My (almost) 9-year old grandson (an expert Legos man) built this set in a few hours. Building the ship requires careful attention to detail as it is easy to make mistakes. An example would be installation of the engines: If the wing extension pistons are not fully closed (retracted) when snapping the engines in place, then the wings will not deploy properly requiring some disassembly. But, that's where the educational part comes in. One negative note: The wings are heavy and are not adequately secured to the wing roots. The wing root pins insert into two bushing pieces that do not have sufficient attachment/adhesion area to hold the heavy wings on the ship during anything more than careful play. Boooo! Would buy this set again? Yes! Advice: But, buy this set ONLY for older Legos builders more interested in the building phase than the play phase.

Of all the Lego Star Wars sets I own, this is the best by far.

Pros,
I love how the landing gear come down and the wings go up in synchronized motion. Very fun set to play with, semi-challenging to build.

Cons,
The wing-mounted missile launchers don't shoot very far. It's a bit pricey for what you get.

All in all, I think this set is worth $45, not $55. But still a must have for all LEGO Star Wars fans!

Good fun to assemble, but a bit fragile when it's together. Very clever mechanism.

My son and I had a lot of fun building this toy. He loves building with Lego's. While this one was a little more challenging, when you are done, it is worth the extra effort. It has gears so the wings fold up and down with the center piece when it goes up or down. The only reason I gave it 3 stars for durability is because it is a Lego set, so you do have to be more careful with it. I feel that it was well worth the cost. You won't be disappointed.

This topped my son's Christmas list this year. He's put together more than his fair share of Lego sets, and really wanted this one next. Typically, we leave him on his own to do all the building, and he checks in with us once in a while to show his progress. This time, however, he actually needed a little help.

As another reviewer noted, there are some details that are easy to overlook when putting this together. The place where my son hit a snag was when adding the wings. The diagrams in the manual DO indicate that the pistons are closed when adding the wings, but this fact really ought to be emphasized. Because he overlooked this detail when putting it together, he and I had about 15 minutes of backtracking to figure out exactly what went wrong.

It was a good learning experience...frustration is an important part of solving problems. I just think it's worth pointing out that this is one of the first Lego sets where he experienced that kind of frustration.

The torrent is one of lego's best sets ever! Now if your wondering, the cock pit can fit your clone pilot's(a very rare and cool minifig) sniper gun(behind the seat). The only thing I would be careful about is that this is a higher level set, I'v been doing legos for 6 years(I'm 11)and it was a friendly challenge. Includes some rare parts such as a super long axles that can come in handy for most projects. I think that a thing most people wonder when they see the box is were do you hold it, I think the best thing to do is hold the middle wing. For me the most frustrating thing is that sometimes the slide-out cock pit sometimes dosn't slide back in and you have to fiddle with it a little. The only other thing is that the flick-fire torpedoes are pretty much bombs. Over all, this is a nice set if you are a lego master pretty much.

I got this for my 7-year-old son for Christmas. He was very excited and started putting it together right away. His excitement faded when he had some trouble putting it together. With some adult help he got it built and hasn't taken it apart. He loves it! He flys it around the house and makes it interact with his other Staw Wars Lego sets. The wings move to reconfigure into different positions. And the moveable cockpit is very cool. He said next time he tries to build it it will be easier because he has seen the end result.

My son is 8 years old and really gets into Lego's. He received this LEGO set as well as 5 other sets as Christmas presents. He has already finished 3 of the sets with little to no help. However, this set has gotten him very frustrated on multiple occasions. The instructions in at least a couple places are very unclear to follow; attaching the wings and building the engines for example. Once he was able to attach the wings, he was still unable to get them to fold down properly without them falling off. There are little blue pieces at the ends of the engines that fall off all the time too. Definitely not made to play with. This LEGO set should say "display use only" on the box.

It's a great Lego Star Wars model. Wings and landing gear goes up and down as they are all connected.

I'm 10 and could put this together about 80% on my own. My mom helped with the rest. I love it and it looks really cool!
