ONLY the minifig is good…
on November 2, 2013
“LEGENDS of CHIMA” is my favourite theme in LEGO, primarily because of the minifigs. And that is the main reason why I bought this set.
The “Furty” minifig is just…BEAUTIFUL!! A must-have for a Chima/LEGO fan. The light-brown color looks very good. The detailing on the body is nice. The headpiece is the best part! The printing on the headpiece is very nice and the brown and white colors make it even more pretty! This minifig has a tail. My only complaint here is that the tail is attached to the body…through the neck!! When you look from the side, you get the feel as if a part of tail is floating in air! Even when you look from the front, you can easily make out that there’s something around the neck. I’m bit disappointed with LEGO on this. They could have designed a better way to fit the tail to the body. In fact, they could have just attached it to the bottom of the torso.
Another reason I’m not happy with minifig is that it looks EXACTLY like the Skinnet, the skunk, minifig..except for the color and some minor differences on the face/headpiece. Since when do a fox and a skunk look alike???
This set contains an assembled weapon, which is not that great. Since weapons are small pieces, I sincerely feel that LEGO should make unique weapons, from single-mold, rather than making assembled weapons. That way even the weapon would look good and the buyers/customers wouldn’t have to get sick of seeing the same weapon again and again.
The transparent speedor looks good…but then I’ve never liked speedors from the beginning. There’s a major flaw in the Speedor design. There’s just a big heavy wheel in the front side, nothing heavy at the back to keep the balance. Many a times, the speedor wobbles when it moves. At least two small wheels at the back would have made the speedor go smoother. (Doubt if LEGO would ever change the current design though). It’s difficult to do even a simple thing with the speedor, like , for example, going up a ramp. Many a times, the ramp itself gets knocked around. This set doesn’t have a ramp though. But still, the obstacle course for this speedor set is quite difficult. The objective is make the speedor jump as high as you can. The speedor has to jump over a stick-like thing (you can adjust the height of this). Everytime I tried, the speedor hardly jumps high and always used to hit the structure. Lot more trials and even the minifig may get damaged. I’m an adult and I struggled to complete the objective of this speedor and failed. Don’t know how a kid will enjoy this.
Never been a fan of the card-game that comes with the speedor. Doubt if even the kids enjoy the card-game. The Chi crystals are nice. The character-pictures on the cards are ok.
In the end, I would say (again) that the ONLY good thing in this set is the Furty minifig..and if you can get it on eBay at a good deal, then you can easily skip buying this set.
