We have a Mitsubishi LT-46149 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with Integrated Sound Projector which is an LCD Flatscreen. When our TV downstairs -- an ancient ginormous projector TV started to fade out, we went back and forth on Plasma vs LCD. 5.0 out of 5 stars A great honest review., January 23, 2010
This review is from: LG 60PS60 60-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
I will start out saying this is an excellent tv for the price! If you are like me you have probley read tons of reviews, shopped around, looked at the sets in the stores and so on. I was able to get lucky enough to view the TV's I was considering on to purchase at the local Sears side by side. The sets were the LG60PS60, Panny TC58S1, Panny V10 & Samsung PN58B650. To be honest they all looked good! The major deal breaker was the price point, the LG is around 200 to 300 dollars cheaper than the Samsung PN58B650 and about $1k less than the Panny V10(... on line that is). I eliminated the TC58S1 from my choice since I dont think it was in the same class as the other three. The Samsung B650 & Panny V10 did have deeper blacks I agree but for the price differance not an issue at all. The stand comes mounted on this tv in which isnt to bad but if you have little ones I would recomend mounting it on the wall... never know with little hands ( get a good mount thou, the tv weighs around 125lbs or so). Hands down the set is better looking the the other's I have mentioned, it looks like a big picture frame with the solid sheet of glass that covers the front, not to mention makes it easier to clean in the future.

They say you dont have to break in the tv but I did anyhow. I found a free download to burn on a dvd disc that runs thru radom colors, I used it when I was not watching tv prior to 100hrs. By no means is the TV picture that good right out of the box, its not bad but given time (over 100hrs) and use the "wizzard" that it has its to bad at all. I did use a dvd calabration disc that I had borrowed from a friend DVE ( long story short, it takes some time to play with it) but when I was able to "dial" it in, WOW!

The sound isnt to bad, I was actually impressed with it since its from a TV but never the less I use a surround sound set up so its not an issue for me. Face it, most tv's are not good for quality sound. The connections are pretty good, it has all that you will need for a good set-up. Quick note, the photo that shows the back panel is NOT correct. The connections such as HDMI and so on are the lower right hand (if viewing from the back) and not in the middle as shown above. Not a big issue unless you are mounting this on the wall and using cables thru the wall as I did, so plan ahead.

There is only one issue I have with this set thou, its the reflection is gives out. Now I knew this prior to purchase so I cant complain about it, its "glass"! I just thought I would warn those who may not think about it. We have an open living room with large windows on one side and an open kitchen in the back that when the lights are on you can see the reflection. This is not a "knock" on the set since most plasmas will have glare not to mention anything with glass such as the new lcd/led's.

Image retention is not an issuse with this set ( at least not this one), I have the orbiter set on to take care of that. If you do have an issue thier is a white wash along with a color watch, I found that to be very helpful if needed. As I had mentioned earlier the picture wizzard isnt to bad, it does a fairly good job but to get the full beauty you should think about getting it calabrated with a DVD, it really help's! With that I dont think its ness. to spend $300 to get if done by a professional but thats just my opinion thou. Just be patiant with it, give it least 100 to 200 hours then you be amazed.

I have the LG BD390 Blu-ray player so I did not need to 60ps80 series to stream netflix ( great player by the way!) The image is fantastic, I could not be happier. Standard tv is so/so, I believe any set its going to look so/so but standard HD channels (720p broadcast) look's very good! I had a Samsung 56' DLP that this set replaced that I thought it was very good but after getting this... hands down this set overwhelms it!

My final over-view:
I feel that I have chosen the right TV. The size, the price & the picture... I am quite pleased with this TV. I have never owned a plasma tv let alone a LG TV since most of them have been Samsung ( which is a great TV as well) but now I can say I am a LG fan as well. Just a fact, side by side the Samsung B650 & Panny V10 may have a little bit better blacks but in your home you cant tell the differnace. When I say "balcks" I mean more of a balance, I do believe the LG has better color thou. I would have to say the Panny V10 was very good but for $1k more no way. I gave this set a 5 star due to the size, picture and price. I didnt want to spend more than $2k for a set since that was my budget but I also wanted a great tv, so in essance I found both! Maybe this little review may help then again maybe not but I thought I would put my 2 cents worth in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big Picture, Little $, October 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LG 60PS60 60-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
I purchased this TV for a little under $1750. No tax, free shipping, and the lowest price that I could find on the internet made this an easy decision for me. I was skeptical at first with the low price that the picture quality would live up to my expectations. I was anticipating those "blurry squares" that appear (like on my 50in) whenever I am watching sports or movies with lots of action. However, I was quite impressed. This set delivers a clear and consistent picture and for a fraction of the price of other competing brands.

My negatives are mostly minor things, but I decided to list everything I could think of to help those that are "on the fence". The one thing that I thought was a little pointless are the preset picture options such as "sports", "cinema", and so on. I (as well as my friends and family) have yet to find a setting that works better than the default. All others seem either dull or so bright that a person's face color looks unnatural.

In summary... there is very little that I do not like about this set. Aesthetically, it is a good looking TV. The screen size is ridiculously impressive, and the picture quality I would rate around an 8/10. Finally, the price is right. If you can purchase it for under $1800, I would consider it a bargain.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as bright as LCD and already starting to ghost after 6 months, December 16, 2009

We liked the Mitsubishi but my husband wanted the larger size and LCDs in a comparable size were hard to find and horrendously expensive.

Out of the box, it is a beautiful piece of electronics -- if you can call any electronics "beautiful". It is particularly good looking considering the monstrosity that we have had in our living room for so many years. It is very stable -- something we were concerned about with clumsy boys and large dogs but we have it sitting on a custom-built stand that is about 30 inches tall and it is not tippy at all.

