I also like that these will sit in a book shelf, with a book attached to a pouch that holds the legos. This is nice for easy storage, and they just don't go into a big "lego bin".
I also have the Knights brickmaster. I like it because my son opens each lego set and builds the ship/castle/whatever and then what? He is not and I am not one to see it put on a shelf. I want him to enjoy his legos and use his imagination like we used to with our lego sets. He loves to take them apart once he has completed the given set of directions and do his own thing with the pieces-I love his creativity.
Well, with the Brickmaster sets, they receive about 250 pieces along with directions for taking those pieces and using them at least 6 different ways to make 6 different things. Much more longevitiy in my mind.
I would recommend the Brickmaster sets to all lego fans and I have!
My kids age was 6 (exactly as it was a birthday present).
1. make sure you give your child a tupperware for the pieces so they don't get mixed in with all his other lego.
2. hide it when your kids friends come over as they will get the pieces all mixed in with the other pieces.
3. Help your child get the lego out of the blue box. It is challenging and the first brickmaster book my son ripped the packaging.
btw..my son was obsessed with Ninjagos at the time of buying this, however the allure of this set was enough to get him to stop 'spinning' for a while (I can just see you fellow mum and dads smiling as you read this last sentence)
And you can break all the blocks down afterward and put them in the box within the book...
Its a perfect gift idea for any Lego fan/Star Wars fan...
Even if don't know about Star Wars, this book can show and tell you how to build the ships and provide info on the names and what their purpose was for.
The 2 mini-figures included can make the experience even more fun ^.^
Make sure you keep the pieces separate from other legos... or you will be digging around for pieces when they decide to make a different vehicle.
The only let down, and it's not even a big one, is the size of the vehicles. Seeing the two vehicles on the front cover, I assumed they might be big enough for it to look right with a mini-figure with them. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The AAT and Attack Cruiser will easily sit in the palm of your hand with a bit of room to spare. The other vehicles in the book, however, are designed at a decent scale. They make a mini-rig type of vehicle, and the mini-figures fit accordingly.
Other than the smaller than expected size on the two featured models, this is a great set. Just be aware that what you see may not be exactly what you think you're going to get.
