Imagination at play,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LEGO Fun With Building Tub (Toy)
The original premise behind Legos and other open ended construction toys was that there was no prescribed, or proscribed, way of using them. So how come when I want to buy Legos all I find anymore are sets to make specific items? This was the only one available which wasn't like that and I raised my hands and shouted, "Hallelujah!" It's great, various aged kids can play with it and not get all frustrated that they can't make what it's supposed to make. It does have an idea book but you can throw that away.

Good Value but You'll Want More,

I bought this for our five year old, and he really enjoys playing with them. I like this generic collection of mult-purpose bricks better than the sets that are designed to build one unique item. For the price, you really get a lot of stuff including two mini figures and some translucent blocks. On the down side, there are a lot of the smaller bricks (1 x 2 and 1 x 1), but it is still a good value. After playing with this for a few days I found that my son wanted plates, bricks (2 x 4 and 2 X 8), and wheels to make cars. I went to lego dot com where I was able to buy these specific things. Also, if you want to find some odd parts from old sets (even going back to the 1970s) try bricklink dot com.
In summary, buy this set first from Amazon and then go to lego dot com to buy wheels, bricks and plates and go to bricklink dot com to buy specific parts.

My son will sit for hours and play with any of the legos toys. They only compare to his K'nex. He loves to build entire hotels and describes the rooms for me as he does so. He also has been known to make maps using the flat square piece that you can buy seperately to build up on. It is definitally worth while to go for both. He is very creative with them and the tubs they come in make for easy pick up and storage. :)
