Very sturdy set. Has great play value. But the price is just ridiculous. This model is for the most part a rehash of the last LEGO Tie (Besides the cockpit). Should have been $50, maybe $60 is justifiable.

If you're looking to purchase this set just wait. Amazon usually lowers price a good bit within half a year. If you buy this for $70 you most likely will regret it.

My son (5) enjoyed this build very much, he is a big fan of Star Wars. We had one issue tat I thought I would mention. He had difficulty with the wings, they would come off easily. I tried also and the same thing occurred. I thought this was rather odd, so I checked reviews from various sites. I found that there were two reactions commonly reported. Some said the wings fell off easily, but others commented on how incredibly stable the ship was and how strong the wings were. So I took a look again. When we tried to fasten the wings before, we tried putting them on one at a time, this was very precarious and sometimes caused parts of the wing to come off. Instead, I tried putting the wings on lightly with no pressure. Then I applied even hard pressure from both sides right at the center of the wings pushing them together. They then both clicked into place. The wings are now locked tight and it has been super stable. I hope this is helpful to others who have had a problem.

Pros: body of ship is so tight I could probably kick it across the room without losing a piece.
Cons: Wing attachments are so insecure that a breath of wind from the front door being opened makes one of the wings drop off. It then tends to jump the rest of the way off the shelf and requires some searching to find the pieces of wing(s) strewn about the room. Makes me want to actually kick it for this. Prior sets (9492 in particular) are much less likely to lose the foils like this one is doing.
Attempting to solve this connection issue by switching sides-no good. Swapping out half the connectors on each side-no good.
Questioning the use of parts 60478 & 63868 in this configuration. Replacing these parts (8 each) with 44301 & 44302. I find it ridiculous to have to spend even MORE money just to be able to set this set on a shelf. Thinking about getting this set for a child to play with? Good luck with that.

As an adult builder, I look for many things in a kit, and believe me, this one is an absolute joy! I'd almost tear it down and do it all again just because. This kit is detailed, and very sturdy!

Reviews that say the deflector panels are not sturdy, here's a tip. Make sure there is no "white" showing when you put them on. If there is, give it just a bit more of a push and voila! It's very study and super fun to play with too. Be careful of the spring loaded weapons on the front of the TIE Foghter. They shoot far and you'll lose them easily if you're not careful. Luckily, Lego always sends a few more spare parts just in case.

Enjoy this one!

I was really looking forward to this set and was not disappointed. I rated 4 stars as I felt that it was a little over priced, but not to the point where it was not worth the price. I feel as though with a couple extra figures it would be great. But I digress, let's briefly go over what you do get. The size is certainly impressive. This is a small large model, if that makes sense. Its footprint is impressive, but a lot of that is empty space with the inherent design of the Tie Fighters big wings and small body. It is a very solid model that went together with relative ease. Most lego sets in this price and size range do something, this one does not. But in their defense there's not a whole lot it could do besides the two launchers that do fire. It looks great on display with other ships and is not the least bit wobbly nor does it suffer from any obvious weak points.

***A word on my photos. I have several set up on my desk so what you see with or around may or may not come with the set. ***

Love this set! It has a good weight, minifigs are great, build is pretty accurate to the movie, and once completed, the craft feels sturdy enough to play with.

For display purposes, There are only two things I'd change about set:
1. Instead of red flick missiles, they should've included the transparent green one. (I think all of the First Orders' weapons fired green, at least their vehicles, so Lego was off on this one.)
2. Add the black lines on the interior of the Tie-Fighter wing. They did a great job with the external sides, they should've added the detail to the inside flaps. It's a small detail, but would've definitely been appreciated.

Over all I'd highly recommend this if you like SW Episode VII - at the time of this writing, it's on sale for $56, so it's a no brainer.

The First Order TIE Fighter is one of the best-looking sets from the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens Lego line. This is a new version of the classic Imperial spaceship (with a cool new color scheme and a cockpit that holds two pilots), and features four new minifigures – two TIE Fighter Pilots, a First Order Officer and a Crewman.

Complexity: There are 517 pieces in this set, but it’s a fairly simple, straightforward build. Figure roughly an hour to assemble, and be prepared to lend a hand if your builder is very young.

Playability: Ideally a kid would be able to grab this TIE Fighter and Poe’s X-Wing Fighter and run around the room in an epic aerial battle. Unfortunately the wings on this ship tend to fall off (and shatter when they do so). It’s fine if all you want to do is set it down and maybe load in the pilots, and it makes a great display piece, but past that it may be more frustrating than it’s worth.

Aside from it not being very durable, there’s a lot to love about this First Order TIE Fighter set. The design is just fantastic, especially the small details and the way the black and red pieces are arranged, it looks great on the shelf, and the minifigures are fun. It’s just not the best set for kids who actually want to play with their Lego sets though.
