Lego Racers takes the logical controls and smooth play from other racing games (especially those on the PLayStation) with the added bonus of building your own cars. Though I don't think the bricks affect aerodynamics (the manual claims that they only affect weight and balance), you'll still find yourself tweaking and fiddling with your custom car, looking for that perfect blend of fast and speedy. Decidedly low-violence, and lots of fun for Lego maniacs.

...Especially if you plan on getting it for your kids. While the Lego brand screams out for childhood fun, the controls quickly become awkward and frustrating. Also, the computer controlled racers are not only ruthless but after the first circuit or two the computer has the miraculous ability to not only attain higher speeds than any car you build or drive, but also to accelerate faster than what they should be able to. All in all, it proves frustrating, annoying, and rather disquieting that the designers would put such an adult game under a childhood icon such as Lego. If you want your child to feel inadequate for an hour a day, go ahead and buy this. If not, then "steer" clear of this one.

Caveat - I'm a big Lego fan. I love minifigs and think they're very cool...which is why I love this racing game. To start - lots of fun minifigs to personalize. You have control to change thier clothes, helmets, faces and just about anything else. The same goes for their vehicle. You can either use a "stock" pre-made car or build your own. Those wanting to jump right into the game should pick a pre-made car ( you still have a couple of choices ) and start to play. You can spend hours just building your car from scratch - using all the different Lego shapes, colors and sizes. The racing itself is pretty good, too. Lots of different worlds to visit and race in. The handling isn't too tough but it's fun - good for both adults and kids, nothing too complicated. There are save options too, so you won't have to rebuild your minifig drivers and cars each time. It's a fun game, great for the whole family. Best Regards, turtlex.

This game is a lot of fun for kids that love to race. The cool part is you can build different cars, build you own people, and get a driver's license! There are a bunch of short cuts in the game so you can get around the track quicker. I like playing this game a lot!

This is a really fun game and the ability to build your car is really cool but the computer drivers are just so good, it gets frustrating. No matter what you do, they are always better than you.

The best of all I have ever played. You can make your own guy to use in the race and you create the car. It is fun and fast pased.

Bad graphics, jerky animation and control, opponents that are always making you eat their dust, poor turning capacity, annoying music and sound effects, and an awkward Create-a-Racer mode--need I say more? If I do, then please allow me to say, "Avoid this turkey at all costs!"

I liked all the other LEGO brand games (mostly on computer), but this one was the most dissapointing. the game has horrible gameplay and it is way to hard for me. i don't see how any little 5 year old kid could ever enjoy this when I can't even win the first race because of how fast the other racers were going.

We have a lot of the Lego software, and all of it is pretty impressive. This one though, really clicks with my 4 and 6 year olds. You can do 'real' Lego building fairly easily, but there is also an option to just choose the car and go. This is great for the little ones. They really enjoy picking the head, body, and legs of the characters, and the characters move around in a very cute way. And racing -- the racetracks are wonderfully done, plenty of sound effects. Nothing traumatic happens no matter what you do (you can crash and the character says 'ouch'), and after hours of play it didn't lock up my system once. Granted my new system has lots of space and firepower: I think the graphics on this are not for 'wimpy' systems. My only suggestions would be to get a joystick (the kids find the keys a bid awkward), and learn to turn down the music (which is cute music, but drives me nuts after a couple of hours). Also, you Lego programmers, my kids interpreted the character shaking his head 'no' to mean the character didn't like the head chosen for him, and kept trying over and over to 'please' the little character. He should nod happily once in awhile too. Otherwise, I wish all the kids software was of such a high quality! Fun for adults too, if you like car racing! |
