Great Lego set, but could use more support,

This is a great Lego set for kids and collectors alike. The model is very close to the real deal, and has a TECHNIC mechanism that moves the wings and drops small "bombs" from the bottom.
PLAY: Very sturdy for "swooshing" and for attacking evil droid armies. The main wings are solid and are well supported. When using the mechanism to open the x-wings, the wings do have a tendency to move around a bit on their axis. This has the effect of making them non-parallel with the main wings. This only affects the display of the model and doesn't detract from the fun. Clone pilots are well secured inside the model, which opens in two directions to provide easy removal of the troops in case they need to escape. The bomb-release mechanism is interesting and easy to use. I was surprised to find that even with the model's unusual shape, the entire model sits flat when places on a tabletop (with the support wings closed) - no worrying about drooping wings here. LEARNING: All Lego sets have an advantage over normal toys in that they can be taken apart and built into whatever an imagination can create. These are great for building creative skills. DURABILITY: The only real concern is the relative looseness of the support wings as described above. Additionally, the main wings have large gaps close to the hull where the TECHNIC mechanism for moving the wings pokes through. This hole is larger than it need be, and adding a white plate to the wings here greatly improves the wing stability as well as the overall look of the model. There are also some minor gaps between the hull and cockpit canopies, which can be resolved using flat white 1x4 pieces. DISPLAY: Looks great on a tabletop or shelf. Surprisingly, its size and fairly good detail allow it to look nice even next to a UCS Tie Fighter or X-Wing. Great toy with plenty of potential to be rebuilt into some fun models. Can be improved using existing parts to make it a little more structurally sound and closer to the movie model.

I loved this set for the sheer greatness of it! There are several inacuracies to the movie,But come on,its lego for goodnes'sakes! The starfighter is built well, the wings aren't as flimsy as they look. The nose is built cleverly hith an assortment of pieces. The upper cockpit folds 2 ways to seat two of the pilotsand the R2 unit. It's very fun to play with and the only setback is the font cockpit doesen't hinge. The pilots, while not movie-accurate,are cool.9\10!

Construction:
Quite easy construction. Took me about 20-30 minutes to build. Not really any especially "difficult" parts of construction, but some of the ways things work may get confusing. Minifigs: The ARC comes with 4 minifigs, 3 clone pilots, and a red astromech droid. The pilots' torso decals are really great, seem to have no problems. But the helmet decals on the other hand, aren't the best quality. If they had really good quality they would've been great, but some look smudgy, scratched out, etc. Also sometimes faded. As for the astromech droid, the decals on that turned out really welll, I find no problems with it. 2 of the pilots also had scratches, but luckily, they were hardly noticable. Although there are 3 pilots, it only comes with two blasters. ARC-170 Starfighter: The ARC is a really good ship, and is built nicely. I haven't yet seen the movie, but from pictures I've seen, I'd say it's pretty accurate. The SNOT designs used on were cool too. The cockpits are nice, but the ones on top, when the windscreen is closed, it is difficult to see the pilots, from a face on view. The engines also turned out nicely. As for the cons, the wings open very slowly, but in an interesting way. I don't really have any trouble, but once, the bombs did get stuck. It's also a bit bigger than I expected, which is good. Parts: This sets has lots of good parts. Some which include the windscreens, engines, wings/base pieces, and cockpit pieces. Also quite a bit more. One good thing is that there aren't too many "off color" pieces. The main ones are the lime 2x1 brick (but not too noticable), and some interior parts (often goldish yellow), but none are really easily viewable. Durablity: Definitely not the best durability, but better than some sets I got in the past. If dropped, parts of the wings will break. Also, if you set the ship down while the wings are open without a stand, the bottom wings will likely break, which is why I made a stand for mine. So it's a durable set, as long as you're not pretending it's a podracer. Rating: Rate: 9/10

Great for Display and Light Play,

This larger Star Wars Lego kit is relatively large with several unusual features. The set is more fragile than some Star Wars kits and for those people who like to play with their Lego kits, I suggest light play because even a relatively small impact knocks pieces off. This kit does sit very well on a flat surface and is very suitable for display.
The most unusual feature of this kit is the movable wings. To operate the wings you rotate a gear located at the back of the Star Fighter. The gear rotates a shaft with a worm gear on it, which then rotates a series of spur gears that causes an arm to contact and open the wings. The wing mechanism fascinates me so much that I have opened and closed the wings a large number of times. Between the movable wings are large fixed wings that make this Star Fighter wider than it is long. At the tip of each wing is a pair of guns that look quite ominous. Also mounted on the wings, close to the fuselage, are large engines. The front piece of the engines rotates for a turbine effect. At the back end of the Star Fighter is a gun that rotates and swings upward. This gun pivots a little too freely, however, and tends to move around as you pretend to fly the Star Fighter. There are four characters with this kit. Three of the characters are storm troopers. There are three cockpit locations for these three characters. All three of the cockpits have canopies. The back two canopies pivot upward and the panels on either side of those two canopies swing outward to allow access to the middle and back storm trooper and the R2 unit positioned between the canopies. There are "bombs" that come with the Star Fighter, but they quickly became annoying so I put them in a location where they would no longer drop. Two of the storm troopers come with hand guns. Star Wars Lego kits come in a huge array of configurations. This kit is near the middle of the price range for Star Wars Lego kits. This kit has several interesting features and has an unusual appearance that makes it a valuable part of a Star Wars Lego display. However, the wings are fun to open so taking this Star Fighter off its shelf and opening the wings and pretending like you are fighting your choice of bad guys is a lot of fun. Enjoy!

This is on of the best Star War Lego sets on the market today. It is a very nice detailed model and looks very close in ever aspect to the one in the movie. It adds a great addition to my collection of ships hanging from my bedroom ceiling. Even though the ship looks like the wings would fall apart, it is a very duradle ship.

This is one of the best Lego Star Wars sets out there and it was the second one I got. I gave it a 3 in durability because its suposed to come apart. It comes with 3 clone pilots and 1
R4-P17 droid (unless if yours is screwed up). It has 2 laser cannons on each wing, a rotatable one in the back and 2 bombs that drop when you pull the thing in the back. Have fun.

It has alot of pieces so it take a while to build. Thus making it worth your money to buy. It has a bomb port that really works. I am 12 years old and I would like to see more working features next time.
