First off- this set costs $79.99 as of the date of this review. Lego sells this set directly and exclusively to those enrolled in their (free) "Lego VIP" program. The VIP program is basically just a club card. Anyone else selling this set, such as sellers on Amazon, are charging a premium on top of the Lego price, bringing the price of this set to $100 or more.

Save yourself $20-30 and get this from lego's website or physical stores. They will probably produce the set until the end of 2013.

This set has a LOT of very small pieces. It takes a long time to build considering the finished product's compact size. Overall, this is one of the most fun and satisfying builds I have ever done.

The designers packed a lot of detail into each building. The five buildings are modelled after full size, large lego sets which themselves have a lot of detail. Experienced builders will really enjoy this set, because there are many unorthodox building techniques, and unique usage of pieces. There are a number of rare pieces in this set as well. Additionally, there are a significant number of extra pieces (4-6 per each of the 5 buildings)

Once completed, the five buildings can be rearranged and attached to form a number of different configurations. They look great on a shelf, and although there isn't really any playability to this set... the highly detailed buildings are impressive.

Overall, I would highly recommend this set.

Call me crazy, but I've never had so much fun building a Lego set. I've never built the Taj Mahal or UCS Millenium Falcon, so take this with my personal experience. in mind. This set is incredible! It has incredible value in terms of build time, it looks fantastic when it's completed, and there are a bunch of little techniques you'll pick up along the way to use in your own creations. Another plus to me is that it's very, very small. One can only house so many Lego Death Stars in their house!

So much is possible even at this scale in terms of Lego building. I really hope Lego brings out more sets at this scale. And it's under $100! Amazing in every sense!

I've put together lots of Lego sets aimed at an older audience, including some from the architecture and full-size modular line, and this mini-modular set is wonderful and stands apart for several reasons:

- The box and marketing make it clear that these are smaller models, but what it doesn't make clear is that they are microbuilds. Each building has a 8x8 footprint and most of the pieces are 1x1 plates/tiles. The finished product looks really amazing because of its size and detailing, and looks great as decoration on your desk or shelf.

- This set employs a variety of advanced and clever building techniques: studs not showing, sideways building, construction using clips rather than studs, and creative use of components to create the banner curtains, etc. It's a great set to learn some of these advanced techniques and you will want to keep the instructions around for reference.

- You get 5 different buildings at the end that can be configured in multiple ways. And you also get enough parts to try putting together your own mini-modular if you want.

- Each building's parts are in its own numbered bag, so that reduced the frustration of searching for parts in a large pile.

- With regular Lego sets, you eventually feel a squeeze from lack of space. The normal-size modulars are huge. These mini-modulars made me realize I could still have a lot of fun with Legos, with advanced building techniques, without it taking over an entire room.

I'll start with my disclaimer: I love microbuilds, and I've always been a fan of the full-size modular sets. This set caters to my interests pretty heavily.

But the thing is, it's just all-around awesome. It's totally awesome to build. It takes some patience because it's all small pieces that you're working with. But there are tons of clever little details, and the end-result is a great display piece. It fits on a bookshelf comfortably and really adds some panache!

This set might be a bit tricky for some younger builders because it's intricate, but definitely a great set in terms of design, final result, and how fun it is to build. Again: so many clever tricks during the build process.

As other reviewers have said, buy this directly from Lego's website. It's an exclusive, and costs less (even accounting for shipping) when you do that.

This was a fun purchase. It is exclusive from The Lego Group if you are in their VIP program. Anyone selling it on here will be inflating the price and you will not receive any VIP points for the purchase. If you are okay with that, I would highly recommend purchasing this set. It is a mini-scale version of the first five modular/creator buildings from 2007 until 2010. When you complete these minis you will appreciate the large scale versions even more. More than likely they will continue to release these as long as they release the larger scaled versions.

The price to piece ratio is quite nice, even though they are mostly small pieces. You will pick up some interesting ways to build in small scale. Once completed, they are very fun to display and look at. Not a lot of play value here, but most Modulars are built for display anyway.

You will not be disappointed with this set. I am very pleased with my purchase. I will continue to buy the mini versions as long as they are available.
