9469 Gandalf Arrives was initially released in May of 2012 with a LEGO store price of $12.99. It is the cheapest (price-wise) of the first wave of Lord of the Rings-licensed LEGO toys, and contains two minifigures (Gandalf the Grey and Frodo), horse, pieces for a cart, and accessories (fireworks, book, barrel, carrot, snake wand, etc..). It has 83 total pieces.

Overall, this is a pretty nice set. It is the *ONLY* initial LEGO LotR set that you can get Gandalf in. But even if you're only a LEGO fan and not a LotR fan, the set still has a lot going for it. While there are other figures that wear the magician hat, this is the first I can remember in grey. The horse and cart are suitable for LEGO City, Castle, Kingdom, and other theme use. The accessories (carrot, book, fireworks, etc..) also make a nice addition to anyone's LEGO collection.

If you're a fan of the movies, of course, THIS is the set you need to re-live Gandalf's visit in The Fellowship of the Ring. And, since everyone knows that Fellowship was *The Best* of the trilogy, you're gonna want to get this set! (Just kidding all you folks that liked Return of the King more.. mostly. ;)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. A great buy for LotR fans, and useful to enthusiasts from other LEGO lines as well.

Gandalf Arrives is a 83 piece set of the scene when Gandalf comes to see Bilbo at the Shire. Comes with a very nice looking Gandalf figure with wizard hat, staff and assortments of fireworks, snakes, a carrot, satchel, envelope, bone and a spell-book. Also comes with a Frodo figure. A horse leads Gandolf's rolling carriage.

This is a simple set, good for the youngin's and a nice set to display or add to your adventure on the way to Mordor.

A good price for what you get. It was quite cheaper at "Toys "R" Us," than here on Amazon.

Great toy for kids, and kids at heart like myself. It isn't super complex, but it's not as simple as you would expect.

Gandalf the gray and Frodo are included. This is the only way to get Gandalf as he is exclusive to this particular set. The horse is cool, and and the cart is cool too.

The old negative thing about this lego set is the fact the Gandalf can't move his head because of his beard... eh, I'm over it.

This is the least expensive Lord of the Rings set and the only way to get Gandalf soooooooo... buy this. buy it now.

I bought this for my six-year-old nephew. He's become a fan of LOTR, ever since we played the LOTR Lego video game. I love all things Lego ever since I was a kid in the late 80s/early-mid 90s. Lego sets tend to be pricey, so the price for this was reasonable. I love building the sets. This set is quite easy to assemble, but since he's six (and not the targeted age group specified on the box), he couldn't do it all by himself and needed my assistance. It took me around 10-15 minutes.

With that being said, I was disappointed to notice that some of the Lego pieces didn't quite secure together tightly. (Lego is reputable for manufacturing sets that fit together very well.) Every time I tried to fix a piece, another piece fell off (and I was quite careful to not apply too much pressure) which added to my frustration. For example: The basket didn't remain properly fitted and I found myself re-putting it a number of times. I told my nephew to be very careful with it lest it falls apart. The verdict: He loves it and incorporates other Lego sets and minifigs with this one while playing.

This is a lovely toy. The design is beautiful and the minifigures are adorable. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because of the few ill-fitted pieces. Overall, I recommend this toy, but if your child is rough with his toys, then I suggest another Lego set. This would be a great addition to put on your desk or book shelf. I hope you find this review helpful in making your purchase decision.

As the smallest set from the Lord of the Rings LEGO line, it is slightly overpriced. At about $0.15 per piece at RRP, you're way above the "golden ratio" (about $0.10 per part) that most fans look for when pricing sets. However, you do get two great figures and a new horse out of the deal, so take that into consideration.

I'll start with the best part, the figures. Gandalf the Grey is an excellent representation of this iconic character. The hat, torso printing, beard, and cape all combine to make a great minifigure. His staff is a little plain, but I was impressed with him overall. Frodo has great torso printing and looks excellent as well. Many people will be buying this set just for the figures, and these do not disappoint. LEGO has done an excellent job with the figs from the first wave of sets in this line. I doubt it will happen, but it would be great if LEGO figured out how to give the hobbits bare feet.

The new horse style is also here, even if the ability for it to rear up on its hind legs does not come into play with this set. It's still a great opportunity to pick up the new style of horse in a small set and is easily worth some points.

As for the cart, construction is pretty simple and can be done in just a few minutes. The designers made good use of hinges to give the side panels an angled look and LEGO was smart to add so many pieces to include in the cargo area. You get a nice backpack and barrel, along with a pretty cool looking snake. That one is probably supposed to represent the dragon firework that Merry and Pippin steal in the movie.

My only real complaint about the cart is the seat at the front. It's almost impossible for Gandalf to actually sit on the thing with his cape on and there's only one connection point for his legs.
