Better than average TV,
By San Jose Reviewer (San Jose, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: LG 32LH40 32-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV, Gloss Black (Electronics)
This is a better than average TV. It's much better than my last LCD TV. It has a nice matte finish for the viewing area and a glossy black border with a clear accent.
Pros * Good contrast ratio and brightness for an LCD TV. * 1080p resolution. The best you can get for HD TV. * 120Hz TruMotion minimizes blur, which you mainly notice on scrolling text on sports or news shows. * Better than average low shimmer and background noise on areas of similar colors, like the sky or walls with slightly different lighting. * Minimal digital artifacts (jaggies) for fast moving pictures, like ocean waves and car races. * Energy saving mode. * The standby and power on lights can be configured to be off when the TV is in either mode. * The TV can easily swivel on its base a few degrees either direction. * The speakers point downward instead of the front, which is good for confined spaces. * It has a screw hole in the back of the base to attach the TV to something sturdy. This helps prevents tipping when you're concerned about little kids or earthquakes. * In addition to simple standard controls for the picture calibration, you can also select expert mode, which has many configuration features, including color and tint for red, green, blue, cyan, yellow and magenta, which I've rarely seen on TVs. Most people won't care about this expert feature that I liked. * The top of the TV has a flat spot where the Wii sensor bar can rest Cons * It takes a few seconds to turn on, but it's really mesmerizing seeing the power light pulsate on. * It has no S-Video, but that shouldn't be a problem for most people because of the other available ports. Other technical features of note * 4 HDMI ports (1 on side of TV) * 0 S-Video ports * 2 Component video ports * 2 Composite video (RCA) ports (1 on side of TV) * 1 Analog RGB PC port * 1 Optical connection for surround sound. * 1 Coaxial port for digital/analog cable or antenna TV * 1 USB port on the back of the TV for photo and music playing. At least that is what the menu says.

Great 2nd TV,

This review is from: LG 32LH40 32-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV, Gloss Black (Electronics)
This is a good size for a bedroom (where we have it), den, home office, computer monitor - but would be small for a main TV. Before we purchased we had the opportunity to see this LG side-by-side with Sony's 32XBR9. Having done our research we were expecting to love the Sony. Wrong. The color is better on this LG (its 80,000:1 contrast is better than Sony's) and the LG has less artifacts with fast action scenes; both the LG and Sony are 120hz but LG's application seems to work better. Both are full 1080p. The bezel/frame is a bit shiner on the LG (Sony is more matte and nicer in my opinion), but the picture is the thing and we went with the LG. Better picture than the Sony, nice menu features, and even cheaper than the Sony!

Wish the sound was synced,
This review is from: LG 32LH40 32-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV, Gloss Black (Electronics)
This TV was great. The picture quality was perfect. I wasn't thrilled with the whole "smooth motion" setting since it made TV look like live action theater... but you can easily turn it off. My big problem was the audio wasn't synced with the picture when it played through HDMI from my cable box. The two were about a half second off each other, so it was like watching a poorly dubbed movie. If we ran the audio from the cable box to speakers, it was synced fine. Unfortunately we didn't plan on keeping this TV hooked up to our home theater. LG said they were working on a firmware update to take care of this, but with no guarantees I returned the TV. Too bad. I really liked it other than the audio problem.

Started looking for HDTVs in mid 2009 and after researching screen size I settled on 32-37' in size. Started examining models at Best Buys and Comp USAs, and the design and features of the LG really stood out. Overall the TV looks beautiful from a design standpoint. When it comes to nuts and bolts I feel it outstrips the comparably priced Samsung line or the higher priced Sony line. The contrast ratio of 70,000:1 is pretty much the highest your going to find on a 32' screen. The 1080p picture is gorgeous. The 120hz I feel is a nice bonus but not a selling feature as most media doesn't need it, but never hurts to be ahead of the curve. The HDMI ports are easily accessible, as are the rest of the inputs. The firmware works great and it's easy to program favorite channels, tune the TV, and set preferences. A great TV for a prospective HDTV adopter or experienced user.

Fantastic Monitor / TV,
By St. "Liebowitz" (NC, USA) - See all my reviews

If you're looking for a relatively affordable TV / PC monitor, you should take a hard look at this one.
I'm using this in my home office as a monitor / TV / Game/ Movie display. Hooked it up to a digital antenna and used the built in tuner to pick up local stations - most of them look absolutely beautiful. I thought the sound was pretty good too from the built in speakers, though normally I use my existing speaker set-up. With the right settings, games on the PC look fantastic. I set the picture format to Game and use "Just Scan" format to get what I think is the best looking picture. I use these same settings when working or reading documents and I really like it - though that is just my personal preference. One thing to keep in mind for this type of setup is that you need maybe 4-5 feet between you and the monitor (in my opinion) for things to look their best. I have a big desk and put a stand behind it to give me some distance. The monitor has multiple inputs (including 4 HDMI!) and also provides for connections to component and composite, etc. I've used several nice expensive monitors of various sizes in the last couple of years, and this is hands down my favorite.

I am so glad I spent a little more and got this TV. It is "all that". My only complaint is that I can not connect it to my stereo to run sound through my hi-fi speakers when we are watching a movie. Apparently this TV only connects with the latest and greatest technology. It was a mistake on LGs part not to throw an audio jack on this thing.

This is my first LCD TV, as well as my first HDTV. After extensive online review, I settled on this product. My decision was based on positive reviews of the LH40 line of LG brand TVs, as well as positive feedback regarding LG customer service.
The picture controls are extremely configurable; they range from simple modes (cinema, game, sport) to fine-tuning white/black levels at different frequencies. I chose to use CNET's test configuration (which you can find on their message boards). The picture looks great. Black levels weren't great, but not distracting. I was a bit disappointed to still see blur during pan-and-zoom camera movements given that this is a 120Hz TV, but I haven't compared enough TVs to know whether this is better or worse than average. Sound quality is what you would expect on a TV: decent midrange and highs, but no bass. Controlling closed captioning format (font, color, opacity) for digital signals was a small feature I was not expecting. The TV stand can swivel about 50 degrees right or left, which is a small but nice feature. I have no HDMI components yet. I have DVD and Wii coming in through component inputs, and a computer connected through the VGA input. There is an optical audio out on the TV that I have going to an audio receiver. No complaints about connectivity. The lack of an S-video input may bother other people. There is also a USB input for MP3 playback and picture viewing, but I haven't tried that yet. Overall, I got the TV I expected. Great picture, and great value. I would recommend to anyone.

Love the TV, great sound and a great picture. One big DRAWBACK was the lack of a HEADPHONE jack, LOTS OF HDMI AND COMPONENT jacks in/out but no AUDIO out that would allow the use of headphones. Easy 5 star if that item had been in the unit.

Mostly used with my PC. I had to go to a big screen due to my vision. I have an upgraded ATI graphics card and the picture is phenomenal. Also, go DVI from the PC to HDMI into the TV FOR THE BEST DEFINITION and make sure your card is set properly. While watching sports on a 120 Hz 32" LCD you will see things you've probably never seen in the past.
