I agree with some of the reviewers on here: this game is BORING. All you do is walk around the island doing pointless stuff that doesn't help you get farther in the game. And there are annoying lego people who keep getting in your way, talking to you and dismantling themselves. Game "Lego Island" by Mindscape, 1997, original does come with a configuration program before the game loads so that it does, in fact, run with Windows XP. Ages 6-12, but 4 year old kids that know how to use a mouse and a joystick have been seen using both (i.e., racing buy walking lego-people while clicking on their heads with the mose to turn their hats into flowers and race car helmets.) You visit rooms to bulid pre-set vehicles that kids have to cycle through parts shelves and drag on to the correct place. Legos can be colored, should is snappy, and my only beef is that there is no give in the movement. You go too far to one side of the road and your car just stops, no chance to travel onto the grass or the water. Ramps and inclindes snap the screen back in place very quickly. Good struts, or old game. There is enough to explore to give kids about a week of play now a days, but if they can read and are interested there is a lot of hidden easter eggs that will keep them busy.

Love this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This game is full of surprises. That racetrack is crazy, but I like it. Build a red racecar, and you'll have good turning and speed. On most XP computers, it'll stop working. If you go to the jail as Pepper, the Brickster will say "hey Pepper, read this, pppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp(spit)."

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, October 14, 2005
A Kid's Review

Ive known LEGO for years and I love on this game that the people sometimes are having conversations as you pass them. You get to go in an elevator and race a boat and a car. One lady in the boat race says:"I'm stoked and ready to smoke!". You also get to drive an ambulance to and from 3 places-the hospital,Moma&Papa's pizza place and the police station. On the mountain, there is a dirt path that is sort of hard to navigate with a larger vehicle such as an ATV. The motorcycle can go up to 80mph. the race car can go 110mph.This game rocks and I totally recomend it and it can be nice and cheap in some places and it is quite simple because it was made in 1997. Because brickster is so rude I don't go near him. Drive a racecar. Drive a boat thru a race. build a helicopter. explore the island. Deliver pizza and stuff. build up to 10 vehicles. ride a 70mph skateboard. fly. avoide obsticles. meet nice people. challange them to friendly compititions. be Pepper,Mama,Papa,Loura or Nick. Meet the Inf@m@tic. help a racecar. On this game there is just so much to do. BUY IT TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow What Fun, April 5, 2002

I got Lego Island for my birthday from a friend. It looked like one of those 'I don't know what to get her' presents. I tried it out, I was hooked. When I beat the game I started a new one under a different name. It is fun being Pepper, Mama Brickolini, Papa Brickolini, Laura, or Nick. Even my brother loves it. We are going to get Lego Island 2 soon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kinda boring, April 21, 2003

I agree with some of the reviewers on here: this game is BORING. All you do is walk around the island doing pointless stuff that doesn't help you get farther in the game. And there are annoying lego people who keep getting in your way, talking to you and dismantling themselves. There is a bug(at least with us): When you build a vehicle, you have to click in the EXACT right spot to pick up a piece. And the dumb annoying lego guy ALWAYS gets in your way when you're trying to click on the right spot.
To "win" the game, you have to on purpose set the Brickster loose, than catch him again, then everyone calls you a "hero". There are no challenging things to do. What a pointless idea.
The graphics are okay, but there was this on time when the street was colored like the ocean and the grass was colored like the street. Lego Island 2 is MUCH better.

The controls of this game are suspect at best. To click on an object you must find one specific spot on the item, which isn't very large, and is very difficult to find. Extremely frustrating for adults as well as children.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece For All Time, February 24, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGO Island (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
I know alot of people say "this game is boring", or "this game is stupid", the thing is they overlook the entire point of this game. To have fun, and just run around, talk to the islanders etc.
The games humor IMO is great, though you'd only get it if you listen to the radio, or talk the islanders alot.
Also, the story may not be complex but it is amusing, and fairly well thought out; even though at times it may seem overly childish.
Now my favorite part of the game is the soundtrack.
The songs in this game are FANTASTIC, ranging from rock, to classical etc.
The game has a large number of themes for different parts of the Island or different events. The fact that they went the extra mile to add all the themes they did is awesome.
Again though, alot of things you won't hear unless you listen to the radio.
The amount of dialog and audio in this game for the space it takes is INSANE, it would take quite awhile to hear EVERYTHING the Islanders' have to say.
This game has so many small things that were breakthrough back then, although they aren't anything special today.

If you overlook the childish nature of the game(since it was intended for kids) and look at the entire framework, you'll see a masterpiece.
The People who made this game should get MUCH for credit than they do now, the game was popular when it was first released but now is pretty much an old PC game that nobody wants to play.

But I do, and I think it's GREAT.
One of my favorite games.

Although the game takes a little time to complete its fun to go around the island and listen to what the islanders have to say, and to me its still fun to beat the game, i've already beat it like 30 timesm, then I also play around with debug mode which is fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME GAME!!!!! BUY NOW!!!!!, September 9, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: LEGO Island (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
This game rules! I used to have the right computer for it, but we got a new monotor that dosn't run the game! :( Anyway this game rocks the house! You can deleiver pizzas(only if your Pepper), help at the hospital, help at the gas station, go in races, and more! But if you give a pizza to the evil brickster, he esaces! And you have to catch him! It's pretty hard though. But you have to buy this game! It's a true LEGO classic!

Paul the great. :)