The picture on the TV is very good. You can definitely tell the difference between Plasma and LCD -- the LCD is brighter which I like -- particularly since we have a very bright room. However, the colors on the Plasma are probably "truer". I can't really speak to the sound quality since we run both systems through a home theater system and don't use the actual "sound portion" of the TV.

While we were very happy with the TV when we first got it, many of the channels we were watching (a lot of hockey), were not broadcast in HD. As a result, there were dark edges on either side of the TV. In less than a few months time, we noticed that there were actually lines on either edge as a result of "ghosting in" of the screen. We had heard this was an issue with earlier plasmas and one of the knocks against them but after reading reviews, were under the impression that ghosting was no longer an issue. Either the reviews we read were wrong or we misunderstood because either way, it is there.

The thing that upsets me is that it wasn't a matter of YEARS for ghosting to occur... it was simply a matter months -- 3 months tops. We have worked with LG to try to troubleshoot to see if we needed to "de-gauss" or something else. Nothing. Nada. Just part of the package.

Fortunately, the ghosting lines aren't TOO noticeable from the distance that we are sitting at. However, they are disappointing, nonetheless. As a result, I will not buy another Plasma TV. In the future, we'll stick to LCD ... or who knows what will be the "hot new thing" at that point -- it had been 7 years since we bought our last TV and that was used. So I suspect we will be living with this one for sometime to come unless it up and dies on us...

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!! BEST PICTURE EVER, November 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LG 60PS60 60-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
After researching both Plasma and LCD/LED Flatscreen Televisions online AND in local stores I decided that the new generation Plasma TV would be my choice, I cannot understand why people are paying THOUSANDS more for a 240hz TV when Plasma offers 600hz minimum? With the lifespan of both TV's reaching 100,000 hrs and burn in no longer being a problem..why not Plasma?? I've only had the TV a couple of days so I cannot comment on the longevity of the product but I can say that this TV by far has the BEST picture I've seen and I've been to every local Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, Conn's and local dealers....at least 5 time each.

It doesn't give off the heat that my 32" Visio does either, very efficient. With the user friendly calibration getting it set up was a snap although I still may have it professionally calibrated sometime in December. The remote is very easy to use and understand, the stand (I dont have it mounted on the wall yet) is very sturdy and swivels making it easy to twist the screen from side to side. I have this set in my living room where there are 6 big windows, the reflection is not as bad as I thought it would be but being able to twist the set just an inch or so stops all reflection...its awesome.

The Picture...MAN!! My wife is amazed at how "3-D" the picture looks and thats on Cox cable HD broadcast not to mention blu-ray. I watched the Oregon/USC replay just to get an idea how sports would look...WOW!! (Geaux Tigers btw..LSU!)

All in all I am very pleased with the set, the seemless glass screen is beautiful and makes the set very professional when its turned off...cant say much more..for the price (I got it for $1500 on sale at Amazon with free shipping)you cannot do better..trust me and save time researching..you wont be sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Balanced HDTV for the price, December 31, 2009
This review is from: LG 60PS60 60-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
I have this unit for three months now. The design and flat glass panel look is fantastic. Being made of glass, the screen is prone to reflections and makes the unit weight about 150lbs. Don't expect the picture quality to be great or perfect out of the box. All the default settings are way off calibration, even the THX mode. THX mode is very dim, not pushing enough luminance and oversaturated in color, while all the other ones are bluntly too 'vivid'. Don't be sold on that it is THX certified, this doesn't mean it has perfect visuals.

The biggest negative factor is the screen tends to dim automatically (even with the energy saver off) during black dark scenes, it is noticable when watching and can be annoying. This is perhaps to help it from screen burn in. Screen burn in is also an issue. You can see it when leaving something stationary on for a while. It usually takes a few minutes to dissappear, but that's a downfall of plasma.

The greatest feature though is the (Expert 1 & 2)ISF calibration features to tweak the unit. Though lacking in individual Color Brightness control, it has all the other features to tweak the visuals to perfection! I used an Xrite Eye One LT colorimeter and software to calibrate the unit. Using the 20 point IRE option, you can tweak grayscale to near perfect! The Color Management System allows you to tweak the primary and secondary colors to CIE color standards. Luminance and gamma have also been adjusted nicely. Once you have it personally or professionally calibrated the picture will be stunning! This is the only way to truly watch HDTV, all other default settings are far from picture heaven.

Another missing feature was the picture in picture option. I was surprised for a screen that big not to have one. You will have to switch from one channel to another while waiting for commericials to end. The sound quality isn't made to be great...it's a TV, that provides the visuals. For sound you will need a sound system to compliment the picture.

Overall, the LG is a great value TV for it's size. Picture quality is amazing once calibrated and has plenty of options. It will be your center piece of entertainment for a long time.

This review is from: LG 60PS60 60-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
The picture is great, the look is better than I expected and well worth the price as far as I am concerned. I have a 50 inch and 42 in Panasonic that I love and this is just as good from what I can tell so far. Shipping was easy and only a day later than stated when I purchased it. I would purchase it again and I am picky... Take it for what it is worth.

I've had this unit for just over 2 months now and I absolutely love it! I use it with my HTPC and the picture quality is phenomenal. I love being able to read my email from my recliner across the room. Setup was very easy. In fact, when it was delivered, the delivery guy had instructions to remain at the house until the unit was hooked up and working so that it could be sent back with him if there were any problems and I would not have to worry about shipping it. That was a first for me with an internet purchase. Can't really comment on the audio quality as I have a separate surround sound system. The only problem now is I hate going to the bars to watch football because of their "small" screens!
