Being an adult is great because you buy lego sets whenever you want, and not have to wait for mom and dad to get it for you on your birthday. That being said, I bought this set for myself as soon as it was released (I've been waiting for this paticular set since before Thanksgiving).

This set is gorgeous. It's has a lovely colour scheme, and the mini figures you get for this price are a good deal! I adore the kitty unicorn (Unikitty), and Emmet (I enjoy his voice actor, Chris Pratt a lot). Wyldstyle and Executron round out the figures looking pretty sleek. The set is fairly small (197 pieces), and won't take long to build (just a few minutes for experienced builders). However, this is a set that girls and boys can enjoy together and with other sets can combine them to reenact scenes from the film.

Younger kids will probably want this set due to the fun colours and figures, but I wouldn't get it for anyone younger than 5. It's not an advanced set, but they might still have trouble. Also, I would hesitate to buy it for anyone older than 12, since they might find it "babyish". Just depends on the kid, though. I, personally, would have loved this at 14, 15, and beyond.

Girls will most certainly enjoy this set, and boys will like the mini figures of Executron and Emmet, and being able to have sets from the upcoming film. Although this is a small set, the colours and look of this set really set it apart. I would buy this again, along with the other movie sets (Ice Cream Machine is another cute, fun set for both genders).

This set has an MSRP of $19.99, which is a great price given what comes with it - two "lead character" minifigs (Emmett and Wildstyle), a bad guy minifig (Executron), AND Unikitty. It also comes with a bonus snail if you count that as a "character". If you were to try and buy the minifigures as loose pieces via third parties, you'll likely pay more for just the characters than $19.99, so the set is a really good deal!

The set itself is pretty small (197 pieces), but typically sturdy, as most Legos are. The pieces snapped together well and stayed in place, and I had no problems with it falling apart as mentioned by some of the less positive reviews. I especially like that this set references a pretty prominent scene in the movie (albeit a much more scaled down version). I got the ice cream machine/truck set before seeing the movie, and although I loved the ice cream truck as a standalone piece, its role in the movie was nominal at best (so much so that my kid doesn't even remember it even appearing in the movie). This Cloud Cuckoo Palace, however, she recognized immediately, and started playing with the minifigs as I was putting together the main structure for her.

Given what you get in the set, and the typically high cost of Legos, I think the MSRP for this set is a tremendous value, which may explain its scarcity at the time of this review. I would consider paying $25-$30 for this set if I was REALLY impatient, but it will likely be available for $20 once all the hype dies down, so no need to overpay unless you absolutely cannot wait.

All in all, i think this is probably the best set from the Lego Movie, primarily because it includes multiple key minifigures, features a prominent scene from the movie, and is relatively affordable. If you're not into Unikitty, a good alternative would be the Melting Room (Set 70801), which also includes Emmett and Wildstyle, as well as a different bad guy character, and has an even lower MSRP of $12.99. Given the success of the Lego movie, I'm really pleased that relatively affordable sets are being released that will allow us Lego fans to not go completely broke. Lol.

Great set with very creative curved pieces and bright colors. Our son and daughter both enjoy this one. Unikitty is their favorite "cause it's a great combo" and "like bricks and minifigure at the same time."

If you are patient, Amazon will surely sell this directly at some point either at or below the $19.99 price point. Don't support the scalpers!

Adult collectors will likely want this set for the quirky color scheme and uncommon parts. Kids will want it because you get minifigs of The Lego Movie's two main characters -- Emmet and Wildstyle -- as well as the pieces to make Unikitty. One word of warning though: Unikitty's head isn't very stable on her body, making her hard for the kids to "play" with.

If it didn't have a single extra brick it would be worth it just to get Unikitty for that special 6 year old little girl.

Sometimes with all the tech we have, Lego can be a tough sell with the kids. While the movie was a spectacular marketing piece, I'm OK with it because it inspired creativity in my kids in the end.

Unikitty enjoyed her mashed potatoes for her first meal at our house and spent the night in the My Little Pony Castle since we didn't build Cloud Cuckoo Land in time for bed.

U-nē-kit-ē <- I just like saying it!

This set is fun and whimsical, as you'd expect from Cloud Cuckoo Land if you've seen the movie. That said, the characters are the real reason we bought this set - you get Emmet, Wild Style and Uni kitty. There's also a bad guy and a fun little snail. The actual architecture pieces don't really have much long term value to us as anything besides scrap pieces... like I said, they are fun and whimsical, but nothing you really need to keep together. It's more inspired by Cloud Cuckoo Land. Unikitty doesn't stand up to play very well, but a little Kragl keeps her head on.

This set is so cute and an awesome, cheaper way to get some of the beloved Lego Movie figures like Unikitty and Wyldstyle!! Purchased this for my son just for the figures. Cuckoo Palace is definitely "girly" so we haven't built it and it's still sitting in the box but definitely worth it just for the figures. They are much more expensive if you bought them all separately. As always with Lego, the quality is superb! I do wish Unikitty stayed together better, she has a tendency to fall apart easily.

Some sellers are selling Unikitty for around 11 dollars including shipping but you can get this whole set with Unikitty included for just under 20 dollars including shipping (when I bought it anyway). I had legos as a child and although it didn't take long to make Unikitty by following the instructions it was fun and worth it. I'm an adult but part of me wants to take Unikitty to work with me as a decoration for my small section of the office area, lol. Ill keep Unikitty at home though.

OK, I will admit that I am a fan of Unikitty, and I really bought this Lego set for myself! Even though there are not a ton of pieces to this set, the selection of minifigures lends itself to hours of play. You might want to "kragle" Unikitty's head, as it tends to fall off quite a bit. What I like the most is that this is an inexpensive set for Lego, which means it is a great gift if you don't want to spend $30 or more.

The LEGO Movie has a problem in that many of the sets and items showcased are already available. This is why most of the kits are the transmogrified vehicles from the film's climax; you can buy pretty much any LEGO City, Old West, Castles, Pirates, or Star Wars kits on your own. The great exception is Cloud Cuckoo Palace, a fantastical world of bright but otherwise mismatched colors and flat surfaces where pegs are covered by smooth cover pieces.

In the film, the Cloud Cuckoo Palace is a kind of auditorium where a variety of LEGO minifigs meet to discuss how to combat the threat of Taco Tuesday. As a real kit it would likely be more in the $150+ range, so instead we get what looks like a smaller, miniaturized version of the exterior. It gives the buyer a taste of Cloud Cuckoo Land, but not the Palace proper. Still, if your child (actual or inner) wants Emmet, Wyldstyle, and Unikitty, this is the most cost-effective way to get them. There's a bad guy, too, and a non-speaking "extra" in the little snail as well, which rounds out a total of five characters; not bad for a $20 kit. It isn't the most stable set, as others have oted but hopefully you've seen the film and remember the lessons therein, and the trade-off is one of the more fanciful and interesting little set pieces you can buy.
