4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Darth Vader ship Lego toy
Customer Video Review     Length:: 0:57 Mins
This is a brief video showing you the assembled Darth Vader Tie Fighter. My son's love it, it was easy to put together, but it does come apart easily. I hope you find the video helpful.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad Design!
My 7 year old son loves LEGO's and can put them together in no time. He has a whole shelf just full of them. He prefers to display them more than play with them though he does occasionally take one or two down to play with. He put this one together the other day and right from the start it kept falling apart! He was so frustrated with it that he actually asked me to...

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool new TIE fighter, July 5, 2009

Kid's review: This lego set is full of pros and cons.
Pros: easy and fun to build, cool minifigure, awesome lightsaber storage, non flickfire missiles, and adjustable wings!
Cons: very flimsy wings, unsturdy connections.
On the left and right in the middle of the set, there is a 2x2 flat light gray piece on each end. In the extra pieces that come with the set, there are two 1x2 light gray pieces that can be placed next to the 2x2s for extra sturdiness. This set is better for being displayed on a bookshelf than for playing. Hope this review was helpful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Learning experience, November 19, 2009

My 8 year old thoroughly enjoyed the process of putting this together. It was a great learning experience on how to follow detailed instructions and the cause and effect of not doing so. The down side is that the little pieces don't stay together well and it can be very frustrating to pretend play with it. If you are looking for something to challenge someone who is creative and likes to build and create something new all the time, it's a great toy. If you are looking for something for a Star Wars fan who likes to imagine and act out their own battles and scenes, stick with a non-Lego toy.

Badly designed in my opinion and apparently a few others agree.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare to defend the Death Star!!, January 28, 2010
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader's TIE Fighter (8017) (Toy)
I got this set for my birthday, and I was thrilled because I had really wanted a Darth Vader figure for my Lego collection. This set comes with one awesome Darth Vader figure that has a very detailed printed head and torso. He also has a black cape and a fantastic helmet. He is equipped with a silver lightsaber hilt with a red blade. The TIE Fighter itself is a fairly complex build and when finished it looks very fast and intimidating. The TIE Fighter is equipped with an opening cockpit with a seat and controls for Darth Vader. The ship is outfitted with two flick-missiles (one on each side of the cockpit) that have a mechanism to shoot them. The Fighter also has a holder for Vader's lightsaber behind the cockpit. Well, here are the basics of the set:

The good things

Darth Vader
Lightsaber
TIE Fighter
Mechanism to shoot the flick-missiles
Lightsaber holder
Opening cockpit
Printed cockpit control piece
Printed windshield piece

The bad things

Stickers
Flick-missiles
Cockpit needs more controls
Vader can not fit in the cockpit with his cape on

Over all, I highly recommend this set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really excellent set, with fun, stable features!, December 1, 2009
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

This set is a great recreation of the ship seen in the original Star Wars movie (A New Hope). It features a workable cockpit hatch, firing missiles, and fold-able wings. The Darth Vader figure included is also spot-on with a removable mask and lightsaber. He sits well in the cockpit. Very nice!

A word of caution, though, in that some have complained that the wings separate too easily. Nevertheless, I think this is a good opportunity to teach children to handle their toys with proper care. Plus, it gives them patience!

I bought this Lego as a birthday present for my son--needless to say he is a great Star Wars Fan-- who turned 8. This is definitively the most accurate Lego I have bought to him. The design is just like the original TIE Fighter even the wings bend a bit to simulate the flying. Just a little remark and it is that if you are buying this toy for children under 7, you need to be near them as the booklet is not very specific on how to assemble the parts at some points. Also, it is not meant for rough play as parts fall apart easily. Besides that, I can tell you that any Star Wars lover will not be disappointed with this toy.

4.0 out of 5 stars NICE LOOKING SHIP!, August 14, 2009
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader's TIE Fighter (8017) (Toy)
Nice looking ship. Looks good when built. Easy to build but nicely crafted. Small quibble-could use an extra piece under the cockpit to secure it better(which I've done with an extra piece I had from another lego set). Also both side wings(panels)could use a tighter bond but overall a fine addition to any Star Wars lego collection.

PRO's-Ship design, Darth Vader mini-figure, wings tilt and straighten, cockpit design and underneath ship a small peg/click to hold/attach Darth Vader's light saber.

CON's-Needs another small flat 2x3 brick plate to help secure under cockpit better so when you put in Vader, it won't separate the cockpit (easy fix). Wings need perhaps a couple more technique pegs to secure a tigher bon(again, easy fix).

Overall with some minor tweaks it's a fun ship. Recommended and Highly Recommended for any Star Wars fan or Darth Vader fan.

My 6 year old nephew liked this kit but it didnt take as long to do as he would have liked. He also got the deluxe TIE fighter which was a bit much (he and his dad worked on it over a few days) - it would be really nice to have an in between level kit for kids that follow the instructions of Lego kits with little trouble.
