This is a seriously must-own set. For starters, this is a 227 piece set priced at the MSRP $19.99 (amazon.com sells at MSRP, unless you catch it on discount; this is actually a GOOD thing since many retailers, including Toys R Us, mark-up LEGO sets by 5-10%--yes, even in their brick & mortar stores!) If we go by the generally agreed-upon guideline amongst LEGO fans for determining the value of a set (the price per piece inside a given box), this set clocks in at just under $0.09 per piece which is fantastic. $0.10 is the price you look for to know you're getting a good amount of bricks for the money, so we are within bargain territory here--however, do keep in mind that this set is primarily made up of small pieces, which does impact the price.

While price is always a consideration, what's always most important is what you get. Again, you shouldn't be disappointed as this set recreates one of the most iconic moments from the Lord of the Rings trilogy-- Frodo and Sam's encounter with Shelob the spider at Cirith Ungol. You get Samwise Gamgee (so far exclusive to this set) with sword and the Phial of Galadriel, Frodo Baggins with Sting and The One Ring, Gollum (also exclusive!) with a fish, some terrain and the eight-legged Shelob, last daughter to Ungoliant. It's a great combination of characters and a must-have for any LEGO LotR fan.

Shelob comes complete with adjustable legs and abdomen as well as a really cool retractable web attached to an internal gear system. The web has a hook at the end making it easy to hang the spider if you like, or use the string to wrap up Frodo, just as the scene in the books/films portrayed. Frodo has a cool 2nd face (just turn the head around) for when he is in "stung" mode.

What a great lego set. Hopefully this video will give you some additional detail on this wonderful set. Priced at around $20 this set is a must have of the group even for those that are not fans of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Some highlights mentioned in the video:

- Great characters of Frodo, Sam and Golum.
- Fantastic job done on the details with the spider.
- The spinneret will hold the spider weight, allowing you to hang the spider. (Creepy)
- The building was fun.
- There are different faces on the legos.

Overall a great $20 gift for any lego or Lord of the Rings lover. If they love both, well... what are you waiting for?

The Shelob Attacks set captures the scene in which Gollum leads Frodo and Sam into her lair in the mountains. Set contains 227 pieces and includes Shelob(the spider) w/retractable webbing, Frodo w/his sword Sting and the light of Eaerendil, Sam w/sword, Gollum figure who hides behind a tiny cave set dwelling, comes with a tasty fish, as well as a launching mechanism for a Gollum attack.
And of course includes a tiny ring, "the ONE ring",(3 came in the box and 2 Sting swords btw). Spider is nicely built and it's legs bend and angle at almost any position of attack or defense. A great set. Nice and sturdy.

That's right - K'ayum says it's the coolest set ever. And he should know - he's 7. In his words:
"The spider has 3 click hinges on each leg. I think it was smart to put wheels on the bottom because sometimes you put the legs flat and you can still make it actually move. The whole set is great but the best part is the spider's abdomen because it makes a web and you can put it back in. One of the concerns I had when I first made it was because the abdomen was floppy but then my mom fixed it by taking the abdomen off and squeezing the stinger thingee and that fixed it. I think it's cool because I hung the spider by the stinger part from a nail in my door with web coming out so it looks like spiderman going down a building."

He also has a short review for the cave: "This cave is neat because you can control how far Gollum jumps by applying more or less finger pressure."

That's his review - hope it was helpful!

Bought this as a gift for my boyfriend. We were both pleased/a little horrified at the level of realistic detail- Shelob really captures the... *essence* of spiders and gives me the heebie-jeebies when I see her out of the corner of my eye. The minifigs are great, especially Gollum. Good set, well worth the money.

Was a pain building because one leg keeps falling off. It is frustrating for kids to have fun with a products that keeps falling apart.

When I first received this I was worried. This was the last on my list of The Lord of the Rings Lego sets that I wanted to get. I thought for sure that the Shelob would function poorly, and would likely fall apart easily. Not so. The spider string mechanism is well designed, and the legs are beautifully crafted. Of course, it's a spider so too much force will tear her legs off, but that's also part of the fun of playing with it. Plus, you get Samwise, Frodo, and Gollum all in 1 inexpensive set, a real bonus. Frodo carries the sword Sting, and he and Samwise both have their concealing capes. The only poor aspect to this in my opinion is Gollum. This is the only set he's in so far, and he's kind-of disappointing. His arms only move up and down, and his hands do not swivel. He should at least have hands that do that. All in all though, terrific set.
