I was very excited to start building this set. It took me around 4 - 5 hours to build it. It looks very cool when it is all done.
The net launcer does not launch the net as far as it is supposed to. The rock monster does not throw the rocks as far as I saw on a different review. The crane tilt does not work good. The drill sometimes stalls. Only get it if you really, really want it as it is pretty expensive. If it were $50 it would be a better value, I think.

My son loves this toy. The instructions are in TWO books and it took several days to put it together. My husband had to help my son finish it. My son made some mistakes putting it together and my husband had to correct those. The instructions are some times difficult to follow. Some of the pieces fell on the floor as it was being assembled and some of them got stepped on and bent, but they didn't break. You will need lots of patience with tiny lego pieces to get this put together. It's expensive, too. My son saved up the $100 to buy this over several months. I think it's very over priced, but I have to admit, my son loves it and plays with it a lot.

Our seven year old boy is a lego fanatic. Though he never saw the power miner set in the stores, he had done his research and could tell us all about it. It's a hybrid between Technic kits (gears, string, girders and rivets) and the currently popular specialized pieces. The theme of this kit is a machine that can bore into the earth horizontally or tip vertically and bore down. There are several workers who can operate cranes - apparently to pick up cages containing the "bad guys" one encounters when making a journey to the center of the planet. Oddly, these guys seem to like Bananas - there were one or two that came with the set - even lego guys need Potassium! There is a gear system to spin the drill and tweaking things to make them work well is a big part of the fun. Certainly a great kit that is (apparently) no longer in production.

If youre Lego junkie doesn't have this set, be SURE to get one before they're all gone! Golly, just when you thought Lego couldn't outdo themselves again, they always surprise and develop something like this set. Although it's a bit more intricate than most, this set actually resembles a Technic set more than a regular Lego set because of all the working attributes. There is a gear assembly that takes quite awhile to put together to actually get it to work - two have to work simulatenously to move the drill so if you get one wrong, you have to start over! The tower raises and lowers and is connected to the drill with a grappling hook (like Batman's), which in real life, would be quite unstable for a machine like this. If you get the gears right, the drill will turn as the machine rolls through the caves and once the rock monster is spotted, he can be captured with the net, placed into the cage that is lowered by a crank and attached with a black cable, and inserted into the captive portion of the machine. The driver even has a banana to use as bait! Once captured, the monster can be stored at the side of the machine while the drill picks up more of his band mates.
SO AWESOME! It's been sitting on our dining room table to show guests since it was completed last month. Hands down, one off the absolutely BEST sets we have purchased and we have a bunch! Highly, highly, highly recommend!

I heard that this set has been discontinued and I am so happy to find this set. Both my son and myself had a good time building it.

Reviewer- male - age 11
2 Thumbs Up LEGO Power Miners Titanium Command Rig (8964) My favorite parts: - I really like that the crane actually works/moves. - The shooting net is fun to shoot. - The cage is cool and can hold 2 of my monsters. I can slide it on the pulley string. - My sister (age 13) says, "5-stars! It is the most entertaining toy I've ever seen!" I don't really like: - I expected more characters - I thought the rig would be "huge" but, it is smaller (Mom says it's big enough). - Rig has trouble going in reverse. - The Legos still fall apart pretty easy but, this rig stays together better than most of my others. This toy took about 4 hours to assemble. Mom set the pieces out for each page, then I put it together by myself. Mom really liked the numbered, well-organized parts bags but, still would have preferred putting this together over a few days. I couldn't wait to play with it!!

My son (13) thoroughly enjoyed building ands showing off this drilling rig. Very cool engineering and design. The only thing that Lego missed was a smoother gear assembly that spins drill head while drill is horizontal. If vehicle movement is too fast or abrupt, the drill head gearing 'pops'. Other than that a Great Toy

I just got my Titanium Command Rig in the mail. It's the coolest LEGO toy in the world, I think!
Some of my favorite things on it are how far Tremorox launches the rocks, and how high the tower is, and the features. The features are pretty cool. There are lots of features. Here some I like: the crane, net launcher, dynamite launcher and the drill. They all move! I also found some challenges with the TCR. Some good, some bad. I enjoyed putting the whole thing together. I did it by myself. It was not easy, but I put the whole thing together in about three hours. By the way, connecting the tower to the rest of the TCR is pretty hard. I bought my TCR on Amazon, because I looked at prices at other stores and not only was it less money, but I didn't have to pay any taxes or shipping and handling! I'm glad to have saved money that way, because it's the most expensive LEGO toy I've ever come across. Even though it was pricey, I had lots of fun putting it together and playing with it. If you're a boy like me, I would highly recommend this toy!!!!!!!

This set is one of the best of the higher priced Lego sets. It is worth every penny and my 8 year old son solves it.

I think this was the best Lego set ever designed. It has so many functions. Not recommended for under 8 years old. Will need assistance if 8 to 10 years old in building the set.
