5.0 out of 5 stars Good decision, December 2, 2007
This review is from: LG 42LC7D 42-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
This unit is in some demand, with the belated discounts, and was lucky to find one (a 70 mile commute). I agree with online comments about the 1080p/720p issues; the incoming signal is more of a determining factor than the receiving unit in terms of image quality. Conclusion: a good 720p lcd-HD tv should do extremely well. Case in point; this one! Discovery HD broadcasts are particulary stunning, and other "nature" productions (e.g. "Exploring North Carolina" on PBS HD in my area). Combined with my AV receiver/surround setup, the unit not only lights up the room in a big way (and the sleek black finish is a nice complement too), but the sound completes it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review the TV, not your cable service..., February 13, 2008
This review is from: LG 42LC7D 42-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
As a 720p HDTV, which you should clearly know you bought, it is a great television. You didn't buy 1080p, so don't expect it to be one. Also, complaining about your standard channels not looking nearly as good as your HD channels?...is that supposed to be a surprise to consumers?

People that have reviewed this television or others TVs with those types of comments are completely oblivious about the technology and probably don't know how to make the best out of it anyways. It's a shame people rate it so low because they simply don't understand how HD television broadcasts work. I'm not saying this TV is perfect, but it is good.

Currently used as my main televsion (purchased Oct. 2007), using TimeWarner HD receiver (via component video) and PS3 (via HDMI) connected.
As a simple test for HDTV quality, if you can't tell the difference between your HD broadcast and a DVD (HD broadcast should be BETTER), then the TV probably isn't worth it; and I can clearly see a difference with this television. +

Blu-Ray movies also POP with amazing color. I suggest watching 'Ocean's 13' just for the colors. It's beautiful.
Most PS3/xbox360 games are still produced in 720P, and this TV displays them wonderfully...as most HDTVs do though.

Anyways, a previous reviewer stated that everything is distorted on standard definition channels, but that's because they're using one of the many zoom views. That's a choice that you make. You either watch it with borders (like everyone else, on any other HDTV), or you use zoom which distorts the image or cuts off the edges. I suggest setting your television to "set by program" so everything looks as it should.

4/5 star. There are better TVs out there for similar cost at this point. LG did make a nice LCD with this one though. If you happen to get a nice deal - I'd suggest it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 720p TV!, April 5, 2008

This review is from: LG 42LC7D 42-Inch 720p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Great tv! takes up little space, looks great and sounds great! The brightness is amazing and the HD is awesome! I use hdmi cables for an upconverter and hd cable box.The picture quality on regular channels is better than samsung, sharp, misubishi. Analog cable is clearer but no hd capability. It has a built in hd antenna but it quit workin after a few months. Cable hd offers way more anyway.I have had a few blochy moments but overall I can't complain, I do wish I woulda spent the money and got full hd capability though. Also if your payin for heat you can turn it off, this baby gets warm! Not too bad though, better than anything philips or sony has to offer!
