5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice set for the money June 28, 2011
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Legos are always expensive, especially the premium sets like Star Wars. My son (7) picked this one out himself out of all the $20 and under sets at the Lego store. When assembled, it has movable wings and comes with the bad-guy pilot and the R2-Q2 robot.

It took him about 1 hour to build, start to finish, with me helping to sort the pieces, correct a couple mistakes, and put the decals on. Overall, it was a straightforward build and not too tricky.

Once completed, the cockpit opens and closes using a hinge, and the wings on the rear sides rotate 90 degrees. The grey parts of the wings can also be bent. There are no shooting missiles.

The pilot can fit in the cockpit even with his gun in his hand, which is nice. R2-Q2 is slightly metallic in color, not just a plain grey. With R2-Q2 as he's seen in the picture, you actually have to detach his head an only put the head on the ship in order to match the picture. However, it does fit perfectly in that same spot fully assembled, he just stands on top instead of looking like he's down inside the ship.

When resting on the ground, the ship only sits on one round 4-peg piece, so it's wobbly, but the piece is at the center of gravity of the ship. The large pieces and simple construction make it pretty durable so it doesn't break apart easily.

I did have some trouble with the decals and might call customer service to see if I can get a new set - they came kind of curled at the edges and therefore when applied, they keep curling up. Just a tip on decals - wash the lego parts with some soapy water and dry, then put the decals on before assembling. This will keep finger oils off the parts and they'll stick better.

3.0 out of 5 stars V-Wing Fighter ok for display and play October 30, 2011
By Neuman
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 2.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this for $15 and for that price, you can't go wrong. It has a variable position wing that rotates and bends, which is nice, but also a bit flimsy. The rest of the craft is quite sturdy and well designed. For a child, it can be played with, but watch those wings - because of their ability to rotate and bend, it may fall off during play. As for a display piece, it is ok. It doesn't come with landing gears or a stand, but it does rest on 1 clear round cylinder piece that is strategically placed in the center of gravity of the craft.

5.0 out of 5 stars 20 minutes to fun May 15, 2011
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This fun little set is quick to assemble and fairly durable. The wings rotate and flex. 139 pieces. Includes 2 minifigs.

Recipient is nine years old and a skilled LEGO builder; it took him 20 minutes to build the entire set independently. More durable than the Hyena Droid Bomber, thank heavens.

Fun for play.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this set... February 19, 2012

Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a great set, as a lot of people I really enjoy clone figures and this imperial pilot looks amazing, of course R2-Q2 looks great too but this is just R2-D2 in grey. The ship was bigger that I expected, but its a really nice toy, it has a very nice dark look, according to the imperial fleet in the original star wars. I'm giving 4 stars not for the toy itself which deserves 5 stars, but for the whole thing including its packaging (check next comment).

COMMENT ABOUT PACKAGING FOR LEGO: Lego has always done a very nice job with their packaging, bags come labeled with numbers, capes and other cloths come in little paper packages and the instructions couldnt be more acurate. But what about the stickers? Some people really hate stickers on lego toys, but more than that, is worst when the stickers come with all other items in the box and they just get a lot of damage and get wrinkled, so just out of the box the stickers are pretty much useless. I'm pretty sure that Lego will come out with a very nice idea to protect the stickers.

3.0 out of 5 stars wait for a price drop. April 8, 2013
Durability: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
i got this set on sale a while back...i see that it's currently listed at around $40 and that is simply ridiculous.

maybe that's because of low stock or some other factor, but that price is outrageous for this little set.

this is the only recent star wars set that i've scrapped for parts for MOC's.

the design is nice, but it's small for the price and compared with some other StarWars spaceships, its looks small and unremarkable.

at its current price, only buy if you're a serious collector...otherwise wait for the Summer 2013 lineup that has some sweet looking sets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Boys need Lego April 3, 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase
My Grandson wanted this V-wing Starfighter so I ordered it. It wasn't available locally--sold out! He has put it together over and over and made other things out of it. I've found Lego parts all over, but Lego is now a part of out home decor.
If you want a toy any little boy (or girl) will enjoy for years and years, get a Lego set.
