Detailed Design with Fabric Sails

Rechristened the Black Pearl after being raised from the sea floor by Davy Jones, Captain Jack Sparrow's sailing vessel can outrun any ship. Every detail of this infamous galleon is packed into this LEGO model. From the figurehead statue on the bow to the two main canons on the starboard gun deck, to the broad fabric sails atop the masts, the Black Pearl is accurately portrayed.

A moveable anchor, detachable floorboard, and accessible captain's cabin with opening door are just some of the cool nautical details included in this model.

Six Mini-Figures Add to the Fun

For added fun, six LEGO mini-figures are included to help recreate your favorite scenes. With swords, pistol, telescope, and compass accessories in hand, you can pit Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Davy Jones, Joshamee Gibbs, Maccus, and Bootstrap Bill against one another. Black Pearl Offers a Challenging Build

We just purchased this for my son's 7th birthday. Like all lego products it is very high quality and tons of fun to build together. The detail is excellent. Expect to spend a full afternoon or so building it so if you have a young one build in some breaks. Lego does an excellent job of making this easy with the "build in stages" approach to instructions and packaging. Get it and enjoy.

This is an unbelievable set! The detail is incredible. The set has over 800 pieces and the minifigs look exactly like the characters in the movie. The set is very complicated to put together, so if you buy it for a younger child, be prepared to spend some time helping them put it together. The instruction booklets are easy to follow, its just a lot of pieces and takes time.

Once it is put together, its big - almost 2 feet long and 20 inches tall! This is a lego set you'll want to put on display once its completed, so make room on your shelf. So glad Lego has teamed up with Disney to make Pirates of the Caribbean themed sets!

I purchased this item for my son who is 11 and totally enthralled with Pirates of the Caribbean. The ship is much larger than I expected and looks awesome. My son says, "It's the best pirate ship of all time." He says it is education because of architectural aspects. The toy is advanced and better suited to an experienced LEGO builder. The durability is rated a three as the sails are made from a paper like material and would not stand up to very rough play.

This is the first Lego set I have owned since I was young and definitely the most spectacular. I'm not a huge fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean films beyond the first one (and even that had more than it's share of flaws) but I do love pirate ships and this one is amazing. Coming from the perspective of an adult this one was pretty easy to build. I would estimate it probably took me about 3 hours but what a wonderful three hours. Perhaps the hardest part was the masts. They have a thin central rod that is sometimes a bit of work to insert but with a little twisting and pushing they went in. The directions are very easy to follow and I never found myself stuck or confused.

In my estimation this is a set more suitable for display than playing so I'm not sure I could recommend it for younger kids even if someone older were to put it together. The masts and sails are rather intricate and would likely come apart with anything more than the most delicate of play. The sails are a kind of very thin plastic and although I'm sure they are more durable than they look it I can't imagine that a little tugging wouldn't tear them where that attach to the crossbeams.

I don't think it would come as a surprise that the Lego Black Pearl is a simplified version of the movie Black Pearl. The movie ship had portholes for far more cannons and the back of the boat had three windows as opposed to two on the Lego version. The movie version also had a lower section to the boat whereas the Lego Black Pearl has the deck basically sitting at the lowest point. I suppose you can imagine that the bottom of the Lego boat is not the actual bottom of the ship but only where it sits in the water.... An actual ship like the Black Pearl doesn't have a flat bottom but tapers down so you can imagine that this is how the Black Pearl would look if the surface it's sitting on were the ocean. For whatever reason despite having portholes for six cannons the set only comes with two. Perhaps my favorite part of the ship is the front sail which is held up only with ropes. That is really cool. One other difference between this and the movie version is in the movie the sails are in tatters but here they are in perfect shape so perhaps this is the ship prior to the curse.

I have The Black Pearl sitting on a dresser in my bedroom and it looks great. There are some terrific mini figs and I look forward to putting together Queen Anne's Revenge and having the two side by side. My fleet would be complete if I could ever find a reasonably priced Imperial Flagship (which is probably the coolest of all Lego ships) and The Flying Dutchman if and when Lego decides to release it. This is one of the most unique Lego sets I have come across. This was a birthday present for our 7-yr old and he took his time putting it together. Once it was done, it looks amazing. Surprisingly, this is the only Lego so far that he has put away nicely as a display in his room. Shows how much he likes it.

This is written for my 6 year old as I had little to do with the actual building.
My 6 year old loves legos and I would consider him a little better than average for his age at building legos. (I can brag can't I?)
It took him about 4-5 hours with ~5-10% assistance from parents.
So far it is the only set that he has left intact and plays with as a standing toy.
It has a little over 800 pieces.
finished set is pretty good size and has nice detail; may be a little more difficult than comparitive size sets because most of the pieces are black or grey
He doesn't have any other ship sets so we have nothing to compare with but he really had fun putting it together!

I bought this LEGO set for my 6 year old nephew in Taiwan as a Christmas gift and he just loved it! He has been diagnosed with leukemia this Feb and has gone through countless painful chemotherapy treatments. When building this set, he was so focusing on the instructions and finding the bricks. The most important thing is he completely forgot the discomfort from chemo medication. To see him build this ship with joy is priceless.
