5.0 out of 5 stars Just compair - you will see this is a great laptop
I am jazzed about this machine. For the price point, you can't go wrong. I shopped HP, Compaq, Gateway, Toshiba and Dell before picking this laptop. As a former network administrator, I didn't think I could afford a ThinkPad/Lenovo. I was always pleased with these machines when I bought them for my company, but they were always so expensive - even on an IT budget. This...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Cheap build and poor tech support
The Lenovo laptop comes with lots of good basics, however the laptop looks very cheaply constructed compared to my Dell Inspiron laptop. The hinges where the screen attaches to the keyboard are the smallest I have seen in the market, being less than 1/2 inch in width and made of plastic. Only the Thinkpads have metal hinges. The hinge is where a laptop is most...

5.0 out of 5 stars Just compair - you will see this is a great laptop, June 26, 2009
This review is from: LENOVO G530, ENGLISH, PENTIUM T3400 DUAL CORE 2.16GHZ, 15.4IN WXGA GLOSSY SCREEN (Office Product)
This machine fits the bill in both features and price! Just read other reviews and you will find other laptops:

- have a problematic touchpad
- lack expansion slots
- don't have modems
- don't have enough USB ports
- don't read and write DVDs
- don't have memory card slots
- do not have finishes that are robust
- don't have microphones or web cams
- don't have enough memory to run Vista
- are not Intel processers
- are not dual core
- do not have high definition audio
- have Vista home basic

This PC has it all:

- 3 Gb of DDR2 677 MHz ram
- An Intel Dual core processor
- A modem
- High Definition audio
- A great touchpad (no glossy stuff that is unresponsive)
- An express card slot
- A built in mic and network cam
- 4 USB ports
- Wireless (802.11 b/g) and wired Ethernet connectivity
- A memory card reader
- A DVD player and writer
- A top notch display
- Headphone and mic jacks
- Vista Home Premium - not Vista Home Basic
- a 15 pin VGA monitor connector
- a really solid build (no flexing or "cracking" when you pick it up)

And the BEST - a Window's 7 upgrade for free if you buy it in the right time frame. What else do you want from a laptop purchase? Let me add that it Syncs with my Windows Mobil 5.0 phone after a Microsoft download of the 6.1 software for Vista - without a hitch. It plays DVDs flawlessly. It plays Netflix streaming video perfectly. If there was an HDMI port and Blu-Ray I would be in heaven. From a former XP Nazi, this is quite a glowing review of a Vista machine.

Be sure to check the specifications on other Lenovo laptops. Some have smaller hard drives, less memory and Vista Basic. You do not get an upgrade to Window's 7 from Vista basic.

Happy computing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Laptop for Students and People on a Budget., September 20, 2009
This review is from: LENOVO G530, ENGLISH, PENTIUM T3400 DUAL CORE 2.16GHZ, 15.4IN WXGA GLOSSY SCREEN (Office Product)
When September comes in millions of students around the world look for more than just pencils and books. I mean it is year 2009 and most students by now are tech-savvy and probably know how to operate just about any computer. Chances are they need a laptop for school. A school laptop is something that can allow a user to effectively perform tasks such as word processing, web-browsing, music and video for spare times and is speedy enough to run demanding operating systems such as Vista. Also this laptop must be adequate in size and weight for the student to carry. Oh and perhaps more important than anything is the price. If all these considered then the Lenovo 3000 G530 is the best choice. It is in other words the best bang for the buck.

Pros:
- Good performance CPU, RAM
- Cool and Quiet
- Bright Screen
- Keyboard feel is great
- Solid build, Classic look.
- Loud and clear speakers
- Price

Cons:
- Poor screen pixel density
- Average size touch-pad, Misplaced left CTRL Key
- Webcam quality is bad

Summary: If you are on a budget or if you are a student you cant go wrong with this laptop. This is the most bang for the buck laptop available in the market at the moment.

4.0 out of 5 stars good robust laptop, July 29, 2009

We needed a laptop for my daughter who is starting college in the fall. After doing some research and talking to friends and co-workers who know about such things, we decided on the Lenovo/IBM brand, and specifically the G530. This was primarily due to it's basic feature set, mechanical reliability, size, weight, & cost. We are a little leary about the Vista OS, but decided to leave it alone and see how it goes. So far, we have been very pleased with the system and it is performing well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Cheap build and poor tech support, July 30, 2009

The Lenovo laptop comes with lots of good basics, however the laptop looks very cheaply constructed compared to my Dell Inspiron laptop. The hinges where the screen attaches to the keyboard are the smallest I have seen in the market, being less than 1/2 inch in width and made of plastic. Only the Thinkpads have metal hinges. The hinge is where a laptop is most vulnerable to break and this one really looks vulnerable.

Design is very poor. The power cord adapter is right next to the DVD drive. Because of the angle of the power cord adapter, it can often block the DVD drive from opening. Most well designed laptops, have the power cord adapter on a different side from the DVD drive.

Tech support with Lenovo is not so great. Eventhough their tech support is from the United States, they really don't seem to be helpful as they refer all the problems to NOT be within the scope of the Lenovo's tech support. My Wifi card would not allow me to add my router to it because it would not let me type my password. When I called Lenovo, they said they could not help resolve this issue. Had an issue with clicking onto the network drive, Lenovo's tech support again said they could not help.
