I am a long time fan of LEGO. As a kid, I was never so much interested in following the instructions as I was in making up my own designs. I spent endless creative hours building my own custom jet planes, rockets, space stations, and moon rovers. My son will be three this summer, and from the day he was born I've been anticipating the moment when he would finally grasp the magic of LEGO toys for himself. He's had a sizable LEGO Duplo collection for over a year now and has developed the fine motor skills to assemble them well enough, but has just never seemed to catch on to the excitement of building his own custom creations--until now.

When I saw this set, I knew it would be just the thing to finally spark the creativity in my son. What's brilliant about this set is that it manages to find a perfect middle ground between those big buckets of random bricks that don't offer a lot of direction (see LEGO DUPLO Bricks & More Deluxe Brick Box 5507) and traditional LEGO sets that typically contain a high number of odd specific pieces that can really only combine to make one thing well (see LEGO DUPLO Cars Big Bentley 5828). This set, by contrast, has a definite theme and offers lots of direction, but is comprised of 40 pieces optimally selected to be mixed and matched, combined and re-combined into as many widely different combinations as possible. LEGO has definitely hit a sweet spot here for getting kids' creative juices flowing.

So this was an "insta-buy" for me. My kid loves cars and trucks, so right away he fell in love with the tow truck, dump truck, tanker truck, police car and race car in this set. At first I thought only having three sets of wheels would hamper him, but that's actually turned out to be a good thing since it forces him to tear apart one vehicle whenever he wants to build a new one, which encourages him to see each vehicle as a temporary creation. We've built a few of his favorite vehicles several times and he's caught on to the idea that he can always rebuild them, so there's no real downside to tearing them apart. He loves pulling out the included "inspiration" poster and thinking over what he wants to build next (it's made of rather thin paper, so we had to laminate it to keep him from obliterating it). He loves playing with different color combinations and has even started building his own custom vehicles. I love seeing the joy on his face as he finishes building a tow truck or a dump truck with no help from me. He finally *gets it*, and I think I'm even happier about it than he is. *Proud papa!*

For $20 this set is *well* worth the price. Even though I think the small number of pieces has its upside, I'm seriously considering buying a second one of these sets. Now that he's really caught on, I think it would be nice for him to have a second engine block, a second set of emergency lights, more sets of wheels, etc. (One of his favorite things to build right now is a tractor trailer truck which takes up two sets of wheels by itself, and he quickly runs out of options when he does that.) Why are you still reading this?! Buy this for a two-year-old near you. I'm serious.

We love Duplos and have two large under-bed boxes full of them. My baby boy just had his first birthday, so I was looking for a gift for him. This one caught my eye, even though we have so many already. After opening this and playing with it, I just had to come leave a review - this is an a very well thought out Duplo set. It comes with an amazing variety of pieces that work together in some really neat ways. My one year old is a little young for it of course, but he has fun pushing around the cars his sisters create for him. They've come up with many different unique ones. There are more pieces than shown in some of the photos - look around the bottom of the box for more examples of the different vehicles you can make. We love Duplos, and this is maybe one of the best sets we've had yet! (Tip - it comes with a one page poster of vehicle ideas. I'm planning to cut it up and laminate it so that we have little cards with the various ideas on them, to make it last longer.)

Our son just turned 3. This toy keeps him busy for a long time, its so creative, it even has a page full of various types of trucks you can make from the blocks. This is an awesome toy. I might also get the Lego duplo 10518 construction trucks one for him!

My three-year-old grandson loves this because the pieces are large enough that he can quickly build a car and retain his attention. Also there are so many configurations on what he can build - great for creativity. Great toy for a three year old.

I grew up with Legos and have always considered them the best, most educational, and most fun toys. I was looking forward to the day when I would be able to share the joy of playing with Legos with my own children, and this day has finally come. (Well almost - my son is still a bit too young to appreciate them, but still.) This creative cars set is ideal for little boys as it combines their usual proclivity to play with cars, as well as the usual joys of Legos. The Duplo set is large, and with a few notable exceptions all bricks do not pose much of a chocking hazard for the smallest infants. The set comes with a variety of Duplo bricks, and you can construct an almost endless variety of small toy cars, as well as a few accessories. (Gas station for instance.) Kids will love it, and many of the adults will have an opportunity to relive their most cherished childhood memories.

My son loves Lego Duplo so it made sense to add some cars to his collection. The set comes with three wheel-bases in blue, green, and red plus additional parts. Most parts are non-standard and can not be used in other Lego constructions easily. However, you can mix and match them to make different cars.

Oh! More importantly... there's a hook part in set which is a safety/choking hazard for a someone less than 2-year-old but the box says 1.5-3 year old. Tsk tsk Lego! It immediately disappeared until my son is old enough :) and I deducted a star because of that.

Pros:
Nice cars
High quality (like all other legos we had)

Cons:
Hook is a safety hazard! (very important)
Wheeled bases and most parts seem non-standard (you cannot use it to build other things)

I got this for my grandson's 6th birthday. I also got him a set of small legos, but he plays much more with the Duplo set. I think he will grow into the regular legos, but he prefers the Duplo now.

My 18 mo old grandson is nuts about cars and Duplo blocks. He (& his Dad) love this set. This is the perfect combination.

It upsets me to see that Target has this same product for 1/2 the price or $15.99 as an in store purchase. Toys R Us sells it for $19.00. I use amazon quite a bit and don't like the thought of being ripped off. What is the use of paying for prime when you really aren't getting a deal at all? I'm extremely disappointed and will definitely do more comparison shopping before ordering from amazon in the future!

I bought this for my grandson who has a touch of Autism. He just loves this Lego Duplo set. The word "creative" in the product title is apropos indeed. He spends hours creating and changing all his little cars. Good work Lego team.
