Great Plasma for the Price - LG 50PS11, January 8, 2010
This review is from: LG 50PS11 50" Plasma TV - 50" - ATSC, NTSC - 16:9 - 1920 x 1080 - Dolby, Surround - HDTV - 1080p (Electronics)
Since this review is from someone who owns this TV - hopefully this will help out some folks looking for a great Plasma at a great Price...
First - Plasma and especially this one produces truer colors then any LCD - except for Sony Ultra models or Samsung High End TV's - this one is simply superior - I believe this TV originally sold for something close to $1399.00 to $1599.00 when first released in January of 2009 - It is the same exact specs as LG's THX models which go for around $1899 - $2199 - Second, The Screen looks better the farther away you watch it, about 13ft - 10 ft is pretty ideal here - My only compliant is not enough HDMI ports and no regular audio out RCA jacks - Other then that fantastic - Plasma screens don't even have the burn in issues like they used to. I was going to go for a 47" LG LCD, but could not pass up the deal on this plasma - after it was all said and done - I paid $709.00 for it lock, stock and barrel - as it was an extended black Friday sale on Saturday. Blu-Rays and regular DVD's come to life in a big way on this screen - and Colors for this TV Look 10x truer then any LCD in this price range - relatives and friends are super jealous of this TV and the deal I got!
$1099.00 - is still a great price for this TV and you should not look back - Close up of football player's and baseball players in HD look like they're in a window next to you - honest, just an amazing picture - and again, I hope this helps - Added 4-23-2010 - HD TV movies look fantastic after you take the time to dial in all the levels - Watched National Treasure 2 on USA HD channel - absolutely beautiful and ALL Sports look great!
This is another Addendum to this Review 12-16-2010 - After having this LG 50" Plasma for well over a year now - all I can say is WOW - It is still Amazing, to say the least - The picture has settled in now and the colors totally blow away and LCD for that matter - And it holds it's own quite well against LED's - Yes the Top Sony and Samsung LED's are better - but for the price point of this TV - Plasma colors are 10x richer then any LCD including - Those top of the Line Sony LCD's - Watching Blu Ray King Kong on Sony Ps3 - looks fantastic - HD Tv, as mentioned earlier also looks outstanding - What can I say - LG hit one out of the Park when they made this series - That's all folks!

Plasma is for me, February 15, 2010
This review is from: LG 50PS11 50" Plasma TV - 50" - ATSC, NTSC - 16:9 - 1920 x 1080 - Dolby, Surround - HDTV - 1080p (Electronics)
This is my 2nd HDTV. Back in 2007 I bought a 32" LG LCD TV. It was an alright TV except that I just couldn't get used to the "LCD look". I'm in my early thirty's and I suppose, I've grown up accustomed to the look of CRT TVs, where "black" is actually supposed to look "Black" and not bright grey, and colors should be deep and saturated, not bright and pastel.
I tried to get used to the LCD look, but for whatever reason I often found that after watching TV for a few hours my eyes would literally start going funny and I'd see everything blurry, in other words I found LCD very "hard on the eyes". I can't stand the way that LCD-TV manufacturers always emphasize how "bright" LCD TVs are. That's true, they are bright... TOO BRIGHT imho. They are literally blinding which is why my eyes always hurt watching them, even lowering the "brightness" setting on an LCD doesn't actually lower the brightness at all or control the backlight, it just lowers the maximum white level while keeping the black level as high as it always is; reducing contrast. LCD TV's don't need to be any brighter, the problem with LCD-TVs is that they aren't DARK enough. They can't seem to produce BLACK.
So anyhow, I was in need of a newer, bigger TV, so I decided to give Plasma a try. WHOA, what took me so long to see the light. I got this TV just in time for the Olympics last week and I've been watching the Vancouver games non-stop on this TV. Plasma is AMAZING. I like the picture much better than LCD. Finally you can set the brightness at a "reasonable" level and still have a good contrast going from BLACK up to a good level of brightness. I find that the image produced by Plasma looks more similar to a traditional CRT than LCD does. My eyes don't hurt watching Plasma. I can watch all day (and I have) and don't have the vision problems I seem to get while watching LCD.
This is the biggest TV I've ever owned, and it's full 1080p. Highly recommended.
