Product Description

Platform: Nintendo Wii U

From the makers of the immensely popular LEGO The Lord of the Rings, comes LEGO The Hobbit, inspired by the first two films in The Hobbit Trilogy: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the upcoming The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, productions of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM) as well as the collection of LEGO The Hobbit constructions sets. The interactive game of LEGO The Hobbit allows gamers to play along their favorite scenes from the films and follows the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins as he is recruited by the Wizard Gandalf to aid Thorin Oakenshield and his Company of Dwarves. Bilbo leaves the comforts of the Shire on a journey through Middle-earth to help the Dwarves reclaim their lost Kingdom of Erebor within the Lonely Mountain. Along the way, he is introduced to ravenous Trolls, dangerous Orcs and, of course, Gollum and his precious Ring. Players will utilize and combine the Dwarves' unique abilities - often with hilarious results - to solve the most diverse Quests of any LEGO videogame to date.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Lego Games to Date May 1, 2014
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U
I have been a fan of the Lego games by Traveller's Tales since the first Lego Star Wars and this latest installment of the Hobbit did not disappoint. This game is based upon the two released and the one upcoming installment of the Hobbit movie and integrates dialogue directly from the movie and its actors. The graphics are the best so far, for a Nintendo console release, and multiplayer feels more fluid with the ability for one player to use the game pad for their screen and can chose not to use a split screen on the main monitor (just like in Lego Marvel for the Wii U).

What sets this game apart from the many others is an honest attempt to bring new mechanics that both fit the ethos of the film and is accessible for kids and adults. For example, often the player(s) have to directly work together to accomplish tasks to overcome the size constraints of the world around them. Also, building, mining, and forging mini games are added to give the game a subtle dwarven role playing feel. Similarly to the LOTR Lego game for the Wii, there are many side quests and things to find that takes up many, many hours of Lego brick breaking fun.

For now I would rank this title right below my personal favorite Lego Marvel. The reason you may ask? It is hard to top bounding through levels and breaking bricks with a "Hulk Smash," so my advice is to pick up both games, especially when they drop in price.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite lego wii game so far! May 13, 2014
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U|Verified Purchase
What I am really enjoying about this game:

Addition of the collection of ore and materials to build stuff. The in-game lego build started wtih the Lego movie. I still find it a bit challenging to build some of the models, but it is a fun addition.

The over world is big and interesting - similar to the Lego Lord of the rings - the overworld is expansive. LOTS to explore. I have to admit that once I finished the levels in Lego Marvel, I thought it was a grind to go back and try and find everything in the overworld.

At first it was hard to figure out who all the dwarves were since they all have different abilities, but they include an explanation when you bring up each of the characters.

When forging items with at the blacksmith, I wish I had known to use the "inner ring". Too much trouble to go back and fix this.

Bottom line, very entertaining, some nice new twists. I give it 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lego does it again! April 25, 2014
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U|Verified Purchase
Lego The Hobbit on Wii U is fantastic, all the Lego madness and humor you love, but this time in Middle Earth. The graphics are on par with the PS4 and Xbox One versions meaning this is the most beautiful Lego game I have ever played. Tons of content such as side quests and unlocking over 100+ characters. I've logged about 20 hours of play time and am only 4.6%!! Highly recommended game for fans of Tolkien and fans of Lego games in general. The only downfall to this version is that the Wii U Gamepad isn't really used for anything. Plays just fine with the Wii U Pro Controller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great game in Lego series June 2, 2014
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U|Verified Purchase
I have just completed playing Lego Hobbit had a really enjoyable time. I think this game can be enjoyed by kids as much as adults too. Very easy levels to complete tasks, beautiful graphics, very realistic and I do not have to worry about adult graphic violence scenes. I have a 7 year old that loves Lego brand games and truly enjoys it. Game is really creative and provides hours of fun challenges and tasks. Game is a bit pricey so I highly suggest if you are buying a game from Amazon get it on their special pre order before the game is released and you will receive $10 back to your account after game is release. Instead of paying $49.99 I ended up paying $39.99.

2.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Glitchy for 2p September 20, 2014
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U|Verified Purchase
I will start off by saying that I love this game, and the whole series of Lego games, but they absolutely -need- to do more quality control for two player mode. There were so many glitches in both the story mode and free play that the game was often frustrating to play. We were really paranoid about saving, because you never knew when a routine level was going to lock up the whole Wii U. When leaving or entering a cave/room, we had to make sure the other person wasn't doing something similar or the game would completely stop working. I don't think any of that is acceptable.

Other than the horrendous glitches, love everything about the game. Great story mode, love the travel-by-eagle method, the graphics look excellent, and there are a million tasks in free play mode. It took us weeks of casual playing to get to 100%. Enjoy, but be warned if you are playing in 2p mode, you are gonna have a rough time.

Wow, I love the LEGO series and was really excited that a Hobbit version was coming out, but now I am sad that it did!

It was clearly super rushed as it was so glitchy/buggy that I had to return it!

It was unplayable mutliplayer. Early on in the game you'll go through a locked door that closes behind you and locks again. If you are in multiplayer, one of the characters gets trapped behind the door. Dropping out and back in won't fix it, and neither will anything else we tried. One thing we tried was having one person play through single player and then having player two join after the door locks. The character showed up, but would only run up into the wall over and over again. Couldn't move him at all. And then there started a high-pitched noise randomly that was in the game. The part that got so buggy wasn't even very far -- within the first 10-15 minutes!

I don't know if it is as buggy only playing single player, but I know for sure, if you plan to play in co-op mode, DO NOT BUY!
