5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good., February 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LEXMARK X364DN MFP MONO P/S/C/F FB ADF ENET USB 1200DPI 128MB 33PPM (Office Product)
This multifunction printer does all that it promises quickly, quietly, and relatively simply. In setting up some of the logging and network (especially scan-to-email) parameters, I found it slightly more helpful to work from Lexmark's Markvision client/server software (downloadable from Lexmark along with a printer-specific plug-in that makes all of the 364dn's features accessible) than from the printer's built-in web page. The big question is durability; how long will the duplex and paper-feeder mechanics hold up? At least for now, the printer is great!

Purchasing from Amazon was efficient and cheap == thanks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent multifunction printer but not for 64-bit linux, May 4, 2010

I have owned this printer for a little over a week and would give it 5 stars *except* for the scanner drivers.

First the good: Setup was fast and pretty easy (like most other printers these days it has a web interface allowing you to change parameters). I have it hooked up to one machine via USB and it is also on the network. It is fast to print, fast to copy, fast to scan. If you don't need faxing, you can go with the less expensive but otherwise identical x363.

The bad: Lexmark provides no 64-bit linux scanner drivers, period. This is not revealed anywhere, and I had even gone to the trouble of checking out the scanning manual available at the excellent Lexmark web site. A general lack of scanner drivers is a common state of affairs in the Linux world, but given the explicit support for linux for this printer (one of the reasons I bought it) I assumed wrongly that the scanner drivers would be available in both 32 and 64-bit. Lexmark technical support responded within 24 hours, as promised, but the response was useless and I never thought they understood my question (when would 64-bit drivers be available). There are 32-bit scanner drivers. They're a little clunky, but scanning does work, e.g. via xsane.

On the other hand, the Linux printing support (via cups), is excellent.

UPDATE: As of mid 2011, there is now a 64-bit linux scan driver, and, while clumsy, it works! To find it, google "network-scan-linux-glibc2-x86_64.deb". Because of this I've raised my rating to 4 stars.

This printer churns out pages in laser-sharp quality, scans quickly to a usb drive, copies quickly, scans and prints double-sided and easily works with both Macs and PCs over the ethernet network (although I did not try scanning over the network, so that may or may not work. I also don't use the fax feature because we have a dedicated machine for those increasingly rare times when someone uses a fax).

We've used this in our office for about a year, and so far I don't think the paper has jammed once. It's just a reliable performer that you don't need to think about.

The only problem I've had is setting up the email client for the printer. Supposedly, you should be able to email scans, but it won't connect with our email server.
