2.0 out of 5 stars What happened here?? February 23, 2014
Platform for Display:Nintendo DS|Edition:Standard
Ever since its debut, the Lego line of games has always offered fun puzzle-platforming that breathed new life to both Legos and the franchises they touched. Whether they be on a console or handheld, fans were usually in for a good time.
So who thought it was a good idea to change up the formula for the handheld lineup of Lego titles into something so extremely stripped down?!

Instead of being the puzzle-platforming goodness we've come to expect, Lego Marvel: Universe in Peril is an isometric psuedo-3D beat 'em up. Yeah, sure, there's still Lego pieces to build in certain little areas, but they're not for puzzle solving! Pretty much throughout the adventure, you'll just be bashing down enemies and collecting cogs in very small environments. The concept does seem sound on its own, but to slap the Lego branding on it? Thanks for ruining our high expectations, Traveler's Tales.

Worse, there will indeed be times where you'll have to replay levels to obtain achievements that are REQUIRED TO MOVE ON. What a stupid design choice, and just to make the game last longer in length. I would've actually probably have given this another star if these achievements were absent or at least optional. Unfortunately, it's here and accounted for, and it hampers my experience and enjoyment with the game.

Overall, if you want a good Lego game, play pretty much anything else. Heck, play the console version of Lego Marvel, or

1.0 out of 5 stars Really Really Disappointed February 26, 2014
Platform for Display:Nintendo DS|Edition:Standard
SO I want to start off by saying that I played the PS3 version of this game first and decided that I absolutely wanted it. Unfortunately, I still don't have a PS3 and this game wasn't released for the Wii, so I got it on the DS. I'm super disappointed. Bad graphics (picture is unnecessarily blurry), bad game play (It lacks the size and depth that LEGO games have, Bad glitches (I'm absolutely SURE I walked over that stud. Let me do it ten more times before the game registers it.)

One of the best parts of LEGO games is the home world (Hogwarts, the Batcave, and THE CITY in the actual console version of this game.) The DS version doesn't have that. All it has is a list of things you have to do and no avenue for exploration at all, which is something I love in LEGO games.

That said, I LOVED the PS3 version of this game, but hated the DS version . Don't buy this. I seriously don't recommend it at all. I'm glad that one of my friends prepaid for this as my Christmas present so I wouldn't have been out $20 as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this game September 8, 2014

These Lego games are so much fun to play. Surprisingly they are challenging and have quite a bit of stuff to complete. My son has multiple games and this is probably my favorite one. When he ask for help it is hard for me to give it back. I love playing it just as much as he does.

We got his uncle to buy it for the PS3 and I guess its just as much fun on that too. But we are all superhero nerds and love this stuff.

I totally recommend for any age especially if you love Marvel. Its fun seeing the characters come to life and using their different super powers.

1.0 out of 5 stars COMPLETE RIPOFF!!! February 22, 2014
Platform for Display:Nintendo DS| Edition:Standard|Verified Purchase
Well, okay. Maybe it's not a complete ripoff, but I certainly want my money back. I am writing this review so that others will not make the same mistake as I did. This is nothing like an ordinary LEGO video game. First, there is no "Home Area" (Room of Requirement in Harry Potter, Mos Eisley Cantina in Star Wars, and the Shire in Lord of the Rings) where you select levels, access the shop, and customize your character. There is merely a title screen which lets you select levels and a shop button. There is no Character Customizer. Second, it is impossible to jump, and the levels are short, but somewhat difficult to unlock (you have to get a certain number of Gold Bricks to unlock the next area). Third, you can only have three Red Brick abilities active at one time, and if you die, you don't regenerate. You have to restart the level. I don't know what this game is like on other platforms, but the DS Version is a shame on the name of LEGO.
