5.0 out of 5 stars A spectacular and massive Lego set for any town October 4, 2012
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a massive set. Massive! Carrying out of the Lego store was a bit of a chore, but my was it worth it! My wife and I picked this up at our nearest Lego store last weekend and had a blast building it together. Part of the Lego Modular Buildings, the building is designed more for its size and aesthetic appeal thn as a gimmick filled playset for kids, but I imagine anyone with a passion for Lego and enough of an attention span to build this will enjoy it. The set is quite huge, taking the title from the Haunted House as the largest Lego set I own. While there are lots of great reviews of this set out there, I'll give you some of my thoughts on this set.

The Facts:
# of Pieces: 2766
Minifigures: A Bride, Groom, Mayor, Press Photographer, Secretary, Janitor, male child, female child.

The Positives:

*Can I say the size of the set again? This thng is really, really large and solid. It takes quite some time to build (I worked on it for probably around 8-10 hours on and off)so if you enjoy building the setsm, you'll love this. It was a pretty fun build with some neat design work and some unusual building techniques from time to time.

*While some folks are commenting that the interior is rather bland, I was pretty pleased with it. The first floor has a business office with a computer and keyboard, lots of drawers, and a plant, a town hall with a podium and a town crest, a really nice tiled entryway, and a neat bust outside of the elevator.

*The second floor has the mayor's office with a reception area, balcony, wall paintings, and lamps. The third floor is a conference room with a table and plenty of seats.

*The exterior of the building has some beautiful design work to give the building columns, tall windows, and an amazing clocktower.

*The working elevator is quite fun and makes everything realistically accessible. There's even a ladder at the top of the elevator shaft to allow roof access.

*You get quite a few minifigures with the set and some fun accessories: a popsicle, broom, money, magnifying glass, and a neat camera.

Negatives:

*The first floor has very high walls, making it difficult for larger hands to get in and position minifigures. The 2nd and 3rd floors are fine, but the first floor gives me trouble.

* The sides of the building are bland. I know that this is because these buildings are intended to attach to other modular buildings on the sides, but if you only have one or two modulars, you end up with a lot of dead space.

*I wish the people had some more interesting expressions, but they all have the classic Lego smiley face. Maybe its to give these sets a nostalgic feel, but I'd like a few varying expressions for my minifigures. Easily fixed if you have lots of pieces lying around, however.

Overall: Lego continues to outdo themselves, and I'm excited to see what comes next. If you or the person you are shopping for really loves building realistic Lego creations, this would be a fantastic set to pick up. If you're more interested in more action oriented sets like Ninjago, you might want to look somewhere else. My Lego setup is a large haunted region with a graveyard, haunted woods, a mass of old castles, and a spooky, somewhat run down town. I've managed to do a little augmentation of this set, and have future plans, but I figured a spooky old town hall with a clock tower made sense for me. I'm sure if you have a normal Lego city, you'll have even more uses for this beautiful set!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful addition to my Lego collection. March 4, 2013

I have to totally disagree with the reviewer that said this set is way overpriced. Yes, this set is expensive but I think it is totally in line with what Lego prices are today. This is the biggest set I have gotten, its larger size justifies the $50 price increase from the other two Lego Modular Buildings I own, the LEGO Creator Fire Brigade 10197 and LEGO Creator Grand Emporium 10211, which both MSRP at $150. The Town Hall has 2766 pieces and 8 minifigures, the Grand Emporium has 2182 pieces and 7 minifigures and the Fire Brigade has 2231 pieces and 4 minifigues, the Town Hall as almost 25% more pieces than the Brigade and but the price went up less than 25%.

I am not saying I didn't get this on sale, I just think that the $199 suggested price is on par with how much Lego's cost.

I am excited about expanding my modular buildings collection and getting the Palace Cinema, which just came out, and I still have not gotten the LEGO Creator Pet Shop 10218 either, I am still sad I missed out on the Green Grocer.

The LEGO Town Hall is a must have for the LEGO enthusiast in your house.

My daughter wanted this set REALLY bad, and she received it for her birthday.

She really liked the design, and had a lot of fun putting it together (in 2 days.... speed builder!)
