I am stingy with stars or I would give this set five. It has only been played with twice so far so I'm not sure about durability but it seems good and sturdy in keeping with Legos overall. This set works well for both my 2-1/2 and 4 year old grandsons. Filling the diesel engine with gas is a favorite activity (sound effect) but the crane, conveyor belt,and truck provide for loading/unloading play as well. The sound effects (gas pump and engine only) are not loud or obnoxious and just add an additional sensory element. It is battery-operated but only requires 3- AA and has a simple on/off button on top of the engine. Again, this aspect doesn't detract from play value since the other elements are all hand-operated. This set would seem appropriate to a fairly wide age range, first to be used after assembly by someone older and then for construction by the child him or herself.
