Don't Bother,
By Hulhubber (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: LENOVO USB Port Replicator w Video - 43R8770 (Personal Computers)
Having used a x61s with ultrabay dock, I was anticipating a bit more of a solution for an x301 with SSHD. This is not a convenient way to dock; Lenovo missed the boat by not including a docking connection on the base of the PC, and a businesslike dock or port replicator.
Other reviews have addressed the problems with video resolution. If you use a larger screen monitor with this unit you are just going to have to plug the monitor directly into the PC, reducing the usefulness of the replicator. Ditto for power, so there is another cable that you'll have to attach to your laptop. Finally, there is the USB cable that connects to the replicator. So you now have 3 attachments to a VERY expensive USB hub. Save the money and just go to radio shack and get a USB 2.0 hub. You are going to get the same capabilty and avoid the frustration and dissapointment that comes with this device. C'mon Lenovo...what were you thinking??

Great accessory, low resolution,
By
This review is from: LENOVO USB Port Replicator w Video - 43R8770 (Personal Computers)
This is a good accessory, but the maximum external resolution of 1440x900 is simply not acceptable. A 20" widescreen external monitor can support a 1680x1050 resolution, so this docking connector won't even give you a higher resolution than the native resolution on the built-in screen of the T61, X300 or X301. (ie, this accessory won't support the full resolution of a 20" or larger widescreen display)
I really wish Lenovo would release a better docking solution for the X300 and X301 series, at least there are other options for the T series and X200 series. I've used the T61 docking solutions as well, and find them to be excellent.

Disappointing,
This review is from: LENOVO USB Port Replicator w Video - 43R8770 (Personal Computers)
This product is not an adequate replacement for traditional docking stations. I bought this because it was the only port replicator/docking station available for my Lenovo SL500, and am very disappointed.
First: As mentioned in other reviews, it does not seem to be able to support higher resolutions; I gave up in frustration and resorted to plugging my external 24" monitor directly into the laptop because this port replicator cannot drive 1920x1200. The port replicator's video is also slow, not sufficient for high-bandwidth applications such as full-screen video. Second: The port replicator doesn't have a power button for the laptop, so you have to use the laptop's power button. This is annoying if you like to keep your laptop closed while it's docked. Third: It doesn't supply power to the laptop. So you need to connect the laptop to its own power supply. That may seem like a minor annoyance, but one of the features of port replicators IMHO is that there's only one connection point, so you can quickly hook up a laptop. I had to buy an extra laptop power supply to keep plugged in near my port replicator because it's a hassle to always plug/unplug it from the wall when connect/disconnect from the port replicator. The only advantage of this port replicator is that it would allow you to use more than one external monitor with your laptop.
