5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best sets in the 2010 Kingdoms series, June 30, 2010
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGO Kingdoms Prison Tower Rescue 7947 (Toy)
The LEGO Kingdoms Prison Tower Rescue (#7947) is one of the best sets in the new Kingdoms line. It contains a diverse set of building bricks, has an eye-catching design, and a nice selection of minifigures. Initially released at a retail price of 50 dollars in the summer of 2010, it is an excellent deal for such an impressive set.

Prison Tower Rescue is a nice source of new minifigures and accessories. The set contains 5 minifigures and a horse - a Lion Army princess, a Dragon Army soldier, a Lion Army soldier, a Dragon Army knight, and a Lion Army knight. The horse is white and contains the new Lion Army unicorn armor/barding. A treasure chest, two gems, a gold nugget, and a mouse are also included.

The structure itself is a dark-toned woodland fortress for the Dragon Army. The brick colors are primarily black and brown. Green and gold accent pieces including shields and dragon-gargoyles set off the color scheme nicely. Interesting pieces include two windows, a working gate (portcullis), cauldron with flaming "oil" (a nicely done item built from four flames connected to a base), and numerous staircases.

I highly recommend this set for all LEGO enthusiasts. Especially compared to other sets in the 2010 Kingdoms line (that, unlike the earlier Castle line, have almost no fantasy elements such as trolls and dwarfs), the Prison Tower Rescue is an excellent buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Lego Kingdoms playset, December 27, 2010
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGO Kingdoms Prison Tower Rescue 7947 (Toy)
While it is not as impressive overall as the new LEGO® Kingdoms King's Castle 7946, I was very impressed by the Prison Tower Rescue set my son received for Christmas. This smaller (but still good-sized) castle is home to the "evil" Dragon Knights, and comes equipped with a prison cell, a working portcullis, a catapult and a cauldron that dumps burning pitch on invading knights. It's also decked out in Dragon Knight colors and shields. The set includes five minifigures (two Lion Knights, two Dragon Knights and the Princess), plus an armored horse.

Complexity - The set includes 365 pieces, and is designed for builders age 6 and up. Any other day I would have encouraged my son to take on most of the assembly, but it was Christmas so I took over while my son assembled and played with the minifigures and the horse. It took a little over an hour to finish the set.

Playability - The sky is the limit with this set. Sure, you're essentially building on a theme (rescuing a captive), but between the fortifications, minifigures and accessories you can let your imagination run wild. Add the LEGO® Kingdoms Prison Carriage Rescue 7949 set and the LEGO Kingdoms Mini Figure Set #7955 Wizard minifigure and you have even more variations to explore. The set is also fairly sturdy, and holds up well during play, though if you're moving it you'll want to take care not to lose the floor pieces, which aren't too secure. I don't know why they didn't go with a single base plate.

In terms of price, size and playability, the Prison Tower Rescue set is one of the best Lego sets released recently, and a brilliant addition to the Lego Kingdoms line.

Not too hard or too easy for my 7-year-old grandson to put together. Provides great opportunity for pretend play. He loves this kind of toy. I had been unable to find this set in stores so was very happy to find I could purchase it through Amazon. I received the shipment within days.

I bought this for our grandson for Christmas in 2010. He was not as old as the recommended age but he's used his imagination with his own Lego designs since he was old enough to put them together! Most of the time he puts a new Lego set together once and then mixes all the pieces with others in his storage bins. He has thousands of Lego pieces and sits for hours designing new things. This set was different; it's still together as the castle and he plays with it often! It's about time to shop for Christmas 2011 and I'll be on the lookout for something that will be compatible with this one! Lego sets are very expensive but well worth it since he enjoys them as much as he does. You would think he'd want something different but he keeps asking for more sets. A grandma doesn't mind paying that much when he spends hours on something and plays with it for weeks!

i bought this set since it seemed like a good set to start with. I got it quick and fast and it is a lot bigger than it appears i think for the price its a good cost 5 mini figs and a 365 piece castle. the only castle structure for the dragon knights a must have in my opinion. it comes with almost the same number of mini figs as the Lego kings castle just three less for 50 us dollars cheaper

5.0 out of 5 stars Great father-son activity, November 28, 2011

My five year old son had an interest in castles and princes and princesses. Some of the pieces were too small for him. Some he was able to help and he enjoyed following the directions.
I found this to be the case when I was building sets as a kid, but I would often do these sets once or a few times for simple sets, but we found this one looks great on his dresser so it stays.

We're getting the Christmas one this year so maybe we'll make a tradition of taking it apart and putting back together again each year.

You'll like this set though. Very fun to build and play with for little creative brains!
