5.0 out of 5 stars Great little, workable toy, October 27, 2007

This truck unit comes with several pieces of equipment that should keep a fire-fighting kid happy. It includes a hose, a removable saw and a trailer that can be detached. It reminds me more of a firefighting unit you might see in a rural area, rather than a city. If your child is small, he or she may have trouble attaching some of the small pieces to the trailer, or placing them in the hands of the fireman that comes with this. Overall, it's a great little set.
But beware this unit will probably make your kid want more fire units. The new fire station out this year from Lego is a dandy, and this little unit will only add to the fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great starter set, May 18, 2010
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGO City Off Road Fire Rescue (7942) (Toy)
My son is a big fan of fire and rescue vehicles, so we decided to give the LEGO City Off Road Fire Rescue set a try as his first "big kid" LEGO set. The set has 130 pieces and when completed includes a truck, trailer, a fully-equipped firefighter and related gear.

Complexity: My son is only 4, so I was the one building this set. The box says it's for ages 5-10 so I'm relieved I was able to complete it without much trouble! My son was able to assemble simple elements like the wheels and some of the decorative external pieces. He also had a blast assembling the firefighter and changing out its various tools and equipment.

Playability: Once assembled, this is a pretty durable vehicle. I love the folding tailgates, fire hose that spools in and out (manually) and the storage bins on the trailer. It survived a pretty thorough "product testing" by my son. My only complaint is that unlike most LEGO vehicles I've encountered, this truck doesn't have doors that open. If you want to get the firefighter in and out of the truck, you have to remove the roof, which often means dislodging some of the pieces the roof is attached to, if not the whole windshield section. I may scour through my old LEGO collection (what's left of it) to see if there are movable doors I can use here.

Overall I was quite pleased with this introductory set, as was my son. Hopefully this will be the first of many LEGO sets we build together.

My 12yr old daughter asked for a few lego mini sets for Christmas, she was so excited and just focused on building and creating
. Watching her, reminded me of my childhood and growing up with essentially the same exact toys. Legos surrounded me many a Christmas morning. Thank you for the ageless smiles.

I was very excited when I saw this on amazon. I thought it would be a cute gift and would make some laughs. It was easy to put together just like it should and everything. Although I bought it for an adult, it still is something he enjoys.

I have two of these little firetrucks they make up the backbone of my firefighting force. playability wise this set is great the truck is really nice, and the trailer comes with a ton of tools (axes, a hose, oxygen tanks, etc.) to play with. I think the value for money is great due to the great playability and as said milloins of tools.
Now on to the actual set...
VEHICLE:
This is just a simple little red tuck you get of course the drivers wheel seat were they can sit, and the back of the truck has room for you to put a minifigure and some tools. My favorite lego truck.
TRAILER:
This to me seems like the main part of the set it has all of the essential tools a fire fighter needs like the hose, gas mask, fire extinguisher, axe, saw, and light. the saw, axe, and light come on a little tray that slides out once you open the back of the trailer. Its a nice part of the set.
MINIFIGURE:
the minifigure is just a normal lego fireman his facial features are a smiley face wearing the reflective sunglasses,he also has the shiny hat which means he is a chief.
PROS,CONS,RATING
PROS:
truck is cool
many tools
chief fireman
pretty cheap
CONS:
need to open roof to put minifigure in car
trailer falls apart sometimes
RATING:
Fun Factor: 5/5
Educational Value: 5/4
Value of money: 5/5
Durability: 5/4
overall: 5/5
This a great set pick it up when you can.

I bought this for my nephew. He seemed to enjoy it and from my perspective, he got a (relatively, for LEGO) decent number of interesting pieces for his uncle's dollars.
