4.0 out of 5 stars The sorting hat
This set is small but I am glad Lego made it. This is the smallest set in the Harry Potter collection but without you would be missing a few things. This set includes Hedwig, sorting hat, tourches x2,goblets x2, Harry and a scroll. Although the whole collection includes a million Harrys, this Harry is in Hogwarts uniform instead of Griffindor uniform. You also know that...

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but passed over
Once you put this together, what exactly do you do with it? My kids liked it, but forgot about it 2 days later.

But you can at least use the pieces for something else. However, as Legos go, it is inexpensive[*],and makes a decent stocking stuffer.

[* Apparently the price of this item went way up since I first wrote this. My review applies to a...

4.0 out of 5 stars The sorting hat, November 30, 2001

This set is small but I am glad Lego made it. This is the smallest set in the Harry Potter collection but without you would be missing a few things. This set includes Hedwig, sorting hat, tourches x2,goblets x2, Harry and a scroll. Although the whole collection includes a million Harrys, this Harry is in Hogwarts uniform instead of Griffindor uniform. You also know that there are a million Griffindor uniforms so it s nice to have a change. The sorting hat goes right on Harry as he sits/stands on a rotating stool. If you look at the picture, you see the little disk with all the 4 houses' emblems that you can spin, which ever the pointer points to is your house. I can't garentee Harry will always land on Griffindor because it does land on Slytherin once in a while but you can spin it until it does. Overall its fun so get them while Amazon has them ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars Not all that much to it, July 11, 2002

Sorting Hat is a great little set. It's outfitted with Harry, the hat, and some sort of wheel that you turn to decide where Harry's gonna go. Sometimes I think the thing's rigged because it always seems to land on Gryffindor. In the Times when I don't get the big G, I like to help it land on Slytherin. When I'm not in a Harry Potter mood, I have Harry play Wheel of Fortune with it and pretend each house is worth a different sum of money.
All-in-all, sorting hat is a nice little set with not a lot to do, but still fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars The small set that started it all, June 16, 2003

This was one of the first sets I got for christmas two years ago (along with Flying Lessons). It's very small and inexpensive, but it got me addicted to the lego sets. You can sort all of your lego characters into different houses again and again until you're satisfied with the result. You can set it up in all kinds of ways (like with a vertical spinning wheel) and even rig it to always pick a certain house! (with a vertical wheel, put any lego on the back of the house you want!) A small but enjoyable addition to any lego collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sorting Hat---#4701---48 pcs, March 24, 2002

Sorting hat? I don't think so. The most important piece out of the 48 pieces is the black wizard hat. It looks like that hats that come out in the sets of Diagon Alley shops, and House of Gryffindor! The hat doesn't even have a face, mouth, patches, or an signs that it is old and worn out! The stool is a bit pathetic as well. And what's up with the wheel of fortune sort of thingy that chooses your house! I mean sure it is cool, but that didn't come out in the stories! I guess if YOU want to be sorted, then you can do that, but we all know Harry is going to...("Not Slytherin, not Slytherin...Not Slytherin, eh?...Well if your sure, better be...GRYFFINDOR!") I like the Harry Potter figure cause he is wearing the Hogwarts uniform and not the Gryffindor one. The uniform has the Hogwarts crest. The set includes Hedwig, two yellow goblets, to torches, and just the base under the stool and spinning wheel with the house symbols: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. This set can be put up in 8-10 minutes with the easy-to-follow picture instuctions. All in all, the set is cool, but honestly, it could be better.

Ok I have always been a clueless Lego person but my seven year old godson and I had a blast putting this together. He loves all things Harry Potter so it made for a great gift. I think these Lego groups are awesome cause you know what it is supposed to look like when you are done. It is so much better than just getting a tub of Lego's.

The hat is cool, although it looks like a witch's hat rather than the sorting hat. Harry has to remove his hair and then pull the hat down over his eyes. I took the set apart and added the pieces to my castle. Evil twin Harry in the black hat and black cape versus Good Harry with the trendy purple cape makes for exciting duels.
