Versatile performer,
This review is from: LG DP889 8-Inch Portable DVD Player and Digital Photo Frame (Electronics)
I was in the market for a portable DVD player, but I wanted a higher resolution screen than most players offer. Of the ones available near me, only this LG model and the Sony FX820 featured a resolution of 800x480. This is far better than what you get on most portables.
The LG DP889 is a slick-looking device. It has a glossy screen, which is a fingerprint magnet, but the screen is resistant to scratches. The picture is gorgeous. One thing I don't like is that the speakers are rear-facing, but they do sound pretty good. The unit has 256MB of built-in memory, and it takes SD/MMC/MS cards, so that's pretty nice if you take it with you for viewing shots from your camera. It is lightweight at 2.1 pounds, but carrying it around can be awkward since it's a tablet-style unit. Carrying it like you normally would will put fingerprints all over the screen, but I guess that's a minor inconvenience. One nice thing (if it matters to you) is that this unit will play both NTSC and PAL DVDs. I think that's pretty rare in these players. If you can get a good deal on it, it's well worth it, but you have to know what it can and cannot do. All in all, this is a great little machine!

Suprisingly good!,
By Real Reviewer (Tewksbury, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: LG DP889 8-Inch Portable DVD Player and Digital Photo Frame (Electronics)
I actually researched so many portable dvd players online because I wanted something pretty good for watching during breaks at work. So I had my mind set on a certain player that they had at circuit city, but when I got there I was stumped on the one I supposedly wanted. A gentleman there suggested the LG DP889 model because it's a digital picture frame/ cd player/ dvd player. I have to admit it looked very nice on the outside,(it has a glass screen-so I imagine fingerprints may be a problem). Anyways I had him plug it in so I could see the picture quaility-it was great! I bought it took it home and love it the picture is awesome, but the sound isn't that loud, but with headphones (it has dual jacks)-no worries! The only thing I don't like is that the unit has to be turned off to charge it, so I get to watch about 1 whole movie plus half of the next movie before it dies. It seems like it does get the 3.5 hours battery life it claims. Even after I bought this, I'm still trying to find reviews on this model, but for some reason there are no reviews, so I was compelled to write one for the future buyer. I have to say though, for a split decision I think this player is really a great buy...it retails for $279 at LG website, but you can get it at circuit city for $169. Happy Shopping!

slick for awhile,
This review is from: LG DP889 8-Inch Portable DVD Player and Digital Photo Frame (Electronics)
when i first saw this product i was super stoked on how cool it looked and the fact that it was a dual picture frame as well and would look really slick sitting on my nightstand so i bought it.
the picture quality on this is pretty fantastic. unfortunately after 5 months the disc wouldn't spin anymore. it also started skipping and freezing up. so now it's in the trash. such a shame that it's such a cool design and so different from all the other portables out there.
