Product Description

LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu Season One

Amazon.com

Ninjago is an action TV series that's based on the Lego toys and features the martial arts-inspired "spinjitzu": basically a combination of martial arts performed with weapons like swords, scythes, nunchucks, and shurikens combined with very fast spinning. Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, Season One begins after the series pilot episode and follows ninjas Kai, Cole, Jay, and Zane as they study their craft with Sensei Wu. The four hope to unleash their inner potential in preparation for defending the world against the return of the Dark Lord Garmadon. Prophecy states that one ninja will rise above the others to become the Green Ninja, who is destined to defeat Garmadon. Unfortunately, the four young ninjas are poorly disciplined and more interested in video games (Lego's Ninjago, of course) and food fights than actual training. But when Garmadon's son Lloyd escapes from a boarding school for bad boys and accidentally releases an army of snakes, the ninjas suddenly have a reason to get serious about their training, as the snakes are a threat to the entire land of Ninjago. Sensei Wu is a wise teacher and the young ninjas develop their skills quickly, learning to use their four special weapons in a way that releases their elemental powers. But fate has a surprise for everyone when Lloyd is captured by the snakes and Sensei Wu informs the ninjas that they must rescue him. The question of which of the four ninjas will become the Green Ninja causes no end of bickering among the boys, even as they work together to rescue Lloyd and save Ninjago from the serpents. Interestingly, Kai's sister Nya also plays an unexpectedly important role in the mission to save Ninjago. The surprises just keep coming as five tribes of snakes band together in a quest to release an evil monster known as the Devourer, and eventually the ninjas find Lloyd training right alongside them. The action and suspense throughout this series is good, even if the ninjas often act like unruly prepubescent boys, and there are plenty of important life lessons woven throughout. (Ages 7 to 12) --Tami Horiuchi

My 5 1/2yo son loves Ninjago and was so excited to get this DVD! We've been recording the episodes on tv, but I wanted something to take in the car when we travel. The episodes are great and appropriate for his age (my 3yo also likes watching them) but the 1st two episodes are not on the DVD! I supposed that's why it's not described as "The COMPLETE 1st season." Somewhat frustrating. Now I need to purchase the original DVD, Masters of Spinjitzu, which I did not realize until I looked it up on amazon. I think a little bit of misleading advertising.

My kids love Lego Ninjago. We have bought almost all of the books and they have read them over and over. They have several sets and they spend hours playing with them (and eyeing new sets!).

When my son was about to turn eight, I saw this this product online and was really excited to get it for him for his birthday; I knew he would love it. We had never seen any of the episodes, and I wish I would have watched some first. My kids - they love them. As a mom, I don't like some of the humor and overtones. There are things that are rude or mean used as humor. There is disrespect and complaining to their sensei. Jay whines about losing the high scores on his video games like it is the end of the world.

The first time we watched it I was just cringing in parts and feeling like I wanted it to be the first time and last time they watched it. It isn't over the top terrible, just has enough things that I do not want my children adopting to concern me. Kids are so influenced by media, especially if it is something they love and think is so cool. I discussed with them portions that concern me and that I don't want to see them imitating, so hopefully it will be all right.

The animation is high quality, the opening music is really upbeat and fun, and the kids sure love it. Probably most people interested in buying this have already watched some of them, but if you haven't seen the episodes and are selective about what you have your kids watch I would see if you can watch some episodes online or borrow from a friend before buying.

Before I get on with the review, I must point out that I am the son of Screaming Viking.
Ninjago: Season 1 is an awesome set of episodes. It is somewhat kid-friendly, though there is some kicking and punching in it (against the bad-guys). Even though I am over 13 years of age, this season was a load of fun for me. There is a lot of character developement and story besides the martial arts, if you are worried that this is just going to be another Power Rangers-like series. Do you like Lego Ninjago? If the answer is yes, then this product is definately for you. Also, check out the Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu DVD. I have watched every single episode of Ninjago, and I must say that these TV specials are worth seeing over and over again.

This is a great dvd for kids who love Ninjago. My son is obsessed and cannot get enough. I will also say it is pleasant enough for adults to sit through. They really touch on themes such as leadership & teamwork, loyalty & friendship and self-discipline. They do it all with humor and charm. I particularly like that they show the young ninjas mature through acceptance of others, even when others are flawed. The books are great too. My only complaint is this is really not season 1 it is season 2, 2011-2012. There is another dvd with only two episodes from the first season, but we wanted the whole season since my son missed it.

This DVD set contains all the episodes of Ninjago Season 1. My 5 and 6-year-old sons are glued. They can't get enough. It's action-packed, but "clean;" no blood, no realistic violence, no bad language... all the things that all-too-often plague boys' "entertainment" these days. There are good messages of teamwork and doing good, too. There is no rooting for the bad guys here. I highly recommend this DVD for those with little guys. I've pre-ordered Season 2 already. :)

Lego movie's and shows are hit or miss due to the fact that they are usually generated towards children MORE than adults, which is fine in a sense as well as expected, however, adults do enjoy such things too, especially if we're going to watch them with our kids, nieces, or nephews, etc. or even by ourselves. I thought that Lego Batman was pretty good, Lego Star Wars was OK, mostly forgettable, and the Lego Movie was VERY disappointing to say the least. Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu: Season One however is shockingly amazing! Absolutely fun and a pleasure and feast of the eyes to look at, it is such a dog gone good show, I was SHOCKED, it looked like it was going to probably be bad to me, but needless to say I fell in love with it and was sad when the DVD was over, I cannot wait to watch season two and three, I just hope that they'll be just as good, they should do a Lego Batman and Star Wars TV show too!

Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu: Season One ***** out of *****

Violent Content: 2/10 - Action Violence Involving Lego's.
