessories ever, he is really into all of the special little pieces always included with the lego sets. Definitely a good purchase for the money and it arrived just in time.

Buy this before it disappears. This set is so nice. The buildings have a very nice style and there are so many extras to make the display very entertaining. I loved it so much, I bought a 2nd one. I ordered some red pieces from Bricklink so I could build the blue building as a dark red building.
The bags are not numbered, so you will need to take some time sorting them before you start building, but I always enjoy that part. It is nice to appreciate the unique pieces before they become part of the build. Each of the buildings opens up so you can display them closed for a more compact display or open for a more spread out display. And ... lots of different mini figures. This is an older Lego set, so if you are on the fence, do not think about it too long ... you may lose your chance at a great set with lots of pieces for such a value.

I received this as a Christmas present because I've always been a fan of the Lego Castle sets, at one time owning many of the original "Knights" sets and Lego-women and men figurines. But as a little tyke, I threw my toys around and usually separated pieces from sets and combined them with others to make godless monstrosities that I'd play with in the bath tub. And then I just flat out lost most of those sets because I was very irresponsible at the age of 7. Now as a 22-year-old man-child, I can appreciate great Lego sets, like the Star Wars Death Star, to name one.
This set was comprised of many small pieces, separated by size, which left it confusing to search for the right piece among building pieces from different instructions. I started on book one, and most of the pieces it asked for were in bags with pieces for book two, which left me searching for one specific piece for uhh..maybe? an hour! I finally had to organize pieces by color and shape (4+ long blocks, red in this pile, 3-2 block pieces, red, and many other colors-following, these separate piles) until I was able to really start on the construction. I guess I'm spoiled by the Lego sets that come organized by what section of the whole construction you are doing (numbering on the bags) where only these pieces from this portion of the construction are in this bag and as follows. A little discourteous that Lego can't follow one piece-organization technique... This set is very durable on the upside, just as long as you're handling the final product. The individual bags and combination of pieces in these bags were a nuisance. I, was thankfully, able to transport the final product down to my basement without it falling apart, so the buildings and mercantile stands all have a sturdy design. And the set finished looks extraordinary as a set piece for a room or various other methods for display. You also get quite a few limited edition characters, like the squire and the two lovely lady figurines. Even livestock like chickens, a crow - which isn't livestock, neither is the chickens - and cows! Overall a great set, just a hassle to put together, even so more than the kingdom set.

Wow, this is a great LEGO set. We have LEGO® Kingdoms King's Castle 7946 and many of the other Kingdom sets so this fits right in with the theme/era.
This took quite awhile to put together since there is a bunch of mini pieces (vendor booths, carts, etc.) and two, two-story buildings. The buildings are hinged so that when they are open, they look like double storefronts (like the picture on the box) but when they are closed, they are two smaller buildings. There are plenty of details inside each building including a water wheel that turns a mallet inside the blacksmith shop. There is a bed, a "beer" keg, drinking glasses, a vanity with a brush and bottle, a table with a holiday meal of turkey, butter, and other miniatures, a horse stable with carrots, barrels with products for sale like fish. Additional details include flowers, a tree with flowers, oxen, three birds, a white horse and a treasure chest with gold money. There were some places that were difficult to get enough tension for the pieces to stay together. The tree is shaky and the roof on one of the buildings was difficult, not to build but to keep together. There are 8 mini figures from ladies to guards. Tons of details and fun to assemble. A worthwhile set to add to any LEGO Castle set.

I've been buying a fair amount of Lego sets in the last year for my son, but when I saw the Medieval Market Village set at the local Lego Store, I knew I had to have that one for myself. I loved the Lego castle sets as a kid in the `80s, and this set brought back memories. Besides that, it just looks amazing, with tons of detail elements and some neat accessories. The main components are the two buildings - a stable/blacksmith's forge and a tavern/inn. These buildings can close or open depending on how you want to display them. There are also external elements like livestock, a horse cart, a food vendor's stall and eight minifigures (two knights, a child, a blacksmith, two "male peasants" and two "female peasants").
Complexity: There are 1601 pieces in this set, making it the largest set I've taken on (so far). Unlike newer sets, the bags aren't numbered, so you pretty much have to dump all of them out and sort them (or not, depending on your personality). Just assembling the minifigures took a fair amount of time, as their elements were scattered throughout the various bags. It took just under five hours to assemble everything, and that's with some interruptions. My wife was kind enough to sort the pieces while I was assembling the external elements (tree, horse cart, etc.), which cut down the assembly time. Playability: Obviously I bought this as a display piece, but my son got to play with it a bit (OK, so did I), and it's an awful lot of fun. I could see countless story ideas that incorporate this set and its minifigures. I'm already planning an expansion to the ground floor of the tavern to allow for some bar brawls. At a hundred bucks this was a pricy set, but I definitely feel like I got my money's worth. The Medieval Market Village is one of the best Lego sets I've seen, and makes a great display piece or addition to your Kingdoms/Castles collection. I suppose buying this makes me an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego). I can live with that.

Back in the 1980s, I was (a) rather smaller than I am today, and (b) totally obsessed with LEGO. I especially loved the medieval-themed LEGO sets, because knights are cool and I have a fondness for history. But even then, it bothered me that the medieval LEGO sets almost always consisted of castles, castles, and more castles (with the occasional catapult thrown in for good measure). I longed to build a huge medieval *village* for all these castles to protect; and here, a mere 30 years too late, is the village set that I craved as a child.
Well, I guess it's a bit much to call this set a whole village's worth of LEGO. It consists of a tavern, a blacksmith's shop/stable, and a food vendor, so it's really more like a town square. But the buildings are wonderfully detailed and colorful, and if you arrange them carefully you can create the impression of a vibrant community. It helps that the set comes with a fairly generous compliment of LEGO minifigures and animals, including some very peculiar chickens. (Almost unbelievably, it also comes with what appear to be two LEGO "turds," which you're supposed to put on the floor of the stable!) Building the set will be challenging for LEGO newcomers as there are a lot of pieces, many of them teeny-tiny. As is typical of LEGO, the pieces come in various bags that are not numbered or arranged in any kind of order; you'll need to open all the bags right away, dump their contents in piles, and hunt from pile to pile for the pieces you need at each step. This approach may annoy some people, but for me it's part of the fun and challenge of building a LEGO set. In the final analysis, I think this is one of the best LEGO products out there. It has a level of detail and "class" that's missing from simpler sets, though it's perhaps not quite as nice as the expensive city sets like the Corner Cafe and the LEGO Emporium. Since LEGO sets have a tendency to drop out of circulation (and increase in price), I'd recommend picking this up ASAP if you're interested; and Amazon's current price of around $100 is indeed pretty good (I paid about $10 more for this at the LEGO store in Rockefeller Center).

I grew up playing Legos with my brothers and sisters and we all had the best time. As kids we would have died to have an amazing set like this one. A beautiful set with the ability to make a realistic medieval village. Great toy! Would make a great gift!
