5.0 out of 5 stars A VERY IMPRESSIVE DEHYDRATOR!, April 29, 2006
This review is from: L?Equip Dehydrator
The L/Equip Model 528 replaced my old round Mr. Coffee dehydrator. This is used primarily to make beef jerky in fairly large quantities.

My first impression was the generous size and retangular shape of the trays, of which 6 are included(the manufacturer states that it is possible to use up to 20 at one time). This allows for more pieces on each tray and no need to form the meat to fit the curvature of round trays.

The unit has an adjustable temperature setting with a range of 93 degrees to about 170 degrees. This flexibility is important in order to handle the many kinds of food that can be dried.

I put about 3 pounds of sliced meat on 4 1/2 trays at a temperature setting of 150 degrees. 7 hours later there were less than 1 1/4 pounds of perfect beef jerky (I rotated the trays midway through the drying cycle). The unit is quiet too.

Best of All - clean-up was a breeze. Each tray has a flexible lift out soft plastic insert which can be soaked in warm soapy water and then quickly sponged off. This is a far cry from the old rigid plastic trays which held bits of debris and took forever to scrub out.

Nothing is perfect! The L'Equip Dehydrator is expensive, and the owner's manual is totally inadequate because, although providing some recipies, there is no clue as to the temperature settings or desired consistancy of the finished products. It is advisable to purchase some sort of "dehydrator book", of which there are several good ones on the market.

Want a great and easy to use dehydrator? Here it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, September 11, 2006

This is my first dehydrator. I did a lot of research before purchasing and I am delighted with it. My garden is ready to harvest and I have already used the dehydrator to dry tomatoes and beans for use in soups and stews later in the year. I am planning to dry onions, assorted fruits and herbs as well. This machine is a snap to use and to clean. I especially like the temperature control setting. It is sturdy and, overall, a great choice.
